Another incident with black men getting shot by police
Valsuelm replied to Drowsy Emperor's topic in Way Off-Topic
That as well, I suppose, the video gives very little wriggle room as loosing eight shots at a guy who's running away unarmed is pretty damn hard to justify. The cop will get off with a light sentence, I am guessing, though. A relatively light sentence if he's convicted is likely. 1st hurdle: A DA that will actually prosecute cops of crimes. (most cases die here) 2nd hurdle: A jury that will convict. (juries have been known to let cops get away with the most heinous of crimes even when there's overwhelming evidence. ie: Kelly Thomas, Rodney King) 3rd hurdle: A fair judge. (This actually is probably the smallest hurdle.) Of course It's possible the cop will agree to a plea bargain, and it never goes to trial. -

Another incident with black men getting shot by police
Valsuelm replied to Drowsy Emperor's topic in Way Off-Topic
Thank goodness for a DA that isn't corrupt to the point they won't ever prosecute cops for murder, no matter how much evidence there is. -
Set it to 0m and am happy. Someone trying to make a funny decided to resurrect it. Then the naysayers that don't bother to read the thread or fail to understand the issue that exist(s/ed) in pretty much every thread on this forum jumped into say nay. Even though the issue is settled and done. This was one of two threads that got the option to turn it off in the game.

If that's true, the individual behind the accounts is a very mentally disturbed person. Also likely a paid troll. The mods likely can confirm or deny with an IP comparison check. It's doubtful the individual is smart enough to use a proxy. Good website metrics software also could confirm/deny, though I wouldn't necessarily expect mods to have access to that info, if Obsidian is even keeping track.

Can we get a modding sub-forum?

Yes, consideration based on one side's interests, sorry, human rights. Libya is fine ? A bunch of rebels get up and have the USAF and others act as their lackeys for what end ? The West doesn't seem to look down the road well at the results from their bombings (then again, assuming they want stable peaceful democratic nations) based on that and other misadventures. Am not too sure they get to wash their hands out of what comes out of a situation they helped create, after all. So what would you prefer? Either the West should not have intervened at all in Libya and when Gaddafi had won and there were tens of thousands of dead Libyans who opposed Gaddafi, there would have been that number of dead as he controlled the Libyan army, then its too late to be concerned about the humanitarian aspect and that would have been on the conscience of the world..also we would have heard the end of criticism ..." The West did nothing while tens of thousands were massacred in Misrata" Or do you prefer that the West is now responsible for being directly involved in the running of Libya once Gaddafi was defeated ? Or do you support intervention but once the ruler is removed the destiny and running of country is left to its own citizens? Because in the case of Libya there were only those three choices There were not tens of thousands of dead Libyans who opposed Gaddafi. You're just making **** up. The official propagandists who inflate numbers whenever they can don't even try and say that. The uprising against Gaddafi was actually quite small and limited to a couple areas of the nation for the most part. NATO decided to protect those areas, arm the protesters, and ultimately militarily involve themselves to make sure Gaddafi was overthrown. The result: thousands of dead that would not have been dead had NATO not gotten involved, and a nation in ruins.

Greece can suck an egg in regards to attempting to extort money from Germany. Greece would be exceptionally unwise to take money from Russia to pay the IMF. Greece would be wise to just default on the IMF. A lot of nations would be wise to do so.

I do not deserve Obama. I did not deserve Bush. I did not deserve Clinton, I do not deserve the threat of his wife creature, I do not deserve Harry Reid, I do not deserve John Boehner, I do not deserve Nancy Pelosi, I do not deserve Ruth Bader Ginsburg, I do not deserve John Roberts, I do not deserve the income tax, I do not deserve to lose friends and family to imperialist wars, I do not deserve to have people killed in my name that I wish no ill upon, I do not deserve to lose my property at gun point and rot in jail if I fail to pay the government extortionists (also known as the IRS) their 'protection' money for which I have no use, I do not deserve to be forced to purchase a commodity I have no use for (Obamacare), I do not deserve to be monitored in any way shape or form by my government or anyone else, I do not deserve to be lied to, I do not deserve to be harassed by government thug revenue collectors (also known as police) as I drive down the road bothering no one, I do not deserve.... I could go on for the rest of the month easy, possibly for the whole year..... While it can be argued that any populous as a whole gets the government they deserve, certainly a good deal of the citizens stuck under that government (whatever type it is) do not deserve that government. We are all stuck with what we get as a government, democracy isn't special in this regard. No ruler ever turned any nation into a paradise for it's people.

Hard mode is too easy.
Valsuelm replied to Mazisky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
For reference: The last time I played BG1 (along with TOSC) I used an XP cap remover. While I might have missed a few minor things here or there I explored every nook and cranny I could find, completed every quest I could find, and killed all the bad guys I could find. Upon porting my characters into BG2, I used a save game editor to adjust the XP of all of my characters to match that of what they had in my final BG save. Some of my characters gained 1 class level, most gained no levels, and none of my characters gained two class levels. For specific comparison here is the XP I had on my characters in my final BG save that was ported into BG2: TOSC XP Cap without XP cap remover - 161,000 XP Character (class) - Total XP earned in game (result when porting into BG2 and giving the XP earned without the cap): Main Character (fighter, mage, cleric) - 207,707 (69,236/class) (+1 fighter level, +1 mage level, + 1 cleric level) Imoen (thief) - 205,612 (not enough XP to level) Dynaheir (mage)- 201,504 (not enough XP to level) Minsc (ranger) - 204,374 (not enough XP to level) Jahiera (fighter, druid) - 207,638 (103,819/class) (not enough XP to level fighter, +1 druid level) Khalid (fighter) - 207,707 (not XP enough to level) This is what I would expect of PoE. BG1 character progression was designed and balanced well. Currently PoE progression happens far too quickly. Obsidian should be aiming to do at least as well as what Black Isle did in regards to character progression, hopefully better. As of patch 1.03 they're missing the mark in a big way. For all those folks who think the progression is fine. Sure, that's what easy mode is for. Normal should be scaling better, and Hard (the best equivalent of BG's normal) should be scaling at least as good as BG1. -
Yup dictatorships can be "benevolent" as you put it. Forget CNN. Just look at Gaddafi and pre-war socialist Libya. It had the highest standard in North Africa, even a lot higher than that of some eastern European countries like Serbia or Bulgaria. Free healthcare and education and all that. I wish people would stop saying things like " Libya was a great example of a stable economy and government " Gaddafi was a brutal dictator who never had a free and fair election in 40 years, he enriched his own tribe only and looted his countries coffers when it suited him. You cannot say someone is a legitimate ruler of a country if he uses the army and police to stay in power..its a contradiction. If things were so great in Libya why did large parts of his country want political and social change when the Arab Spring started ? But General. Libya was a great example of a stable economy and government. Whether you like that government or not is besides the point. But that's the point you guys keep conveniently missing, there was a massive uprising against the Gaddafi government by his own people. I'll repeat the point " an uprising by his own people " The same thing happened throughout many Arab countries because people were tired of being ruled by families and dictators. They wanted a better and more equal society and frankly they deserve it. This was known as the Arab Spring and was a homegrown process of social unrest driven primarily by people within there own countries Don't try to dismiss the fact that people are capable of wanting a better life for themselves without the West telling them that Vals, it comes across as arrogant No Bruce. It was a western backed coup. Same thing that happened in Egypt, Syria, and that has been attempted in other nations, such as Iran. Yemen is in a similar boat but things are a bit murkier there. In none of these places are the people better off overall than they were prior to these coups. In Syria and Libya in particular the general quality of life has tanked. This is true also in Iraq, however that wasn't so much a coup as it was an overt invasion. This discussion has been had before and numerous people have refuted your claims again and again, as well as pointed out some of the realities of the situations again and again. Your desperate cling to the propaganda doesn't make it any more true, or the realities of the situations any less false.

Suggestion for next game - Supernatural themed RPG or MMO.
Valsuelm replied to Lendrick's topic in Obsidian General
Na. The comedy RPG has been done, and done well a couple of times. The original Ghostbuster movie is awesome, but the franchise has been beat to death. Even it wasn't beat to death the Ghostbuster universe is not a good place for a well told spooky supernatural RPG. There has yet to be a well done spooky/horror/supernatural RPG. -

Suggestion for next game - Supernatural themed RPG or MMO.
Valsuelm replied to Lendrick's topic in Obsidian General
In all of my RPGing, be it PnP, console, or cRPG, the most fun I ever had playing an RPG game was when some buddies and I played Palladium's Beyond the Supernatural (1st edition). If done right, that is one hell of an awesome setting, and a setting that I've never seen brought to life very well on a console or computer. Very good storytelling is essential. Obsidian does have the best storytellers in the business these days. -
...Not really? I'm saying a classless system would perform better. But currently that is unfeasible due to the moral crisis induced by capitalism. It's unfeasible for a variety reasons, capitalism being quite a small one. Capitalism is generally just a scapegoat, or serves to be the 'bad guy' for those who haven't thought things through, or just don't realize quite a bit. In a nutshell capitalism isn't a problem in and of itself (it's also impossible to get rid of as there will always be people who participate in it no matter if it's legal or not), it's human nature that can make things ugly in a society that has an economy largely based on capitalism (which I would argue is not at all how the west is currently set up despite all the propaganda that it is) or any other form of economy. It is impossible to have a classless society where there is a government, no matter what kind of government it is, as a government itself necessitates a ruling class. This is one of the realizations at the center of all anarchist thought. If you really want classless, some form of anarchy is your only option. Anarchy of course, has problems of it's own. The nature of humans will always lead to a society with classes when society is being looked at on a large scale. To put a very complex thing very simply there will always be people who wish to be lead, who look up to others, and there will always be people who wish to lead (their motives for doing so can vary quite a bit) or naturally do so. Couple that with the fact that there will always be people who lie, intentionally or even unintentionally (they're just deluded or grossly misunderstand situation X), and you will always end up with situations where there are classes. There are many other aspects of humanity that also will always lead to a society with classes. Humanity is quite complex. There is no simple answer for a utopia, there is no complex answer for a utopia. Are some societal structures more apt to hard wire classes into being? Sure. But at the end of the day, classes will sprout up in all large scale societal structures. About the only thing that could theoretically ever prevent it would be if every single human on the face of the planet was awake to all that's going on around them, understood it all, was always honest, and every single human on the planet wasn't selfish, psychopathic, sociopathic, etc.. I wouldn't hold your breathe for this to ever happen.
