  1. Not the profit, the sales. If it sells much, we'll have more games, sure. The profit of this game is guaranteed because no money is spent by Obsidian in it.
  2. Never said those other games were not expensive. Though, Blackguards was not crowd-funded (that means someone put their own money in it) and D:OS was partialy crowd-funded. Anyway that was mostly a complain about this game's prize since it is 100% crowd funded, meaning OE paid 0 $ from their pockets to develop it and Paradox will gain money from the sells of a game they didn't also put a dime in. These for me are good enough reasons that the game should be of much lower price than 40$. And to point something else out, selling a game so high when it cost you nothing, is unethical.
  3. Most kickstarter games aren't nearly this ambitious or require this much development time either. Obsidian isn't a charity and neither is Paradox so they should probably sell it for whatever they think they can maximize the most revenue. Let plebs pick it up on a Steam sale if you're so worried about it. Development time is in the games budget that is already paid by the KS campaign. I didn't say they should give the game for free, I said it's too expensive. Like AAA budget games expensive. I already bought my copy cheaper but only because I backed the game. Others didn't and will think it twice before paying for a 2D game the same ammount of money they'd pay for a blockbuster. Also, ambition is not included in the budget. It is something we recognized and backed them for it.
  4. Starting by lowering the price of the game at least 20$. This is an already paid game. It's price is very high compared to other kickstarter projects.
  5. Nontheless, I'd like to watch it if you get the time and appetite to record it. Enjoyed the other 5 a lot.
  6. No, it's not. But it would be better than engagement if it did and IMO it would be an evolution to the IE style. Evolution is good. (IMO) Careful what you state as evolution in these forums I liked your proposition btw
  7. One enters the thread to read about things people are excited about this game and istead finds posts about the writing quality of Baldur's Gate 1. Maybe this conversation is to be continued in another forum, like 1 BG1 forum, or maybe start a personal conversation? Because, you know... it's off-topic and fills up the thread with arguements people are not interested in since this in not a BG forum.
  8. I don't play the beta, so I can't have an personal experience/opinion about the subject, but I read the posts in the forums and watch videos reagrding the combat subject because I'm interested in it (not as much as other aspects of the game, but I am nontheless). I watched all Sensuki's combat videos about exploitations with engagement and other combat mechanics and I've also watched the recent Shevek's relaxed playthrough videos. The subject is argued and argued and argued some more to the point it's exausted and there's no need for further arguing until next build. Of course, the real arguments over the subject are very few in this 13 pages of posts and most people just try to shove their "right" playstyle into other people's faces. Like this kiting subject for instance. There is no "right" and "wrong" way of playing a single-player game. Get over it. If you don't like a certain playstyle, don't do it. Unless the game doesen't allow you to play some other way, there is no reason to force yourself into a playstyle because it seems the easy way to win a combat. I never kite, for instance, because I don't like kiting. That simple. The discussion should be about mechanics and not playstyles. This is from a backer that doesn't play the beta but wants to be informed about the game's mechanics (and doesn't want to need to search through 13 pages of posts to find the important parts ).
  9. The "Blitz" mode of Blood Bowl wasn't that succesfull. That's why it isn't implemented in Blood Bowl 2. I never used it after I tried it once or twice and most playthrough vids I've seen was in classic mode.
  10. Obsidian is known for great stories and even greater characters/writing and mediocre/just good gameplay. This is common in all of their games, except NWN2 vanilla wich had super streotypical characters (like the first attempt of a 13 year old DM). PoE seems to be at the same standards right now (a bit better in terms of roleplay though). Let's hope it'll be the (for the better) exception in gameplay like NWN2 was (for worst) the exception in characters. (Edit: Having watched Shevek's playthrough, I think I'll have great time with the game )
  11. And I'd like one more option: prone and pulling forward with the tongue. That's never been made before. It'll be original
  12. nice stuff for us "no-betaers". I prefere the relaxed, informative tone that the loud, "funny" tone too. Thnx Shevek.
  13. Crawling?
  14. They showed some early spelcasting effects at some time... before several months or a year, not shure, where the casters chanted like the IE games, so we can assume they're in, just not yet implemented in the beta. Oh, here I found them:
  15. most interesting part of the update actually this has gotten my hopes up - In the first village, you can decide that you don't want to bother with all this adventuring malarky and just settle down as a farmer. ...then some other hero saves the realm and you live happily ever after That adventure ends by that hero messing up with your farming life somehow, forcing you to become an adventurer again (maybe you need to kill him/her!); This is how the expansion starts, if you import your farmer hero
  16. A) Scope is not a strong point of the IE games. There are many rpgs with a larger scope. B) Story is not a strong point of the IE games. Planescape Torment is the only IE game with a strong story. IWD1/IWD2 had bare minimum stories, and the story of BG1/BG2 was cliche and had serious lore inconsistencies. C) Character progression is not a strong point of the IE games. In IWD1/IWD2 there is no character progression since all the party members are player generated. In BG1 there basically is none. In BG2 there is a small amount, but still nothing impressive. Torment is maybe the only one with decent character progression. D) The IE games were never great in this regard either. In BG1 you are often only given 1 of 3 choices; all of which have the same result. The game literally opens up with a narrator telling you how you feel. This happens more than once. In BG2 it's better, but not by much. IWD1/IWD2 aren't very good for this either as the game is too linear to allow any real choice. Finally; Torment doesn't even let you choose your race, past, or even appearance. Not much good for role-playing. You are the nameless one; no role-play allowed. Not to mention there is only 1 ending for these games except BG2 (minor exception for Torment as well, but both endings are extremely similar). E) Party based. Well, yeah. That is one of the strengths of the IE games. Too bad poe won't be great in this area since the classes play the same outside of combat, and you can't even multi-class making your options pretty limited. Every IE game seperately loses somewhere because it focuses somewhere else; true. But PoE is supposed to be a mix of all good aspects from each IE game (+ some new interesting things) At this point, combat seems to be the less done right of all good aspects of the IE games (for me combat was just good back then, but now seems way outdated). Of course I don't play the beta, but it seems common among testers that it needs work. If Obsidian manages to nail all the other aspects, I could do with a not-so-great combat after all.
  17. But how will I know whether I've experienced the full story line? It won't be that crypric I guess. Sawyer said the dev "decided" to end the game early on, so I guess you'll know you can continue to the standard finale. And, of course, if you're curious, you can save, finish it there to see what happens, then load and move on.
  18. Great news. I Like the things the team consider important to make the game better and don't mind to implement things that were not ( ) in IE games to improve the experience and bring the game to modern standards. "Really BIG game" makes me also supper happy (early alternate ending? That's awsome!)
  19. I liked the combat style (real time with pause) but that wasn't what hooked me in those games. It was the atmosphere and the stories, the characters and the reaction/interaction (mostly in BG2). Obsidian is really good when it comes to roleplay and this is the part of this game that I'm most excited for. The roleplay. I believe it'll take it one step forward. Other features are good too, but this is the most important for me. So I'm mostly with you, with the exception that real time + pause combat worked well for me back then (though I was not a teenager ).
  20. What's so bad about playing Mass Effect? Is this elitism I notice here? I heard DA:I is finally released, so go play it and stop polluting these forums. So I pollute the forums because I say my oppinion about a subject open for discussion? OK whatever you say. Like one can't enjoy BG2 and Mass Effect both for what they are. If you can't do that, ok not other peoples problem and most important: THIS ISN'T MAKING YOU BETTER/SUPERIOR that others. Anyway, the subject is the loot system, I only quoted Sensuki's post because he implied that the opinion of people who play games he doesen't like has less value. I said what I had to say about looting; there is not much to discuss anyway, so I'm leaving the thread for you to purify it.
  21. What's so bad about playing Mass Effect? Is this elitism I notice here?
  22. Dropping usless stuff from enemies is crappy. You kill hordes of goblins and get the same useless staff all the time. What's the purpose? Just to be "realistic" and "immersive"? No, I didn't like that much in IE (I liked it at start, but after a wile it became annoying). Have some basic equipment for me to loot at early areas in racks or crates or whatever. Enemies should drop only useful stuff, like gold, mats or special items. So, no, I wouldn't like the IE loot style back.
  23. Some people get too upset over unimportant things, like video games and their mechanics. Calling lame and pathetic someone who has just expressed their opinion about somethig so trivia as the mechanics of a video game, shows who the lame and pathetic really are. You can say "hey, I don't like your ideas because a-b-c". Or, "your ideas won't work because this and that". But calling Sensuki lame and pathetic because he didn't like that game's system... man... Yesterday was the annual anniversary of the rise up of the students of the polytechnical school against the dictatorship in 1974, here in Greece. Every year, students march from the polytechnical school to the parliament and then to the american embassy this day. Last night the police brutally attacked them and chased them unprovoked. Although the news showed that clearly in their videos, many of the journalists talked the other way around, thus stigmatizing the students to a large portion of viewers. THOSE people are lame and pathetic for saying things that may seriously affect other peoples lives and not one guy saying why he doesen't like the mechanics of a game that has clearly only to do with his and his alone experience of playing a game.
  24. I guess we'll have two versions of the game when it comes out: a) Obsidian's Pillars Of Eternity b) Sensuki's Mod Pillars of Eternity So... everyone can pick their favorite and enjoy
