I've only ever bought crystals and even in KOTOR I only bought upgrade items (like beam splitters). Not much of a shopper.. The randomness dosnt make a huge difference to the gameplay. The weapon catagories are much wider in KOTOR than in say D&D (where random items can cause problems). You might not get the "best stuff" every game, but you dont need it anyway and it's just a nice suprise to loot something and find a Nomi's robes or whatever especially when you are playing the game for the fourth time.

combat - too easy? >>>POSSIBLE SPOILERS<<<
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to stoo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
They will if you give them a chance. Sentinels are immune to most of what they try which could explain why you didnt see any force use. Or it could just be you killed them very quickly :D -
I need some template guidance
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Eline's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Con is only useful as the base number for implants so you need 18. Int only applies your base int for skills so you cant modify that either (although it works for the normal modifiers). This is what I did on one build. Start with 14 con and 14 int. other stats are upto you the others are all easily modified especially by a certain crystal. My consular with 8 str didnt have a lot of trouble in general though a certain V gave her a run for her money. level 4 int 15 level 8 int 16 level 12 con 15 level 16 con 16 (you should just be on the first planet here) level 20 con 17 level 24 con 18 which about when the 18 con implants become common. Sentinel starting class and take skills demolitions as a class feat then you can disarm all those mines in Peragus and open the locked doors and containers. I didnt put any points at all in stealth, there are a couple of points where stealth leads to something but its not a point where you will be solo. Take watchman as prestige if you want lots more skill points. If anything you end up with too many skill points with this build and with the addition of skills implants and various equipment (googles, belts, gloves etc) aside from the stealth crafting tree there isnt anything you cant make by your third planet. -
I know it's not funny for you. But I those screenies really made me laugh.

Review/Rant/Hopes for the future
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to chibijulian's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Actually if you lock sabers the strongest will win the lock.Watch the Luke/Vader fight in EP V to see how strength works with a lightsaber. Strength helps in pushing weapons out of the way , either other sabers or cortosis blades. Armour presumably too has cortosis weave or it would be pretty pointless stuff. So with str you are pushing through the armour and with dex you are hiting a spot where there isnt any, or a weaker joint. The biggest difference is that in the movies if the thing hits you your HURT and it's all the fancy stuff that leads to that point. Where as in a game you can hit people a lot and they wont instantly fall over. Movie fights are played for Drama and thrills not really any sort of realism involved. Christopher Lee is however a VERY good swordsman and you can see that when his character fights just in how he carries himself. -
Kreia Levelling / The final duel
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Hannigaholic's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Until she open the fight landing a kill on you before you can even put up force immunity. happened just 1 time but, ewwww, no way to defend and to do anything. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Master energy lasts long enough to still be up after dialogue It puts a serious dent in energy damage. Plus having -30% energy modifier dosnt hurt. I've been killed in the second wave just a load of numbers out of nowhere but never by her the first time. I've always rather liked the sentinel though and 3 out of 4 of my characters had it as the base class -
You have to collect 3 parts. The parts are pretty hard to miss but there are quick ways and slow ways to get them. One of the NPC's will talk to you about it and explain it. Probably but I dont know it. No you cant use crafted parts to construct one.

Kreia Levelling / The final duel
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Hannigaholic's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Combat implants are handy. Unless your a sentinel of course then you just laugh and hack her to bits. It's reasuring to know that she can be mean though. -

Darth Nihilus = The Exile !?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to glasgoo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It would depend if you enjoyed it or not. If you can maintain your detachment while fighting then you wont fall it's not like Malachor is a planet with a populace. If the exile had fallen then I doubt they would have turned their back on war, they would seek out conflict instead. Someone who had fallen would have no need to cut themselves off from the echoing screams of the dying, they would revel in it. I think thats part of what Kreia was trying to find out. The whole Nihilus being a part of the exile would probably be familiar to anyone who played PST. It's quite possible that the writing started that way. There are some hints that Sion and the character know each other and have a history. But I dont think that was the final intent. I'm sure a lot of people were putting the clues together and coming up with a rewritten PST plot. -
Where do the "Darth" names come from?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to slowpoke's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Revan and Malak didnt change their names where as most of the Darths seem to take on a new name which represents the new persona. -
What we REALLY need in KOTOR3
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Matt7895's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Most of my second game was spent trying to influence Hanhar enough to awaken him. He would have been seriously scary (like he wasnt already). -
I have to admit I was wondering how you would view the end of the game. Glad it didnt spoil things for you. Point 3 does makes sense. Point 5 I dont think it was the knowing that was important. It was one of those "from a certain point of view things" Not sure why they kept 2 and under the circumstances it probably would have been better cut. 1. Annoyed me too I like to veg out and enjoy but I'm seriously spoiled by those JRPGs and their 15-20 minute sequences.

Things that made me really smile
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to ladymurasaki's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The line about "Not charging up her cargo ramp". I almost spat my drink out in disbelief. The mouthy merc on Dantooine that you can force pursude to give you his creds, his weapon and never speak to you again. HK with pacifier installed and his views on love. And the bit where HK is giving his views on his former companions. -

Demolitions skill in item creation
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Jellybelly's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It's useful for the PC especially if you make it a class skill at generation. It means you can disarm all those mines and get extra XP and things to break down/sell. It's not essential however since you can blow mines with destroy droid and your companions will have the skill for crafting purposes. -
Changed Endgame, Droid Planet Explanations
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Trom's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Hardcore is a game that only appeals to "gamers" like PST and FO would be considered hardcore by most people. While you make the people who frequent boards like these happy with such titles, the public in general ignore them and they never sell in large ammounts. It's kind of like the RPG version of the most accurate sim games (NOT the SIMS) only people with a big interest will be buying them. And what makes them interesting to that crowd is what alienates your casual buyer. Bioware kind of walks the tightrope between the two. -
There are not many lose ends in KOTOR II unless you miss tying them up (which you can easily do). It's really that simple. KOTOR II dosnt hand you the plot on a plate and illuminate it with a neon sign like KOTOR does. As for the end there isnt a huge ammount of difference. The end of both games were a slog through uninteresting and at that point unchallenging foes till you meet the apprentice and then the master. KOTOR was good but once you knew the twist(which I figured out around planet II then had no choice to play ignorant till the game caught up) that was it as far as I was concerned no motivation to ever play the game again. I've played KOTOR II 4 times and now my wife has it , so I know which has given us the best value for money.

It might have proved it to you. But it's hardly a universal truth that is reflected by wide term sales.

ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Dranoel's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Thats why you have a stationary AI, it's intended for use around mines. If there wasnt one I would share you pain. But not knowing what the AI states do is really something you have to take responsibility for Obsidian can only provide the "tools".
