  1. the hole underdark, was a swing and mis in my case, I didnt knew the first time what the hell i was fighting, and i died a lot! By The 8º time i played it, i knew what to expect how to win and so on, so it was easy. Personaly i want the game to be CHALENGING not GIMMIK HARD. I could prefer a degree or randomness in enemies i could enconter from playhtrogh to playhtrogh, like a Red dragon the first time an ice dragon the next. i dont know how to explain it. I want a good inmertion, chalenge, that the game tells me some times depending on certain factors, suff I should know without reading the manual, etc. but Not too much, to spoit the fun.
  2. Maybe when I wrote “that can be toggle in the options.” My intention was that some players may not want that option, or solution “ON”.
  3. Can i Say all of them? Aumaua Druid, Human Barbarian, Orlan fighter, dwarf Rogue...so many choices i want them all
  4. Im sticking with Human Barbarian for my first character but the Second one! is Aumaua Druid! What will be the rest, We will know once they start with the beta testing, lol
  5. They can still Do a Kick start once the game Lunches. You know the riot they could get if we backed an Expantion, Second game, or what ever, and Some/every one Hates the game? or something. A kickstart is a Gamble, Right now we Gamble on realy Good Horse (Obsidian), If the game does well, they can lunch A second Kickstart. And if they way things went well i could pay again, to suport in a game i know i will like , insted a game i belive it might recapture old classics. And now with the expirience they have from this game they could be even more Specific, with tresholds and what not. because they live it once. Again, just me i love the mass effect / Witcher, BG1-BG2, Where you keep going witht those characters you love.
  6. Back to how a game like this can benefit from ideas of other type of games. I do think it possible, to search for inspiration for the combat part of the game, in MMOs and MOBAs, because that’s what those games focus on, Balance and Combat. Some of those like, the deck building of Guild Wars 1, that have Asymmetrical / symmetrical balance. And in it last iteration it is full fledged party single player game. And back to balance in the sense that one character is a late bloomer mage, where he is there just to waste space at the start of the game and then boom, the rest of the team is there to waste space. I prefer a steady balance where each class a or many has rols to fill and they can do it in different ways and maybe they can do stuff there are not primary able to do but because the party is build that way they can do it. But that’s just me.
  7. I backed a Full game, and thats wat i want, once the game lunches, ill talk about expancions and stuff. But in general Rule, yes for expantions i want to keep going with the story of my usualy many PCs.
  8. This is fair. There are a few other options to deal with the enemies that require very specific preparations. I actually considered including those very examples. But the thing is, those are still fairly niche strategies that require some degree of specific preparation. Summoning undead is great against basilisks... if you memorized Animate Dead and happen to know that the basilisk can't petrify it. Protection from magic scrolls are great for individual encounters, if you thought to buy enough to cover your whole party for every single mage fight. I'm sure there are more ways which I haven't bothered to figure out because, hey, I've already got multiple working strategies. But that's not really my point. My point is that none of those strategies (except the area transition one, which is definitely an exploit) can really be used without preparation (unless you happen to be lucky enough to randomly have the counter prepared, which is feasible for things like Animate Dead against basilisks). Traps are also an example of this, especially in Durlag's Tower. Don't have a thief with high find traps? Sorry. The dungeon is filled with highly lethal traps that don't go away when you trigger them. Hope you have more potions than God. This is exactly a problem for me, how did one find that you needed or could summon skeletons to fight basilisk. How did one know that you needed some protection of magi scrolls? The answerer usually is trial and error, luck, and/or a guide. Once you know it, is all downhill, the puzzle is solved and it losses some of the fun. Combat should be fun, opponents should have some times tells, to pause, and move your team out of the area of an attack, something to keep you guessing. This is not BG1-2, this is 10 Years later, we backed the game so to improve on something that was awesome! For example a Smart Autopause, with some standard dialog that can be toggle in the options. For example a Cleric that can sense evil, so if he has high resolve or something he can autopause the game, and states: Man this place feels wrong we should run from this place for now! A Ranger Walking and stopping the group, to say: There is a pack of Wild Wolf near, lets not go that road for now. A Mage with hi lore, as soon as you see a basilisk it states: Man that’s a freaking basilisk we should bale NOW! Etc, finding books and stuff to create a bestiary, with information to beat each monster, some lore, and other cool stuff. But that’s just me.
  9. Personally I prefer a mix with the witcher where game lore changes your journal with information of powerful beings that you will fight and so on. where you can learn in game most of the bad habits of the enemies you will encounter, and some surprices but still the game tells you more or less what you are doing will not work so well. When I first fighter KangGaxx, I was destroyed, and then destroyed again, then I went to find a guide, and used some scrolls, and some more preparation leveling up two times later I beat him. It could have been awesome to find some book in the BG world to let me know That KangGaxx was a powerful mage, that had powers that make him immune to most weapons in the game, etc. or that its known that one time X weapon wielded by Y hero managed to cut his flesh. With that data, you then you can find that same X weapon, and seach a book of the story of Y hero, and then you learn that he was like level 10 when he run for his life when he fighted KangGaxx, then you can say if im in that level maybe I should not start this fight jet, or find weapons that are stronger that weapon X, to know you will do some harm. Or that during the fight he stated the obvious so we fell like he is a James bond 60s villain. Something like at the 6 hit of you weapon being ineffective, the fights stops and he states I can’t be harmed by Weapons! And little my little he unfolds his powers to give you a chance to create a strategy.
  10. I think its a close call of Human Barbarian or Fighter depending on the game rules. I love Melee fighters and ill go with my gut on barbarian.
  11. Yes I would like more stretch goals, but only if not clashes with the game schedule. It could be cool, to have some kind of expansion, after the game lunches, or a living world, where game updates are implemented around each month. With new classes and so on, maybe moding tools, etc. A player base funded game needs to keep that mind set and build on that so we can keep the game growing.
  12. Just saying if you will give A Mage melee Weapons and Abilities that Will make him able to stand toe to toe with fighter beeing able to fill his role. Then you can have 4 mages and 2 healers in a party. 2 Mages decicated to Fireballs, 2 Mages dedicated to do a fighters Job, And because having mages is just silly we will keep the clerics.
  13. My problem, with the Mage/warrior, thing is. Game balance, I care about rol, And i dont mind that both can accomplish the same rol what i would mind is if the one what one is better than the other. (this usualy is the mages, kensai/mages, favored Soul in NWN2, etc) This is new MMO territory, where it looks like players like to chose a class and able to do everithing with it, if they go that way. Personally i dont mind, If 6 Rogues are on a party and one 2 heals, 2 try to soak the dame protecting other, and 2 try to kill stuff with AoE stuff. i dont mind. (2 mages, 2 healers, 2 fighters) if instead of a mage Throwing Fireballs, i have a Rogue Trowing Granadas or a Warrior with a hand canon that deal the exact same damage same AoE Then better jet, i can create what ever party i want and have the freedom to have what ever i like because what ever i chose it dosent matter because the only thing it changes is the lore not the gameplay. but still Its all about balance you cant go one road and neglet the other, if you do we dont it all end up beeing kensai/mages. or Fighter, bard,RRD, etc. because there will be that that moment where you say, man why didnt I picked X class, i could be able to do the same damage and have so much more. Thing that you eventualy will do, and then say this is the most fun thing ever. Why because with my Favored Soul, i have a spell that gives me the same AB as a Fighter of my same level and +6 strengh, and many many many more stuff. So in conclution, if Two diferent Classes whant to fill the same rol, Both Classes whave to be balanced so, non of them is better than the other, and comit the same resourses to fill that rol.
  14. Peronaly i would love a hi power setting, but done in such way that HP is a static number that is afecter by consitution. Because, an axe to the head it should kill you on level 1 or on level 100. The idea that i can take 10 axes to the head an still be alive is not something cool. Now, In Game mechanic combat, one has Stamina, And each time you are "Attacked" you try to "Defend" both actions consume stamina, Something that in each combat you always loose, now if the diference is high you land your blow, and you Damage your target, then the armor comes into place with damage reduction. So A warrior That faces 100 Farmes, will be killed because at the end of the day the 100 Farmers will consume all the Warriors Stamina and he will not be able to Attack or Defend, and even if his armor will Reduce the damage he will still be a hitting bag. If you fight a dragon, Once the Dragon attacks you try to defend and consume a lot o stamina so fighting a dragon is hard. and only if you cant defend you will be actualy hit, and because dragon are realy strong you will be dead most lickly. That system, does not stop bending the rules, of the Axe to the head. For example, you can say that focusing the power of your soul you can create an energy barrier that gives damage reduction so a naked warrior can take an axe to the head and resive no damage what so ever. Like Those Shaoling monks Shows. I have stated this a couple of times, but i still feal the same way
  15. Back to topic. I a person that would love only Objective EXP. I can say this. Yes i have problems, Yes i cant control myself, Yes as soon i know about a game exploit ill use it, even if it ruins my fun, why i dont know. I'm weak. I know its my problem not your problem. I want Objective EXP. so I during my many play troughs will not suffer from the sintom of Man with my party with all fighter i was way ahead of level because i killed so many more monsters. Or man why do i ever bother with Diplomacy with my Mage if i can kill every one and get more XP and loot. Personaly the "cost" of fighting was never a big deal for me not even in BG1 where resting was a pain and geting healed has expencive, personaly i plan my fights ahead, i reload if nesesary, so the cost is little to nothing. For my kind of playstile. I love fighting thats why i love this kind of games, RTS and Turn baced like Jagged Aliance, or X-Com, and so on. Because i prefer fighting as my main way of resloving conflicts in this game, i want not to say even once, man i should have played a group of fighters i would have been more fun and be at hier level by now. I dont want to say "Nice if I stay here wandering some Random mob will come here and if i kill 40 more ill level up". yeah thats not a good way to spend 2 hours of game play. Becuase i have done that in the past. And in retrospective was the lowpoints of the game. Thats why i want Objective baced XP to not feel discuraged to go away from my confort zone and try new things in the game. If with degenerate information i know X charater has some cool loot, most lickly ill engane in that battle to earn it. But i dont want to feel, man playin that other way was so much better than this one. In all terms balance. Expirice balance. And personaly the Safest most unexpencive, clean and fast way to do it, is Just reward the objective acomplished. Of course we They could make a Intricate system of XP, and how much XP this gives and that gives, and if I sneak past X enemy awars That many XP. and so on and so on. But lets say, objective baced XP consumes ONE man 100 hours of programin. And the intricate System cost SAME man 500 hours of programin. That means in the first example that man 400 hours could be spend. doing something else. But i dont work on Obsidian i dont know how much time it takes for all i know it could be the same amount of time, or just a little more. What i do know it i want to feel like every play stile is Viable and by any given moment of the game, 2 players that have done the same amount of content in the game have a grate advantage one over the other.
  16. If thats your cat, cudos man, i love your cat, he is a cute bacement cat! Also Cudos for the Volturno.
  17. I agree. That is why xp for all optional content like sidequests should be removed from the game. Nobody should be rewarded for doing anything, which will make the game just as fun if not more. don't be daft. side content means creating extra objectives for players to finish if they wish. those who are interested in saving every cat from every tree should be able to. those who want to see what happens next in the story don't have to. what does this have to do with combat xp? Take Windspear Hills from BG2. Let's say the main objective (worth 50k XP) was to save the Paladin's boy. Let's say that the paladin also told you that he hated Fiirkaag and wanted to get rid of him from the Hills. That would be an optional objective. You could tell him to leave the hills and never come back (and he'd take his Holy Avenger with him) or you could kill him. That can also net you 5k XP once you get rid of Firrkaag. Where is the issue? E: if you haven't played BG2 you wouldn't realize this, but you can save the boy without killing Fiirkaag. You just side-step the dude. I think he was beeing sarcastic. but even if he was not! Ill say this if they make the game XP free, not Levels no xp. Character progretion comes from the story, at key parts, I would not care!
  18. This. Why should one player who simply sneaks through an area receive the exact same amount of xp as another who fights his way through? Because he played the game in a clever and efficient way? Shall the developers, perhaps, insert a "shoot yourself in the foot" button in the game, and each time you press it, you gain xp for neatly crippling yourself? Also, it's a despicable act to affiliate the obviously superior race of cats with quite stupid viewpoints. Shame on you people. Im with him, the most eficient way to do stuff should give you the better reward. its the more practical and more sane way to do stuff. Think of stories like Lord of the rings, how much time they try to sneak instead of ok, ill go straight and kill everything in my path. Sneaking is more efficient consumes less resourses, so because you where more efficient you gain more EXP. Just as life beeing more Efficient is more rewarding.
  19. So a job you like, dunno whats that. For me thats an oximoron. lol Its those thigs like a dream job, where people could do it even if they dont get payed or get payed realy porly, like those movies where the main character gets that intership to that big company he loves and could do it for free because he loves beeing there. But back you the job you like thing. You need to be payed for that job you like to do because: if you dont get payed to do you would not do it? you would do something else? like another job you dont like, but you get payed, or a diferent carrear? or you would do it anyway because you like it? This are all important Questions.
  20. : Hence people who like their jobs refuse to get paid for it and instead get moneyz by doing side quests. My really needs some rest away from dejenereshoun . Because Playing a game is like a job to you that you dont like. Not something to pass some free time and have a good time. If you tell me, something like: People want to get payed to go to a Party, ill say thats one of a lousy party. People usualy Never Refuse Money, because you can buy stuff with it, like Shelter and food. stuff you need to live in sociedad mi amigo. So is it combat so awefull for you thats is a job to you, Why do you keep playing games, go and keep working its beter for you in the long run.
  21. its grate that we disagree, but what can i say like the old BG2-TOB style where i start small and end up with a big epic story like that. i know its ego stroking, but in a game you are special you cant help it, its the magic of reloading, because you are the main character of the story, you have the heros luck per se, you cant loose a RPG (i have jet to see a RPG where loosing is part of the story, or it counts your looses for later gameplay story evets in a meeningful way), every time you loose you reload or you start again so for the game story you are undefeated, you are that guy in tales of old you are Mishamoto Musashi the traveling Swordsman that by the end of his life was the best in the world. you are Percival seaching for the grial. but enogh of this. So gameplay wise i dont get much what you want, you want to feel normal and have a good story that puts you in the wrong plase at the worng time, but and always surviving favorable odds, if there is a group of badints robing a place i will never enter their emcampnets because there way to many of them? or you want to beat something more chalenging like a Dragon, feat that only a few can say had acomplished, even if the dragon you kill you kill it with a dragon slaying balista weapon, you still survived the odds of geting killed facing a dragon. that alone makes you special, you like it or not, like saying you won a olimpic medal and the say well im not special, i have done what every other person could have done. Its not per se beeing the child of a god or beeing a snowflake but you as the main character are special because at the end of the day you survived and everithing else well didnt, Even if its not about fighting you still robed that Artifact that no one else could. Of back on the question about gameplay, what do you want, all the fights should be small scale, where 2 vs1 is ok but not much than that, where i cant ever be ambushed because we know you dont survive ambushes, usless you are snowflake. So Gameplay wise how do you want to be?
  22. On the contrary: the exploitability and degenerate strategies made it too easy. That's what exploitability and degenerate strategies do. Easy but tedious and boring. Ohhhh, so now the IE games are bad games. Why are you here again? Because you love Skyrim? lol This is getting ridiculous. And god, I can't read your ridiculous messages anymore. I am tired of repeating myself because of your comprehension problems and lack of good argumentation. So now you have started attacking me personally. All I can say is: Combat xp is for those who like combat, it is not the other way around. Why the hell would I want combat xp if I hated combat? Like I said, did you think that up yourself or do you have a 12 year old write your argumentation? Combat in a game that is supposed to be based heavily on tactical and strategical combat will be pointless. Thats it. About the rest: Read the last 20 posts. Very, very slowly.... I can say i LOVE BG games, but they have HORRIBLE GAMEPLAY, yeah i sayed it, the have horrible gameplay. if you know what to do they are easy as pie if you dont and you are kinda lost you are screwed. they are not that fun to just combat, once you know what to do, you kitte, you retreat, and there little more that that actulay, its like a spike learning curve grab a guide read it, and thats it the game lost all his chalenge. i love the game because of the story and the characters just like a love PT, and other grate games, not every game that i love and ejoy is perfect and i love that. thats why i keep playing games to find new stuff i love, they dont need to be peferc even if they are horrible but i can say man this ficture was good i hope they do a better job next time, i think my money was well spend. like Dragon's Dogma, not the best game out there but i think is good game to start a new Exiting IP. And whats wrong if i do like Skyrin its a good game, its a huge game, It takes hours just to go around and looking at the good work many people put creating a world. its not perfet far from it, the combat is a joke, but that dosent make it a good or bad game or somehting not to be proud to play because its just a fun game where i love just to Vagabond around and do what ever i feel like to do when ever i start the game! and the Having Modding tools to make it my game, thats just awesome! SO IF YOU LIKE COMBAT, why is not combat reward enogh you are doing what you want to do thats fight stuff, why do you need a carrot in front of you to do what you like! Why do you need the shiny XP at the end of it. i personaly i have exported max level characters and i have beat games like that, just for the heck of it, one time i played the game and tryed to beat BG2 not leveling past level 10. whats wrong with that, i played 30+ hours without needing the exp.
  23. Ok, guys this is going anywhere, but ill posts again my point of view and experience at my 30. Playing games since I was 4 and being CRPG my favorite kind of game. What I love the most in a cPRG is the STORY, not the combat, not the "character development"(character leveling up), not the good old diablo random loot. But that’s me, I'm a player that had played every cRPG in the last 15 years, well not all but most, and despite me loving the past games the industry moved forward and backwards and to the side. And we as gamers we know what we want, the thing is we all love different things. Because I love playing for the STORY, the characters decisions and the friendships and romances. Because of that I can play bad combat game, I don’t mind at all. Even playing the game many many times, and after the second or third time you play the game only a few games combat is actually fun for me, games like Jagged Alliance 2 turn based combat is fun turn based combat, games like the new Xcom is not as much but is a grate step back to a turn based combat game. Again, for fun combat I say that some times a game like God of War or even a third person shooter like Uncharted are more "fun" that the good old IWD2, and not only that other games like League of Legends and DOTA con teach how to do a fast gameplay for PE. For example, despite not having any tactical combat per se, the MMO style with 4 characters off DA:O was for me not boring. I could play that game and not find the combat boring, it was not the best, it had tons of problems and the AI was bad. But still I like the game. And for the story I played it many times. Or a new MMO style like Guild Wars 2 with only 10 active skills to fight or the Guild Wars 1 Magic the Gathering kind of gameplay pick 8 skills of 100+. So back on topic, PE and XP for killing things, I hope the game has only objective based exp. I personally do not want to need to go back anywhere to fight more monsters to level up a little more to be more prepared for the next fight. I don’t like Random loot. I like hand Crafted loot, you kill that boss you get X item there only one of those so be careful what you do with it, you will not kill a rat a random purple item will be stronger that that hand crafted item you picked from that Boss. Again removing XP for battles makes you focus on the story and that what is important; you can bluff your way out of battle or fight if you enjoy fighting or if you really want to kill that thief boss. For me at the end of the day it’s all about the story. The only thing I don’t what is a metagame, min max punishing game that I need to save before every level up incase I crew up with a perk or feat and I cannot change it for the rest of the game. I want a game that encourage player exploration and testing not guide following, because we all know it 60% of this game playbase will follow a guide how to min max hour characters before starting out fight play trough, and I'm talking about NWN2 **** 3.5 D&D where you don’t know where the heck are you standing and why if I have 19 strength I don’t get a bonus but I have 20 I'm god, kind of ****, that 1 level bard and 10 level RDD for any warrior to get those sweet 8 stench and those other cool stuff. But that’s just me, I want Quest / Objective based Experience a non punishing leveling system, grate story and a combat system that it’s fun, engaging and tactical.
  24. BTW, my martian arts intructor like to practice 1 vs group fights, and in hand to hand combat he kicks my ass and my class asses, its not so much as we have to atack all at the same time its more spycological than that, once you see your buddy geting hit and droping like a sand bag in the flor you cant help it and you doubt and you dont attack. I say in any setting where you can kill a man with one blow, or just take it out of the fight in one blow, a hier level character should be able to take out many lower level guys. For example the old Samurai stories about guys killing 100 mans in one fight by moving and fighting in corridors where most of the fights were 2 vs 1 or 1 vs 1. Or even 300 movie style, its all about strategy. Its all about you are not normal you are the main character of the story, its not some one else is not your childhood friend, its you. you are special belive it or not, by a motive you dont know or you do, its the same. you the main character at the end of the game no one can beat you! plain and simple. you are undefeated. so you are a freak, you are a god, nations should not fear you and should want you to be their weapon. and so on.
