Soulbound Weapons
AndreaColombo replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not abhorrent; merely unnecessary and inconsistent with the game's lore. As for the rest, I was being ironic. There is nothing I would change about soulbound weapons, yet there are many ways in which they defy rules that normally apply to weapons in the game. You're focusing on one of these—their being universal—whereas you're fine with the others and this inconsistency makes your argument of "soulbound weapons should follow the rules" weaker: Either they follow the same rules as other weapons in everything, or they follow the developer's vision. Besides, weapons created by Wizard spells are also universal. Why is that not a problem, but soulbound weapons are? -
Spoiler request

Right here -
The problem with giving them per-encounter spells is that either you limit them at 1-2 spells per level (which would be frustratingly few), or you turn every single battle into a novafest where everyone sits back and watches the Wizard/Druid AoE-nuke everything with little to no effort. The vast majority of the fights can be won with DAOM + Shadowflame + 3 Fireballs. No need for anyone else to get involved. ...aaand I concur that Wizards are an absolutely great AoE DPS class (though Druids are also pretty badass.)

Act 3 difficulty?
AndreaColombo replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Continuing after the main plot would have required months of development just for the extra reactivity needed for the game to make sense. Besides, when we were younger expansions were more along the lines of Tales of the Sword Coast, if memory serves. When the games of old ended, they ended. The problem lies in the second half of the game's being too forgiving. It was so already with the base game and simply got worse with TWM, but it's still an issue with how Act III and IV are designed. -
Soulbound Weapons
AndreaColombo replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If we're to make soulbound weapons follow the rules, then... they should have no class-based restriction. No other weapon in the game has those restrictions, so clearly they break the rules and are silly. they shouldn't require you to do anything to unlock their full power. All other weapons come fully unlocked from the get-go, so requiring steps to unlock soulbound weapons breaks the rules and is silly. they shouldn't be restricted to a single character to which they are bound. No other weapon is only usable by a single character at a time; very silly rule-breaking mechanic! And while we're at it— Who was the first person in this thread to claim soulbound weapons are "one of the best in the game"? Oh, it was Brimsurfer on post #20! And who was the first to mention that unique weapons cost a lot to upgrade, implying that soulbound weapons are generally better as a result? Ah, also Brimsurfer on post #31! But by all means, accuse me of derailing the topic when I reply to points you made as though it made perfect sense (and for the record, I am very well aware of what powers soulbound weapons have; you, on the other hand, seem to completely ignore all the non-DPS abilities that unique items have.) -
Aarik, quick question: captain Emery and her goons remain at the Charred Barrel like the crowd remains in front of Caed Nua, but I don't recall seeing it mentioned. Is that also fixed for 3.02? On an unrelated note, are you privy to the current patch roadmap? How many more patches can we reasonably expect after 3.02? Thanks!

Soulbound Weapons
AndreaColombo replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Some unique items already come with the Superb enchant, though, and you don't have to abide by specific requirements for it. Ingredients for the other enchants aren't hard to come by; I always end up having a lot more than I need without even trying. To be honest, the cost of enchanting isn't that steep. Yes you need think over which items to upgrade, but once you decide you're going to stick to them--same thing with soulbound weapons: you choose one, commit to it and unlock it. Besides, unique weapons can be given to anyone at any time; soulbound weapons only bind to specific classes and, once bound to a character, are only usable by that character until you severe the bond. If you do, you lose all progress and must go through the tedious drudgery again (usually not worth it.) I think that's steeper than the cost of applying a lash that gives you +25% of the total damage dealt per swing as extra DPS, or refining with Durgan steel and getting more speed, more crit chance, and more crit damage. Sure, you could make them non-universal, but then what? Nobody would use them anymore? -
Soulbound Weapons
AndreaColombo replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Fighters were OP and got a nerf? I must have missed that. Again, how many min/max builds do you know whose main weapon is soulbound? Personally I only use them situationally (e.g. St Ydwen's Redeemer against Vessels) and doing without them wouldn't change my power level much. Likewise removing an Accuracy bonus from them (I would sooner ditch those weapons altogether than indulge in inefficient character building and take two different Focus talents for their sake.) I still disagree with your assessment of souls and their role in the world of Eora but there isn't much that can be done about that. -
What potions are useful?
AndreaColombo replied to gunman78's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I mostly use DAOM and Major Endurance. On a Backlash Beldam build I'll use Fire Shield as well. Flask of War Paint is pretty good if you're not already using Scroll of Valor. -
Hi Eric, apologies for the screenshot mix-up. The correct screenshot is this one ("Scroll of Restore Critical Stamina" should be "Scroll of Restore Critical Endurance") As for cases of using "I" as an object, Durance and Grieving Mother are the bigger offenders. "It is between her and I" for example. Indeed it is a common error in speech and written text nowadays, much to my inner stickler's dismay. I understand your reasons for leaving it in. Thanks a lot for taking your time to read this thread and fix typos in the game's text! I greatly appreciate it

Act 3 difficulty?
AndreaColombo replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
1. You can go until all that is left to do is jump into the pit that leads into Sun-in-Shadows. The game will warn you more than once through dialog that jumping in is a point of no return, so don't do it until you want to fight the boss. The stronghold interface also becomes inaccessible once you do. 2. Haven't tried yet, but at level 14 it was kind of easy even when scaled up.
