  1. Made a party of four females, quadra-babes, paladin, fighter, thief, mage, and played through the prologue. It is monkey barrels of fun. I died probably a dozen times fighting orc shamans and ogres in the first cave (ogre cave ... wait, what). Like I mean one-hit kills on my first-level player-characters. Finally I reeled in the bastard, cast sleep, he failed his save for more than one round, got back up, barely took him down in time. Whew! I forgot how entertaining Icewind Dale is, thrust into the deep end right away. The widescreen mod is actually useful. You have to pay close attention, and wear your reading glasses, but it looks good, not distracting at all.
  2. I assume the GOG version comes with this. My retail box is from 2003, with IWD, HoW, and IWD II, but apparently not TotL. Is there a similar "patch" for IWD II, that I don't have, which might explain why the WS mod didn't take on that title, too. Nevermind, I see v.2.01 for IWD II available. Edit: Upon installation of TotL, the widescreen mod installed correctly.
  3. An awfully bright, unctuous glow, over there. I prefer the midnight lack of light, over here.
  4. Has to be the retail. Tried installing to a new directory other than Program Files, disabling AV, as admin, nothing. I'll just wait for the EE.
  5. All of my copies are retail CDs. Maybe that's why I can't get the mod to work.
  6. Thanks. I can't get the widescreen mod to install, even with HoW. Tried re-installing the game, the only hitch was "Unable to rename override file." The game's file name doesn't say HoW anywhere, and the mod's dos box says it's "unsupported." A search didn't help either. Bummer. Can't get it to go for IWD II, either.
  7. Is there a widescreen mod for Icewind Dale. I made a party yesterday after reading this thread, and it just won't work on a 1080 monitor, not in windowed mode or fullscreen ... super jaggy, can't see the charcters in the inn very much at all, they're so tiny.
  8. Interaction with the world map looks cool. Is it a painting? Am I floating on a magic carpet high above the coast? Can't tell.
  9. I had a chicken-fried steak-shaped heart attack earlier. For some reason, pepper doesn't taste nearly as amazing anywhere else, as it does on C-FS. Well, scrambled eggs.
  10. I know that song. Duhn, dunt dunt dunt dunnn ... dunt dunt dunt dunnn ... dunn dunn dunn ... dunn ... dunnt dunnt dunnt dunnt dunn
  11. Huh, no response. I guess even bros can be tased by erudition once in a while.
  12. Did the Nerf ammo get you anywhere, or, perhaps gentlemen don't kiss and tell.
  13. Holy moly, Anand retired from AnandTech. He started the site when he was 14, now it's the preeminent tech information authority. Will be weird to read the place without his presence.
  14. Bernie Ecclestone, or his crony clone, guaranteed. Green vacuums, electric F1 cars ... a powerless object is less than pitiable. Dyson's point about the used-bag litter seems reasonable.
  15. I'll go even further. I accuse the PS:T developers of secretly wanting to make high-minded elitists look hilariously dumb when commenting on the game on the internet, many years after it was made. Can't tell if serious. Monte drives right over H-ME's in a steel panzer of righteous vengeance.
  16. Very handy feature, this. Quite a few insist on being ultra-anti-fun Richards. Don't feed the pigeons and the won't poop all over your black pearl finish.
  17. I wish. How great would it be to have a Life Model Decoy that goes to work and brings home the bacon, while I sit and drink scotch at ten in the morning (which has turned out okay, now that it's eleven am, the pain in my neck is almost bearable. Last week it was my back ... I think I'm breaking slowly).
  18. Yeah, I've wanted one for a long while but I can't justify the price for a second car I shouldn't have said I don't like 'em ... I do, I mean the body style is instantly recognizable (to people who notice, anyway) and super svelte ... plus it's unique in the category. I know there is a healthy fine car enthusiast culture in Denver, so I'm sure Teslas have been driven in snow, somewhere. If not, the Q50 is AWD, yes, it should get you to Crested Butt no problem.
  19. I heard by word of mouth Michael Sam was let go by the Rams, too. Haven't looked up the details, though. Was surprised by this.
  20. Fabio's sport motorcycle collection rivals the best in Italy. He's a true Ducatisto, plus Bimota, Cagiva, MV Agusta, you name it.
  21. Equally unequivocal and appealing. No wonder I didn't focus on, or build a construct out of, something it doesn't say. A comparatively new way to play in the tiredest of tired genres ... I'll take two.
  22. Whew, okay, don't tell a Spaniard he sounds like an Italian, or he will punch you right in the Mediterranean.
  23. Someone I trust pointed me to an online T-shirt store, which has probably the best blend of art and popular geek culture I've seen. They use an interesting sales model: for twenty-four hours, a unique new design is available for $11. For one day after that, the same design is $14. For a limited time after that, in their gallery, previous designs are $18. The whole thing really suits my daily internet vigilance compulsion. Plus I like art, and movies and games and books and everything else ... cleverly displayed on a T-shirt. Got this design to try out the store. Red Five was, of course, Luke's call sign in Ep. IV.
  24. Black Widow 2014 Issue #3 Cover Art by Phil Noto

  25. What, no, Jorge's dreamy accent undulates like the red silk of a matador. Put a mask on him, and the Zorro of my dreams has come to take me away to the avocado orchards.
