Well, they've found a publisher now, so no need for our money I guess. Also I consider not backing another Obsidian game not because I believe PoE will be bad (I believe it'll be great) but because a) they said no publishers and then they squizzed one along the way and b) they got 4x their money, got paid for their hard work without spending a dime by their own and now they sell this game at a standard retail price which is unethical imo (it should be at least half the price).

What I liked about first KotoR was that it allowed me to actually role play. I didn't care about light or dark side and the game allowed me to lie or avoid straight answer in all instances that required me to choose a side. I was out for revenge - to kill everyone that betrayed me, but I was not heartless. I would help those in need, but only if they were not complete beggars and I was expecting at least a small reward for my work. I would kill everyone that treatened me, my team or my goal outright without any hessitation, but I could never crush those that have no way of fighting back (impossible odds - plague victics in first planet). In the end - I destroyed Bastila and cut Maliks head off with no mercy. Thanks for the medal republic, see you in dark space. Ended up with neutral alignment. My favorite companions were HK and Binto. Good times. I loved the game when I first palyed it, but the problems is in the universe's stracture. You know for sure, it is de facto, that a Jedi is a true good person and a sith is a true evil person. There is no inbetweens. When the game gave you some doubts about the actions of the jedis, if you are familiar with the universe, you knew at the end they meant only pure good and nothing else - all is sith treachery. And this is a bit dissapointing when you are over 16 and you want to play a deep role playing game. Even more dissapointing when the game "promises" you intrigue and gray zones (seems that it's trying to differenciate from the standards of the Star Wars universe) and you find out at the end that a jedi was what you expected from jedi to be and a sith was just a sith (true good VS true evil). I know we're going off-topic but I wanted to say this

This is true, but i meant 2d games. All title you mentioned are 3d. Then, yes, it is the best. Though there are not many 2D isometric games now... Shadowrun the only one I can think of... Oh, and Serpent in the Staglands. Also, though the game is 2D, it is made with a 3D Engine and the models are fully 3D. In any case the game sure looks beatiful and up to date graphically

Seriously, Obsidian?
Sedrefilos replied to Dark_Ansem's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
So modders won't be able to mod that much... why is this an outrage even to modders? -
Well, to be fair, there are many beautiful isometric games. Actually, almost every isometric game has beautiful graphics: Divinity: Original Sin, DOTA2, Heros Of Might and Magic 6, Civilization V, Endless Legend, Diablo 3, Path of Exile, Grey Goo, XCOM and so on. Each with its own style and aesthetics.

They get a publisher, not extra money. -
Darker nights
Sedrefilos replied to Mazisky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well, at least that'll provide some reason for the (presumably) very fast change between day and night. Up here in the north dusk and dawn can last a very long time, so day and night sort of creep up on you, at least in summer. In contrast, visiting countries to the south I get the impression that the sun can be high up in the sky, and if I sneeze it may have set before my eyes open again. So sort of like the Baldur's Gate games, where there's this cutscene and now the day/night cycle has switched. Now that you mentioned... It would be cool if games that took place in north regions of their world (like Skyrim for example) had similar day/night cycles to our world. Although that would assume the game takes place in a particular season so it would be either longer days or longer nights... hmmm don't know... btw, although I live in the Mediterranean and day/night hours are relatively equal throughout the year, I'd perefere an equator like day/night cycle where day and night are 12 hours each. Or at least the summer-time day/night of my region to be the whole year long - I hate it in winter when the sun sets around 17:30 -
The "old" goes to the style. Basically not old but old-school. Other than that, of course it is modern; it runs in high resolutions and uses a new 3d graphics engine. But the style of graphics is done the old way. The IE way. I replayed BG2 last summer and graphics was not my problem (apart from the ugly character models - which I found bad even back then - ); my problem was mostly the same things they were back then: chaotic char sheet and rules (if you're unfamiliar with D&D 2,5 rules), boring non-spellcasting classes and annoying (at -many- times) real-time - though turn-based combat.

Hand of Fate, Darkest Dungeon early access, Civilization V and Hearthstone. All these games are mostly "gamey" and not story-based, so I can play a bit of each. Like 1 hour one, one hour the other etc. I tried to play Dragon Age Inquisition, but it won't run on my dual core so I have to wait for an upgrade (no money right now). Oh, I installed Jade Empire to check out (missed it back then), though it didn't hook me - fantasy oriental theme not my style I guess.

The game takes place in the equator, so no extremes -
Great pics. This place looks awesome. Actually almost every place I've seen so far looks awesome. And ofcourse couldn't care less about architectural "errors"

No; there is no early access anyway. Only a closed beta for those who pleged over a specific ammount of money via kickstarter. The beta takes place in a mid-game place, has a village and I believe two areas with a couple of dungeons. No critical path quests included, so it is spoiler-free. I believe there is a way you can access the beta by buying it, but I'm not sure. A beta tester might give you a better answer to that. Or to everything else actually

Similarities between older RPGs and the new ones
Sedrefilos replied to barakav's topic in Computer and Console
Just as olg rpgs were inspired, plot-wise, by movies, books, history etc. Or maybe it is these things that inspire the new rpgs too and they're not necessary inpired by old games. -
Some people just can't get over, even now, that this is not IWD with better graphics... what can one say? And yes, all of the OP's points are subjective. That's why one should play the entire game from start to finish and then see if there is anything amiss. For example, I don't care about ammunition. Maybe some limited ammunition types on top of the infinite generic ammunition? Don't know. Maybe it won't matter after all. Maybe it won't add anything special to the overall experience. Again, who knows yet?

Chants for the Chanter - Lack of Sound Effects
Sedrefilos replied to Havelok's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Although I loved the incantations of spellcasting in BG2 and IWD and I'd really love to see stuff like this in Pillars, I don't want to be implemented if the team doesen't feel they've made it right. Also, the combat is so fast I don't even know if there is enough time to chant untill the spell is cast! Unless the voiced are "ho!" or "ungh!" or something like that that I wouldn't like to hear Also, about Grotesque's 2nd video of BG1 incantations... I haven't played BG1 and had no idea the incantations were different that of those in later IE games. Man, those BG1 incantation sound so... 80's cheesy! Don't liked them at all -
Who do you expect to bring along on your first play through?
Sedrefilos replied to wanderon's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I'll bring along a nice coffee. Aaahhh... the flavour... -
I believe the only thing positive about the OP video is that someone like Joe, who is mostly a AAA guy, found Darkest Dungeon and PoE great games, despite their non-blockbustery look. The mainstream-ish success of other "low" budget games like Divinity: Original Sin or Wasteland 2 or the many indie platform games shows that people who play games are not just "the knowing what's great/art" elite and the "mindless" FPS bros. This goes for all forms of entertainment - Movies, theater, music, board games, sports etc. People might like a mix of everything. So, ok Joe saw a game and liked it; who cares? I mean ok, Paradox (now, since Obsidian made them their publishers) might be interested, because some of Joe's "minions" might check the game. They'll make money out of it, so it makes sense. To the rest of us... don't know... I couldn't care enough. Do you believe more games like this will be made because Joe said he liked PoE? I don't believe so. Companies start to make games like these because people from the development side (like Schaffer, Fargo, Solomon, Almost Human games etc) said "ok, I want to make again games like the 90's in a modern way. Who's in?" or just took the risk to make them and they succeeded. People liked these games because they were good games. Nothing more, nothing less. The rest is celebritism and people over-exaggerating/acting over trivial things - like video games.

They don't have to be realistic. They have to make sense. If a character does something in a fantastic setting, I need to understand why and how they're doing so. Weather it a descision or the use of magic. If you have men to be superior to women in your fantastic setting because this was how it used to be in real world middle ages, this makes no sense whatsoever.
