What they don't tell you. They didn't sell that many copies...many of the numbers they are counting are from the free download and trial (which I think only goes to half the first act and level 12? They only actually have somewhere in the range of 1 million to 3 million players that actually are playing (they aren't actually forthright straightforward on the number there...still...1 to 3 million are respectable numbers...even for an MMORPG free to play game).

I have been saying, much to the naysayers, that PC gaming of old, is done. It's gone. Sure, you may have a StarCraft II hit here, or a Diablo III hit there, but overall...no one really plays PC games anymore. They moved to consoles, tablets, and I-wear (Ipods, Iphones, and the like). Why? In my opinion, DRM. DRM killed the PC market overall. The only ones really left standing was Steam...and it's almost exactly for the reasons why he stated (despite my dislike of steam). You have to have a good tradeoff. You can't limit it to only able to play it when and where the publisher dictates, it has to be a convenience to you. Lose the computer, doesn't matter you still have your games via steam logon. DRM stuff which says, not only will we restrict you, but we'll restrict you to a computer and only that computer...or we'll restrict you to online gaming only and when we decide to work on our servers...too bad...that's not convenience. That's the attitudes that killed PC gaming...and that's why almost no one I know in real life anymore plays PC games (I know you guys, but a majority of you I don't know in real life) whereas tons play mobile games, facebook games (I said gaming of old is done...not this new...quick fix gaming), and console games. Kickstarter may breath new life into PC gaming (who knows, it's still a very new and young frontier), we'll see. A few massive restrictions on their supporters in how to play the game...and I think it could kill Kickstarter, or a few guys who get millions and then don't pan out...that could kill it too. But get it where games that we want are being made and we are able to play when, where, and how we want...I could see the entire PC scheme revitalized. But for the new consoles...always on...whoever has that restriction, unless the other guy has it too...just killed their console. If both have it...it's just like he predicts...consoles will go with a whimper instead of a fury.

Is that your mother? By the age if it I'd say it could be your mistress. Wait, wait just a sec. I missed something. Did Morgoth just say his mother was someone's mistress???

Haven't they had those around for a while? I remember in the late 90s/early 00s that there were machines that looked a LOT like that which you could walk (not run, so that's an improvement granted) and you wore these huge glasses or whatever you want to call them, like what you see in the picture there, that were 3d so you could see things up and personal. Not quite the same thing, but even now, we have this bike that hooks up to the TV and you can bike casually and the TV shows it as if you are biking through, or play games such as races or obstacle courses or such. Still, nifty device, but is it really new or simply an upgrade of what we've already had? PS: On the otherhand, they cost a LOT more than the $1000 price point these guys are looking for in relation to the Omni. The first machines I talked about with 3d cost so much that I normally saw them with wandering merchants at carnivals and fairs and such, no normal person could afford them that I knew of. The bike on the otherhand...barely affordable, depending on which one you get. I think they have a REALLY cheap kids one too though, and that is easily affordable...

I did get SC4 and did enjoy it quite a bit. The always online stuff does have something to do with the game quality. However, the big thing to ask is does it ADD anything FOR ME? If the tradeoff is that sometimes it doesn't work because it requires always online, AND does not add anything to me for that trade off, than that's actually a negative gain in my book. In addition, smaller city sizes, and other "features" that seem to detract rather than add are also items which are not improvements, rather the opposite in regards to my interests. Which is why the new version of SC doesn't have any appeal to me. So my statement Could even go further in that EA has NOT actually improved them from my stance, but infact taken away things that are the opposite of that. Why should they have any appeal if they are removing some of the items that appeal to me while the older versions I can still get to work on my PC have those items. What exactly are they trying to appeal... The only appeal I can see is if they worked out with MS to make it so that the older versions wouldn't work with Win8 or any other OS...and so they made it so if you wanted to play any version you had to get the most recent SC. For me, there simply isn't an appeal with the new version. They didn't add anything that made me say...oh yeah... I want that game. TOS MAY have, and when I travel less and have a more stable connection constantly, I may try it now that it appears to be free...but until then, one reason I'm not a MMO guy is that I simply travel too much.

If you didn't like the original, you wouldn't like the updated games. That's the point, they're releasing updated versions of the games to keep cash flowing so they can take chances on other ips I enjoyed SW:KoToR and SimCity. I still play them. EA hasn't released anything that I see as an improvement on them really...though there was the release of the double disk set of SW:KoToR I and II that I got...didn't think that was an EA release though was it? If it was I guess I got something, but their MMO and always online SC aren't improvement in my book, more like...putting more restrictions down without actually enhancing anything other then more restrictions. IMO of course. I'm not an MMO type of guy if you couldn't tell.

A former guildie of mine bought it yesterday. So waiting to hear an opinion from him. Looks like sort of a mix of Red Faction meets all the TPS games of current games

Does anyone else still play the older stuff?

I love the setting for Eclipse Phase, even have all the books they've published for the system thus far, but have never actually gotten to play the system! -
High end graphics are killing the games industry
greylord replied to Bokishi's topic in Computer and Console
The Xbox and Xbox 360 basically are PC's. Always were. the PS3 isn't quite, but it ran linux and you can break it to run like a PC with linux. Not that I would with mine, but it can be done supposedly. -
And none of those old any appeal for me with their new versions. EA is improving them how? Not for me at least on those games that were just listed.

SE IV is pretty awesome. That's the one I initially started on though, never tried III, I do have V however.

New RPG's you've heard of/played/own

I tried WHFRP 3e, hated it. there's not enough defined in it and too MUCH DM fiat in what is or is not. The dice mechanic doesn't fit with the WH ethos in my opinion (though it does work better for the SW:Edge of Empire idea which we have also tried), and to whereas in the older versions there was a way for it to be somewhat transferred directly as characters in WHFB (divide a state by 10, so a WS of 45 becomes a 4, etc) this version really doesn't translate at all to WHFB or anything else. They made up a game, slapped the WH background on it, and called it WHFRP, but in truth it's a totally different game than the old WHFRP. Their choice, but not really a fan of people making up their own games and slapping another name on it so they can sell it since it's bad enough that they couldn't sell it under it's own IP. Which is probably what my real gripe is. The system isn't so bad for the SW system though, fancy way of them making money since you have to buy all new dice to play it though. Right now, more into PF than anything else. -
I absolutely love PF. 3.5 was fun while it lasted, but PF to me, is a different game. It has the same basic framework, but there are some changes which make all the difference in the world. For example, with skills, instead of getting 4x the amount you get per level when you create a character, you get the same amount of skill points at creation as you do at any other time when you advance levels. The difference is when you initially put a point into a class skill, you get an additional +3. This can happen at creation, or any time when you level. This actually is a wonderful idea and great in concept and practice. To truly check out what PF has, check it out here... http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ Paizo is consumer friendly. The feel that you will like what you see enough to offer EVERYTHING in the rules, or just about everything...for free. If you like it, you will then buy it. It's worked for them thus far. Their campaign world is different, but even then they do offer free modules and adventures that you can try out. However, by looking at the link above you can see what PF has and what makes it tick as well as see various differences between it and 3.5 and see if it's enough to intrigue you.

Personally, most of the X-U for SW is junk. Bad novels written quick and dirty from what I've seen. A Lot like the Forgotten Realms novels I read...with some of the same authors even. However, a lot of the SW stuff I simply can't stomach with their expanded universe...so I don't read the Expanded Universe books. If they do the Zahn trilogy...that's cool. But the rest of the stuff...toss it...PLEASE!!!! For every Expanded universe fanboi...there's a hundred of us who don't care about it. We simply want Disney to actually make a good SW movie. Disney does that...it's all good. PS: Avengers, Thor, Ironman, Pirates of Caribbean, Tron Legacy...I think Disney currently has a good thing going with franchise movies right now. If anyone can pull it off I think Disney could.

Play the Force Unleashed... Okay, not really JK4 (JK3 was sort of released as JK academy), but still some force dude with a lightsaber hopping around. I think they started to go downhill after the X-wing Trilogy games were finished. Why couldn't they just give fans what the fans actually wanted...though granted I did love the Old republic 1 and 2 as well as the star wars battlefront series.

I think this was old news. The big question is whether it will be able to be played without being authorized first...aka...simply put the disk in and play...or if you have to put it in, install, authenticate online and then be able to play offline. I suspect it will be the former with the console pressures as they are...but with how Blizz has done other things recently...really hard to tell.

Yeah, that machine (Dungeons & Dragons) ate a whole bunch of my quarters too, that and X-Men vs. Street Fighter. You guys are lucky that your lived in a country that had arcade games like that, due to sanctions certain things were restricted living in South Africa....poor me Well, I'm actually excited about this, used to play that game and have a blast with both of those.

If that is true, all that Sony needs to win this generation console war is allow used games... And of course with this in play, there is absolutely no reason of owning Xbox over PC... Sorry to dampen your excitement, but PS4 probably will require the same. Besides, what's the problem with full installs (faster loading speed, no OD noise) and always-online anyway? It's not an issue among PC gamers so it won't be one among console gamers. Welcome to 2013, consoles. Of course not, that's why PC gaming with the number of games went to hell with fewer PC gamers...and everyone moved to IPAD, Touchpads, and consoles where you don't have to be online to play, but can play anywhere the heck you want to. Just so you know where to reference, the rumor isn't just online...it's ALWAYS ONLINE for the xbox 720 according to the rumor, game won't run if your internet goes down. For example, the guy next door to me, I think he has some sort of pirated site or something. The line goes through his house first and just recently the internet hasn't been working at all. I suspected he was hogging the line with something massive on his d/l scheme, so I went and hit the breaker near his house and like magic...my internet is now working. He's at church. I bet he'll be pissed when he comes back...but then...if I'm right he's probably also operating a massive d/l upload piracy thing too...and hogging the bandwidth for the entire neighborhood which actually peeves me to no end. Just to say...with neighbors like that...you could end up not being able to play any games with an always online system.

As the topic, are you kidding me!!! Thought about getting the game, then started reading the reviews. The game is already going for 39.99 at some places I've visited. If it was going to be this bad and this sloppy, they should have stuck with the Aliens RPG, at least they'd have some sort of story quality and fans from Obs instead of what turned out with this mediocre shooter.

A spiritual succesor to Neverwinter Nights?
greylord replied to Chaz's topic in Computer and Console
I'd say yes also. NWN with toolset and using that to play modules was out of this world stellar. Awesomests ideas ever. Closest anything came to it after was NWN2 with it's toolset. Haven't seen anything since that can come close. As for the OC of NWN...it wasn't bad...but it's nothing I'd write home and brag about. -
I'm not a big fan of Steam...BUT...on this I have to agree with you on Steam over GFWL. ubi has published some stellar games...but they all have had even worse DRM until recently than anyone else out there...which is why I play their games on console.

I was very disappointed by that game. Sorry about that, just thought I'd mention it as I think that may be the closest one will get to DA3 for a while.

Maybe have a character that is more like himself? Or maybe have the others guide him? Good Luck with him. I once had a friend who came and basically got drunk before we were halfway through, at which point he got very out of character. So, we let him play an Ogre so when he got drunk, his character was appropriate...

I can't say I was much into many of the Nintendo offerings. I did get the Namco Museum off of the PSN store (though it didn't have tons of games, it had favs like Galaga and Pacman). I also got the X-men arcade which rocks. I also have a Sega Genesis still...actually two of them in storage...one is a gamble on whether it works or not. It had a 32X attached to it (I think they called it a Genesis Mars) and it got stepped on which made it do all sorts of funky things.
