Canon difficulty? (if any)
AndreaColombo replied to Belgeval's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Most of Expert Mode can actually be replicated by means of menu options, so I'd keep it off (don't think you can turn it off after selecting it at the beginning, but don't quote me on that.) At a later time you can go to the option menu and hide any helpers you find superfluous. Story Mode and PotD both alter the game's rules; other than that, I wouldn't pick "Easy" as "canon." Either Hard or Normal; probably Hard based on limaxo's post. -
It's written in the post you quoted.

Back on topic, Chanters can be made to hit pretty hard. Not as hard as Fighers or Monks, perhaps, but still hard. I'm using Boeroer's The Last Unicorn build in my pre-3.04 party testing sessions (I'm OCD like that) and with but a couple buffs (and its weapon enchanted to Superb + lash), its Accuracy and damage are nothing to sneeze at. The only drawback is that it hits rather slowly, in part because I needed to use Durgan Steel and Gauntlets of Swift Action on other characters. A potion DAOM ameliorates that to an extent, but everybody else in my party attacks a lot faster (that's largely due to my preference for fast-paced aggro, which leads me to optimizing attack speed as much as possible across the board.) But yeah, a well-built protagonist Chanter can be made to hit hard and at a decent speed, on top of passively chanting and healing the party (and casting invocations to boot.)

You make a fair point, but the same could be said about the bog dragons which provide the scales to legendasize your armor. That's an actually challenging fight that doesn't leave much content with which to enjoy your legendary armor afterward. With that said, I don't think the Kraken should be harder than the dragon fights; more like on par with them. Right now, even fixing the DR bug it remains easier than Adra Dragon, which is supposedly a 12th-level enemy. You need to put in some real effort to be only level 12 when you face the Kraken. In my current game my party is level 14 (protagonist's 15), with character builds over 90% complete even in terms of equipment, and most tough fights are still untouched (including the last two bounties from PX2 and some bounties from the base game.) Even with DR 8, the Kraken will go down really fast (most of my party members have 5 DR bypass, which leaves the Kraken with a measly 3.)

'Wishlist' for issues to address before pushing 3.04 live
AndreaColombo replied to Sking's question in Patch Beta Bugs and Support
@Sking I've just confirmed the bug mentioned here, whereby the Kraken's DR is actually zero in combat. This is on a 3.03 game. Here's a saved game right before the Kraken fight, so you can verify this by yourself: LINK. As was mentioned by many in the feedback thread, the Kraken fight is rather underwhelming and easy. We need at least the proper DR value to apply (although I'm still hoping for some rebalancing on Kraken, Thaos, and Sky Dragon based on the feedback thread.) Could you put this on the wishlist? Pretty please? -
3.04? Update on our next patch
AndreaColombo replied to Sking's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I think it's this bug; not necessarily related to that particular armor. -
Fighter /ducks from the incoming choir of "booo" Seriously, though. I'm personally not a fan of Barbarians because they're far from my play style and preferences; Fighters ans Monks, on the other hands, are both very good in my book. Fighters tend to be more passive on average (although they do have some active abilities) so they're the way to go if you like low-maintenance characters; Monks shine when played actively.

3.04? Update on our next patch
AndreaColombo replied to Sking's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Yes, it's intended. IIRC it was stated during development that AoE increases from high INT would not include friendly fire. -

Great news!! May I bring this to your attention too, just in case? Should it turn out to be a quick fix, all the more awesome Sking, do you happen to have a bug in your database about the Wolf spiritshift form not granting the +1 to Move Speed it is supposed to? If yes, any chance it makes it in? If not, shall I provide a repro case or rather not waste time on it because priority/resources? -

I got them all the time but if memory serves I did indeed always go straight to Cayron's Scar. -

Shame about the bug but, as always, I appreciate your honest feedback EDIT: What about the other bug I linked? Any hope for that one? -
'Wishlist' for issues to address before pushing 3.04 live
AndreaColombo replied to Sking's question in Patch Beta Bugs and Support
Hey Sking, any chance this can make the list? Even though that specific thread relates to Tanglefoot, the issue is general and more examples are linked in that very thread. Imho it is currently the biggest bug in the game. This is also a bigger deal than some of the items on the wishlist in my opinion; would be great if it could be addressed. By the way, is any rebalancing planned based on the feedback on underwhelming encounters that was given in the other thread? Kudos to the team for all the hard work you put into the game thus far, and more so for working on the 3.04 update -
They can be built many ways depending on your play style, personal preferences, and role you want them to have in your party. The best starting point would be checking out builds from the sticky thread in this forum to gain an understanding of how abilities, talents, spells, and items synergize in this game. Some builds work really well with companions as well (e.g. Thundercat for Hiravias, Juggernaut for Zahua, Chillfog or Drake Ambassador for Kana, Lady/Tank of Pain for Edér, etc.)

Boons are gained in Act III in Teir Evron after committing to a god's plan for the souls you'll be freeing after defeating Thaos. They give +1 to an attribute and, IIRC, a bonus to a skill. Wael's boon would be gained in Act IV in Sun in Shadows where he manifests to you and proposes his plan; however, there is no dialog option to commit to it and therefore gain his boon (which exists in the game's resources and grants +1 INT if memory serves.) Skaen's boon is also gained in Act IV after defeating Thaos. That you can actually get it despite its being useless because the game is over is a nice touch of reactivity, imo.
