  1. Mmmm im gonna have to say alice madness returns ost and morrowind ost. Silent hill 1 gets an honorable mention because it was very nice mixed with alice madness returns for my carrion crown campaign and my players loved it
  2. I dunno bout that. Apparently sun spiders can grow to the size of a human...
  3. Cant be done, the end. Thread was baseless from the very beginning or at least since we have known there will be no romance in poe. BALDERDASH!!! (Shakes cane from rocking chair) This thread was created so that we could flap our gums back and forth in a caved pin about romances or the lack there of without getting all ghe other threads all hot and bothered by the content of what is going on! Without this thread to cage it in, can u imagine all the other threads getting crazy ideas such as holding hands and (gasp!) dancing and shaking their bums to try and attract other threads! I mean. An u imagine what the threads would look like? People cant stop talking about it so this is here to keep all the talk in one place...so SHHHHHH. Or else all the other threads will cant on and ull see "romance this" "romance that" all over the dagum place. Keep it locked tight and rdy tbose gates so we can shove all of it in here. And yes i have been drinking!!!
  4. Yeah if you do the plot of the games there are not usually a ton of choices to make. Daggerfall stands out as an exception of sorts. Even with that bizarre way they got out of how the game world was effected. And also morrowind, hence why i called oblivion and skyrim because in those games, main quest and side quests u could only do them 1 way. The quests were very on the rails. Most people see them as nonlinear because they give a sandbox world with places to explore and u can roleplay in ur head whatever u want, but the actual quests u do are very railroaded.
  5. Well said. How about some clear examples. Linear Story = Baldur's Gate 1. There are side quests but they have no effect on the main plot and you have to do the main plot in order. Partially Linear = Mass Effect 1. You don't have to follow plot in a specific order.... but you do have to do all major plot events. There are some side quests and they have slight influence on the story. Non Linear = Elder Scrolls. Yeah there is a story, but it is pretty weak. Most people ignore it, and would rather just run around and do all the faction/side stuff which can have a big impact on the game world. Meanwhile the main story in many ways can be done out of order and you can even accidentally wander into some parts of it. Some Elder Scrolls games are even so open on plot you can kill key storyline npcs and still clear the main plot. Meanwhile.... who hired you to get all that bear ass exactly, what is wrong with them, what do they need all that ass for, and how exactly are you carrying the 20 bear ass in question? Ok elder scrolls though with oblivion and skyrim are actually VERY linear. Most people see them as nonlinear simply because they chose to do the quests or not BUT if they chose to do so its very much on the rails. It just hides it by being a sandbox world butbu ae still "stuck" at a certain moment in the storyline if u do not follow the rails.
  6. Deep npc interactions and romances do not contradict one another. Romances can be a "form" of deep npc interaction, but doesnt mean that every romance will be a deep npc interaction or that the effort/ability is the same. Just because someone can do a story with deep npc interactions doesnt mean they can do one using romance as a tool to do so. I GM and i consider myself lretty good at story telling and i can create characters the players will hate, will want to protect and stick up for, be intimidated by by just wlrds alone etc etc. I CANNOT come up with a great or interesting love arch/romance at all. It pisses my woman off because she sees my notes and characters and stories i write and gets mad because for the life of me, i cannot write or come up with something romantic for her as often as i can with stories. imho its a helluva lot easier to come up with an epic tale, a horror story, a good mystery than it is to create a decent romance story for me. reason is because action, epicness, mystery, and even horror is so much easier to conjure up because i have seen and/or felt those emotions and tales whereas a romance to be done well, u have to have insperation for, a well to dip from. And while i have alot of love in my life, its more simple than something complex because thats i view/like romance. The torrent of emotions and how and the steps that lead up, during, and after are hard to capture to me in something on the same level as the rest kf what i can do. some people are really good (or think they are at romances) while others arent. Doesnt make them less writers or story tellers, people just have their niche. Romance authors will find romance easier than horror, and so on and so forth. So ill end by saying, it is not a contradiction. Romance is a vehicle a writer can use to create deep relationships between characters, its just not all writers/storytellers have the license much less that vehicle of their own to try to drive. They just use other vehicles to get to the same place, doesnt make it all the same or that everyone can all drive the same thing.
  7. We should give bioware props for putting out there mainstream nonstraight characters and relationships, even though the writing isnt good, we should applaud them for the act of doing so but not for the actual writing. Thats summed up in one sentence for ya Spiritual death that is. Id rather roleplay in a more jolly universe that is medieval inspired where this was not the case as in some totally rotten universe like where we live in in the modern world where we do have this. But I am having a terribly difficult time reading that article because it makes me laugh hysterically In fact, I just cant properly read it. Anyone care to do my dirty work for me and then sum up the loads of sense very shortly? I am really interested in where that loads of sense lies exactly.
  8. I can understand the importance of having them but at the same time, u cant deny that if done wrong or bad its totally understandable for people NOT to want them. Its fine bioware is doing them and the whole same sex relatioships etc, but the importance of having them in a game can be ruined and/or seen as a problem or deemed not as important anymore if it done badly or forced upon u badly or etc. Just having a romance option in a game does not automatically make it better and a story that doesnt have romance in it does not make it automatically bad. I think u get that as i see ur point of view as in wanting it done alot so that eventually ull find better and more romance stories to interact with. Im sorta on that page when i go into rpgs "in a way" in that while i rather not have romance in a game unless done extremely well and totally bypassable without noticing romance was in the game, i want rpgs to have branching paths of c&c instead of always getting railroaded into a single story and my character doesnt matter. So if im somewhat right, i can understand the desire for romance just like i have a desire for all or most rpgs to have branching storypaths. That sentence is mainly for the ones who are blinded that u CANT have a good story and deep interaction without romance being in the game and that being the crux of what its riding on. Just like i understand a game can have a mindblowing story without having to resort to multipath c&c options. So while i see and will repeat the praise of bioware forwarding same sex scenarios in a media for younger people to be more tolerable to life choices, they lose that importance to someone as myself who is already tolerable and accepting of those decisions who may very well feel slighted that an "agenda" badly done ruined a what coulda been a great game. Not saying they have (well ok they have but it wasnt sole reason such as da2 as it helped, but me i think romance wasnt the reason but more of just overall bad writing) with dai as i havent played it yet, but....ill stop rambling i think u get what im saying lol.
  9. I dunno but i think obsidian basically shined and imho had their best work of companions in fonv. Granted i will admit not everyone was fantastic, but a very good bit of them were very well done. Raul will forever be my favorite companion of all time lol. Dry witted sarcastic humor....never change Raul, never change.
  10. I will say i was very cautious about south park being on uplay...if im not mistaken, i didnt have to use uplay at all. Granted i got my off steam and i know some peoples opionions on that which is for a different thread. BUT if ur worried about uplay being tacked on, u have no worries whatsoever then as u dont have to mess with it at all. Great game and ifbur a south park fan and/or dontvget offended easily, it is soooo worth the buy imho. Playing as kids who are playing as fantasy tropes was surprisingly a breath of fresh air to the rehash of most fantasy games ive played in a while. If yal cant tell, south park stick of truth allll the way for me, sorry divinity sin (
  11. Yeah companions is one thing i am not worried about at all from obsidian tbh. I think they have a healthy track record as far as companions goes.
  12. I voting south park all the way. Havent played da:i but have played dos and while i had fun with dos, i had even more fun with the south park game (shoot me i dont care lol). If south park doesnt win, i hope divinity does buttttt im really seeing dragon age win that.
  13. Well we KNOW theres no romance for the players, but i have yet to play an obsidian game that didnt have some type of love story in it (albeit ones that were between npcs). So u very well may see some romance stories, just not with the player.
  14. It is also not fair to compare it with vanilla BG1 as that was first such game for Interplay/Bioware and OE has experience from making such games now. It is not fair to compare PoE with BG2 size or AI complexity but it is fair to compare to features BG2 had like big spells lists, lots of classes and kits and so on. Putting stronghold into PoE tells you even OE rather compare with BG2 than BG1. The thing is i think it is fair to compare poe to bg1 of the spell lists. Bg2 had u starting out at what lvl? So it started u out at a much higher level so by then u SHOULD have big spell lists that keep getting bigger. At lvl 1 though, wizards in bg1 and in tabletop arent very powerful at all if u dont spam the rest mechanicdue to spell list and the reason WHY wizards become very powerful at later levels is because mainly of the size of their spell list and how many they could cast before they needed to rest. Tbh as Josh is a tabletop player, if u go into any tabletop forums it has became acceptable that wizards will eventually break games and be more powerful than any martial by far. Its accepted that wizards will outshine any martial and most other classes once they get enough spells under their belt. I believe that is why wizards are being brought down so that they are automatically gonna outshine any other class and hes trying to keep other classes on same footing.
  15. Would adding in enemies retreating at a certain level and possibly using disengage mechanics and also adding in some code that if the npc cant attack something in a tike frame of 10secs or so to disengage and target nearist enemy pc help out?
  16. I was under the impression that Martin Septim became the messiah in Oblivion. He did, the player became the messiah of CHEESE! (madness).
  17. Lol sigh, if i ever need a laugh or to vomit, that place will always come thru for me lol.
  18. LOL. ok with no spoilers please, do we get to see and find out what happened to a certain "slow" dwarf in the game? try as i may, its the only character i can bring myself having any curiosity about.
  19. On topic, i find myself thinking back on the dragon age games and the only romance i saw that was done "decently" was the one with morrigan (that how u spell her name?). The reason is because how it was woven into the main plot and u had the choice to bypass it if u wanted to. I guess the reason why is because it was/could have been something important to the overall story. Alot of content involving it. The others...besides the gringworthy VA and a good bit of the writing, didnt really spark or seem interesting because after u romanced them with tje screen to black...u were basically done. No involving into core story or overreaching plot. It was done. DA2...im an openminded guy but i prefer a certain sex and i didnt like the less amount of options. DA:O, it seemed u started and instigated it but u had many options to be nice, ****, or just normal. DA2 it seemed it was shoving it down ur throat in that u didnt instigate it, the game did. AND then on top of it, uhad basically 2 options. U had the "im the **** telling u no in an **** way" or it had "im so into u lets go do it like they do on the discovery channel" and then everyone once in awhile u had the "ow thats sweet im gonna be flirty but let u down". Tbh i felt they messed up by one "shoving it down our throats" in the approach and then got rid of the "normal" dialogue options. Hell tbh the only characters i was wondering about in the new game is varric (which i heard took the anders approach sadly) and now im only left with wondering about the dwarf son. All the other characters because of their romance approach, i dont care about them. Im done with being their problem solvers and tail on the side. Now i rambled on so long to get to my main point. I think most people would be okay with having romance in the game myself included IF they followed a few guidelines. 1. Writing. The writing has to be good. Self explanatory. 2. The approach. Give the player the reins in instigating it or not and do it in a way where the npc isnt going on and on to "look at me!!! Love me!!!" and have it where the absence of romance isnt noticeable. Just because u CAN romance someone, doent mean hang a big sign over tbeir head that says "eventually u can bang me!". Have it where u could play the game and not even notice u can romance someone. 3. Have it important but again transparent to where it also isnt important. If ur gonna add romance, implement it into the core game where it has more impact and importance than just the side quest of getting the fade to black and then its done, take ques like morrigan from DA:O. BUT at the same time, have it where if u dont romance u dont miss out or change the importance. Morrigan again. Such as the baby thing and the dlc. We dont miss out if we dont romance her as far as tbe overall story but we just miss out the connection and importance of the situation. Hope that makes sense. 4. Add brothels witb the option yo spend money snd daddle lasses on ur knees no matter ur sex and throw in an option for a bar fight with ur mate as well. Those 4 things i believe is very important to having a romance done well and thats what im expecting for a romance for me to like and be behind in games IF a gam chose to have romance in it. so far i havent seen many at all doen right or decently and tbh i have no problem whatsoever having no romance in games because i rather have the absence of it than have to deal with terribad ones.
  20. Mmmm maybe because he has different tastes and likes a wide variety of games? Myself i grew up on the final fantasy/secret of mana/chrono trigger series and then tes series and for the longest time thought morrowind (hint-still do) one of the most amazing rpgs ever made and never even touched crpgs when i threw money at obsidian for their kickstarter. Hell the ones i tried i didnt even like but fonv impressed me so much thay i just threw money at them. just because Bruce loves a good romance story and loves bioware games doesnt mean he wouldnt enjoy a good obsidian game even if it didnt have romance in it. i seem to be on the opposite point of view with Bruce alot but cmon, no need to call out someone on tastes as theres no problem if the same person loves BG2, DA2, and Hello Kitty island( not saying he does but it wouldnt be a problem if he did). Different people, different tastes. Lets keep it civil we have been a good behavior so far for awhile lol no need to end it
  21. Well unfortuantly black friday has spilled over into thanksgiving and they got me pulling a double from 3ock thanksgiving afternoon when the sales start after a few hours all the way to friday morning at 5 when they do the last sale so im gonna be missing out on all those discounts lol. so far a n600 dual band with a gigabit seems in my price range, im hoping that should be enough. Looking it looks like i can put all my other devices on the 2.5 bandwith and leave the 5 bandwith strictly for the shield. Ahh i maybe not understanding or reading it wrong
  22. That does look very good! Mmm ill have to see if walmart sells that. Im strapped for cash and the discount helps out alot lol.
  23. Ever since fonv, i dont put much stock in it anymore. I only pay attention when things are getting mostly 50 or 60 below from both journalists and players.
  24. Ok cool then ill save my money and stick with just the portable. I looked and i met thebpc requirements but i do not believe my n450 netgear router is gonna cut it so im gonna basically upgrade router and then be set. Tyvm!
