"D&D" or "Starwars" doesn't automatically mean "great game", as you can see with PORII, Demonstone or some crappy SW games. In the end it's not that different to a developer to use a license or not, the developer still must create outstanding content in all areas possible, and that is what really counts. Yup. But again, people refer a KOTOR or BG not to Star Wars and D&D respectively, but Bioware. So I don't really see a problem with JE either. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> POR II still sold scads on the name despite being a piece of crap if was just a piece of crap with no D&D name, different story I think. Blizzard is really the only company that I can think of (outside of Japan) that made a huge success on their own material. Thats because its the abreviated title. Pointless refering to them as AD&D and SW as no one would have a clue which one you meant.. Dont get me wrong I think JE looks fantastic but it dosnt have any big name backing it up and it's really not generating the wide term buzz that the named games did. DA is even more of a risk in a way. I'm overjoyed they are dumping the diablo gameplay of NwN but stacked up against a D&D game, I wouldnt bet money on DA coming out on top.

Why is the Party AI so rubbish?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Dranoel's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Me either because that would have been quite handy to have It was kind of funny when they ran all over the place and you just saw XP scrolling up the screen. Less funny when they ran off and died though. -
Sion is a scene of explicit maiming/torture automatic M or totally cut. It's not that people die that censors object to its HOW they die that makes all the difference. People die in KOTOR its a T. People DIE in Manhunt it's an M.

The raters obviously didnt consider it M stuff because the game is a T and thats all that matters at the end of the day. Especially with a holiday release because its parents doing the buying.

Why is the Party AI so rubbish?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Dranoel's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The AI is better than the first game you just have to know which settings to use where. Even left to it's own devices it makes much better use of powers and feats. Dont switch to solo mode if your using stationary AI they will stay put anyway. But they will "teleport" if you start a conversation. In that instance I usually have him run around cracking shields before switching back to my character. -
Thats half true. Upto this point Bioware has had some serious liscenced muscle backing them. Jade Empire is going to be the first time that the only thing holding them up is their own name and nothing else. Dragon Age is almost going to be a competitor to NwN depending how things work out. Jades certainly not generating the same buzz as KOTOR or KOTOR II did at the moment (over here at least) and it's only another month in theory till it's released.

Thats still a different and much less explicit ending. It really isnt all that unstarwars either, the bad guts can win (see EPV) but it's a tempory thing. The more extreme parts Zalbaar killing mission is not automatic for example.Although I havnt seen it. I seriously doubt he rips her arms off or pops off her head. I said it was removed because it was too explicit and dark and would have pushed the game into an M. I see nothing that contradicts that.

Anything better than Jal Shey Mentor Armour?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to a topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Depends on your character. If you have really high dex it gets obsolete mid game once you pass 18. Ossus Keeper robes are nice. Usually with a top level strength underlay. There are some REALLY nice robes but it's pot luck where you will get one. I always seem to come up with the same as I did in D2. Great stuff for the "class" I'm not currently playing. -
But you do have a choice not to fight them.
-
But thats not forced on you it's your choice and as far as I am aware Juhani and Jolee will fight back. If you read the bio boards many people dont play DS for that reason.

It's too late to do anything about DA now , short of cancel it. If the market has moved at that point it will be reflected in the sales.

Review/Rant/Hopes for the future
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to chibijulian's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Skills already have an attribute modifier. Int represents how quickly you pick things up hence it gives you more skill points. The jedi being nearly extinct is a new thing(at the time of KOTORII). Prior to the civil war there were 1000's it makes perfect sense that a counter would be developed to lightsabers. In EP IV+ the jedi are so rare that its just not used. Much like wearing bulky armour fell out of favour when firearms evolved and swords became much slimmer. -
It's already in production which dosnt make it the future. Really heres a $ go get a clue.
-
Never felt particularly compelled to replay KOTOR. Whats so special about the DS ending ?
-
And the game does indeed have a darker storyline. Nowhere however does it say we want gratuatus scenes of violence and an M rating. So perphaps Obsidian misinterpreted their wishes.
-
If they are reusing bits from KOTOR II well expect the game pretty soon because within a year and bit the Xbox II will be taking over the Xbox duties more or less full time. Making a game for an obsolete system dosnt really strike me as a particularly likely thing (though Sony did continue to support the PS so anything is possible). It's not like they dont have experience of a tight schedule and the lack of a solid ending may have nothing at all to do with time anyway. There are many other factors, not least of which would be given the contract for KOTOR III and having a "plan". I'd expect something around June about their next game (which would have it about 6 months into production)
-
It's quite likely. What you love or hate dosnt come into it, its what the market dictates. Same thing happened with RTP if you recall.

does all that happen on Nar Shaddaa or just meeting visas? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thats all Nar Shada Meeting Visas happens when you go either 75% LS or DS. And then when you next return to the ship after landing on your first planet.
-
It depends which planet you start on. Your first part you will always get from either Czerka or the Ithorians on Telos. After that anywhere you would normally get a lightsaber will give you a part until its complete. Nar Shada seems to be the best because you can have a lightsaber before you meet Visas so you then get a freebie off her rather than a part. What you need to do is this. Use sneak to spy on the people in the docks area (they will tell you about Juma Juice) Go to the Cantina and talk to the Twilek and agree to dance (or convince your companion) to dance for Vogga. Dance for Vogga till he falls asleep then put the juma juice in the catch hounds bowl. Steal the part from his treasurey. Find the guy looking for his wife in the same area you eavesdropped on for the juma info. Either kill him, or help reunite him with his wife to get the final piece. Then when you meet Visas enjoy your extra lightsaber. Or on Dxun do all the tasks you are given and you will get the second piece as a reward. Then Visis will provide the third piece (but no freebie). On Dantooine you will be able to buy a piece (or kill) from a scavenger in the sub levels. The other piece comes off Visis, or as a reward for completing the planet.

where are the devs?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to poolofpoo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Right now they are probably asleep. Ironic that they are more visible on Biowares forum lately isnt it. -
Lightsaber parts - Telos
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to xtreme49's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The Duros in the shuttle bay should give it to you as you leave. You dont need to ask about building a lightsaber in advance or anything like that. -
I didnt not enjoy it if that makes any sense. In KOTOR ranged weapons became a liability in the end game but the new feats here made them more than viable. It was easy but it wasnt bothersome or annoying like some games which is a plus. It never got particularly repative either even though there were a few easy win tactics available.

Changed Endgame, Droid Planet Explanations
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Trom's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The basic rules are fine, idiotic changes to then (giving feats up, regeneration of vitality and force points, overpowerful feats, etc ...) and unablity to give enemies decent attack scripts is always going to hurt combat. This game changed the rules to the worst, I cannot know who was the "genious" behind such idiotices (even if I am looking at LucasArts direction I cannot forget PS:T combat) but saying the rules must be changed when if fact they CHANGED the rules from KotOR and to the WORST makes me little hope what the new rules would be about .. perhaps even more broken were we be playing a adventure game with half-baked "lite" RPG elements. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> KOTOR was no different except you didnt get the powers till later in the game. The flaws were already evident just the higher levels make them all the more apparent. regenration has little effect in combat only between combat given a choice between standing around for 5 minutes to recharge or going into battle with 50% FP's most people will stand around. Having implants tied to con was a huge improvement over the old rules. -
How do you make NPCs Jedi?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Sithmasteryoungy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Attons incredibly effective with force wave and a pair of blasters. Because everything is stunned they take full sneak attack damage. You can also act as "stunner" and just let him finish up. This works well as a consular when you dont want force storm overkill. So dont be too worried if he's 20+ as a smuggler when you awaken him. It's all good in the end , just different.
