  1. Eh.... honestly, you could put the restrictions down yourself and not reload more than X number of times. Even Ironman I think is a waste of time, but "continues" could be done by self-restriction. It doesn't really add anything to the game.
  2. there is no resurrection in this game (permadeath) and healing science is poor.
  3. ^what... Look sewers are great and all. We just wanted to see a few other possibilities for dungeons.
  4. They're ultimately trying to take the genre to a new level. It's jut nobody is willing to risk that first, very risky step. Edit: Oh and nobody wants to buy those kinds of games.
  5. That's because Sigil is an actual part of the Forgotten Realms universe.
  6. Yeah. I really hate obnoxious easter eggs. Don't make the game ridiculous.
  7. In terms of repercussions, why not have several different ones. 1) Single individual gets hostile and attacks you. You either kill him or run away. If you kill him in front of a guard, the guards attack you. If they hit you in front of guard, the guards attack you. J/K If he hits you in front of guard, guards attack him. 2) Individual finds guard to tell on you. If he finds guard, guards attack you. 3) Individual "protects" himself (you are no longer able to succeed in pickpocketing.) 4) Individual runs away. 5) Individual steals back what you stole from him.
  8. ... forests, ships, islands, gladiatorial arenas, lost dwarven cities, run-down bazaars, an actual dungeon (underneath a castle), being shrunken in size and traversing a single room ...
  9. Wow something trashing Fall Out New Vegas and praising Fall Out 3. Blasphemy. LOL yeah... wanted to see how many people actually watch the links I send out. It does make some pertinent points though. I'm not sure if the EC staff has actually played FO1 and 2 though, so that might be part of the reason they're actually crazy.
  10. I'd rather they come up with the Easter Eggs. IE inspired would be good.
  11. ^err..that would be assassin's creed, wouldn't it?
  12. no no you can't say that. you didn't want updates, so this update doesn't really pertain to you. they shouldn't take your input into account. :D see?
  13. This. I tend to play RPG's (well, all good games actually) for pretty long stretchs at a time. When the going is not intense, I prefer a more laidback position to being crouched over the keyboard. KotOR was excellent, being able to run about and doing most everything using only one hand on the mouse. Also because when I played KotOR the first time, I had had nervous injury on my left hand and had to make do with only the right. Surprisingly many games are totally unplayable unless you have both hands available. I think I also played NWN 1-handed. Understandable with keyboard + mouse shooters, but no hurry rpg's should really be able to do better. mouse will always be fully implemented. guis are standard. unfort. keyboards have fallen to the wayside.
  14. no randomization. irrelevant loot perhaps, butt nothing else. let replayability come from not being able to get to 100% completion of game in one run, i.e. some quests class/skill specific, etc.
  15. Wow. You know how unbelievably racist that is? Why don't we make all the Chinese-looking people "pandas" and all the black-looking people "monkeys?" I'm sorry its too complicated for your pea-brain to distinguish between peoples of different cultures and ethnicities without designating them into animals. Edit: I guess "Not sure if trolling" would have been appropriate. Sarcasm doesn't read well in text.
  16. Except that ethnic groups develop as a result of climate and geography and you can't just put a bunch of different cultures in a games, but make them all white guys, it's a little racist. Kind of goes back to that whole realism thing everyone was talking about... I don't think that this has actually ever been proven. It's just one theory of why certain "ethnic groups" are the way they are. There are many exceptions to this rule in RL. Even now in America and many parts of the world, we have mixed ethnicities within one geographical location.
  17. Did you actually read the links you sent out? Or are you a CS major in college trying to teach some of us who have degrees in these fields about NP complete problems? Your argument is void. NP-complete problems are not inherent to architectural limitations, but programming algorithm limitations. In many cases, these problems are still approximated and solved using "tricks of the trade." Go back and re-read your wikipedia article about common misconceptions. --------------------- Having a "human-like AI" is not what I'm asking for. I'm asking for varied AI for different enemies that takes into account their creature habits (hordes should generally work together, no "pulling" of intelligent enemies, individual enemies should be smart enough to run away if being kited by 6 characters, etc). Your implementation of AI is only one of many different possible solutions. For a completely robust AI, yes it might be limited by architecture. But I don't want a completely intelligent AI, I want one that doesn't always fail to the same problem. This shouldn't take up all the computer's processing power.
  18. ^basically this. most power users don't even use the mouse. an example in the real world is excel power users in the banking industry. They train you basically to do everything with the keyboard using shortcuts and hotkeys... a keyboard is innately superior than a mouse in speed and precision.
  19. I feel like it can actually get more complicated than that. It's not just "Are you good or evil?" It can range: Who knows you in the town that you start in? What have you been doing before starting your adventure? Does that give you any advantages? How much of the game world should you really know (Arcanum failed here...) about? What have you been doing with your life until now? Do you have a family? Wife? Children? Parents? Where does your character start? Why was he/she there? and so on and so on..... From what I understood from the update, it seems like OEI wants us to be able to play as many different characters as possible from the beginning of the adventure and for us to fill in as much background story as we want to. Therefore, they can't "railroad" out characters too much by giving them too much background. http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/bad-writing http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/amnesia-and-story-structure
  20. I like that idea Hassat. It's nice. I just worry about my character portrait filling up with status changes
  21. I'd be OK with a supernatural mace-bashing story. That's cool with me. I sat and tried to think about how it would be possible to actually have a story centered around any old character, and boy it's TOUGH! How much background do you give them, do we use the amnesia trope, do other people recognize our character (which ones?), etc. All I have to say is 1) Josh Sawyer is hilarious 2) You guys have a tough nut to crack 3) My colored laundry does run, anyone know what to do about that? Very cool update! THANKS! You're alone here. I want to see how they make games too. These last two updates have been great! And them talking about it gives us the players a chance to give our input too. If they just tell us everything after it's been set, then we can't really talk about what inspires us.
