  1. I don't think Bio is going anywhere....yet. I give them at least one or two more games before decisions would be made. Now people may leave Bio...but going and coming is part of that business in computer games overall. On another note...RPGs are whizzing out on some consoles currently...well...maybe not whizzing out, but there are those being made...and if you add the d/l ones in the indie scene...PC's aren't doing too badly either on that note. Though some of those are rehashes of older games simply being released for d/l.
  2. Just picked up a bunch of PS2 games so I'll probably kill some times with them. Radiata Stories, Demonstone, Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter and such.

  4. And one more reason why DRM by Ubi is not in the users/buyers best interest. I'm betting their console versions don't have this problem.
  5. Why play a game you don't enjoy? Maybe my attitude will change later in life, but currently I play a game until I don't enjoy it anymore. This happens the most with extra long RPGs, there comes a point where I simply am no longer having fun, at which point I have better things to do. Some I finish, some I don't. I never finished FO3 the original game for example...not have I ever finished an Elder scrolls game. On the otherhand have finished all of Bio's games, and such...but that doesn't mean I'll always do it. Play for fun, and when it's no longer fun...don't play. I didn't like Borderlands either by the way.
  6. If Windows becomes a closed system and steam goes fully linux along with other PC distributors...I'll jump ship completely to Linux also... aka... basically almost just like what you said.... but in my feelings on the issue.
  7. PC requires DRM stuff...so console still wins for me on that portion. However, I think the stiffer competition for the console will be the same thing that I will deliberate about, will I really spend enough time on this new console vs. my Iphone and Ipad type stuff to justify a purchase? I think the console competitions will be with the new Ipad type items people carry rather then the PC. The same thing has slowly happened with the handhelds and the Android/Iphones and I think the smart phones are winning.

Bioware at least tried to do something about it though, which is different then many companies do. I think you are placing your opinions, or even that of the vocal internet minorities, a bit too high here. Both Spore and ME3 are very successful both critically and in sales, which is all that matters to the game companies. Niether was a runaway hit like The Sims, but the word debacle really doesn't fit. My personal opinion? I actually liked the original ending of ME3 to a degree, but I understood where people were coming from. I thought it made sense, was cohesive, and I enjoyed it overall. What I stated didn't actually reflect my opinion, thanks for the accusation. debacles might not affect the current iteration's sales immediately, but eventually they tank the sales so that even if it sales great initially, it has no long standing in sales (which is why you can't find Spore as easily on shelves these as you can some other games that were released even before spore). Spore itself brought more debacle then ME3 in that it brought several class action lawsuits against EA, as well as forcing EA to back down on it's DRM ideas to the point of even releasing (or supposedly) a DRM free model on Steam. Some would say any press, even bad press, is good press, but I tend to disagree.

He had the Sims...and...yeah...that's about it these days...for the past decade. Spore sold well but overall was a debacle...and his new start up...well, creativity isn't the problem...litigation is...and has caused some pretty bad problems.
  11. the Expendables 2 game actually looks like it may possibly be a fun game (or not, movies to games have about as much success as games to movies). Looks like it could be a lot of fun...or it could be absolutely atrocious. On the Vivendi selling Acti-Bliz front...It could be humorous if the Chinese acquire it. I'd imagine they'd insist on control of Blizzard in that case (I'd say that would be one of the biggest attractions) and then they'd slew it in favor of the gold farmers and others in the Chinese MMO market in order to gain more profits on that side of the coin. I don't think Bliz would have as much independance if that occurred, then again...maybe Bliz would get off it's high horse in piracy paranoia since the chinese are king in that arena, and with chinese leadership find otherways to profit since the chinese already expect a 90% piracy rate on games they sell...they explore "other" options than the always online.

I can't think of a single one off the top of my head. already stated by some. I liked Street Fighter II animated movie and I enjoyed Mortal Kombat. I sort of enjoyed the first tomb raider movie as well.
  13. What exactly do you mean by "spread my DNA"? I believe similar analogies would be something like Doing the dirty with as many girls like John Holmes Creating little Alexanders like Alexander the Great Spreading the love like the Vikings.... etc...etc...etc.... I think that's along the lines he was speaking...I would imagine that paints an even broader picture...if not... well...It's too graphic to really get into here...talk to someone about the birds and the bees...might help understand it a little...

  15. Only if it's possible to get a "perfect" EMS score from the SP game (even if you have to do every dang quest and exploration in the game perfectly, find every last item...etc.) instead of forcing you to play MP. If it is SP possible...I completely agree.
  16. Hey! I use hulu too! Unfortunately the wife still likes her cable...something about PBS and kids... I'm still trying to convince her that we don't need cable or satellite.
  17. First, yes, I did make a Sorceress with a LOT of strength (I don't think they let the Wizard in D3 allocate stats). It enabled her to wear some interesting armor and weapons...and Blizz even had the models and animations in there for the sorceress to have those items on her. I concentrated on other items to help her survive longer if she went melee, and other tweaks. Secondly, I'm not saying D3 is a bad game at all. I actually think it's quite well made as opposed to some others. However, I think there were some mistakes made by Blizzard in regards to who their audience was. They only catered to one group instead of trying to make a game that catered to a larger group, and hence WHY I FEEL they had so many complaints from a lot of people around a variety of topics when it was released and for the first few weeks (and you still hear them coming up). Part of the problem was that they put Jay Wilson in charge, who has been marvelous over his involvement with the online continuation of D2, and who I attribute to some of the good ideas with the online interactivity of D3. I also feel Jay Wilson really didn't know or care much about those who were NOT on the official battle.net though, and hence he as influenced more by the closed battlenet then open battlenet, single player, or the hardcores. Once again, as if it had to be said...IN MY OPINION of course.
  18. I disagree. ONLY the online people were doing the same stuff, and by online I mean the official battle.net players. Everyone else had different builds because on LAN and otherwise, we all wanted to try different things. I've never played HELL in D2, but I had over a dozen, maybe over 2 dozen characters and NONE of them were the same. Different stats, different skill allocations. The problem was that they only took input from the WoW and the official online battle.net players instead of also considering the input from the millions who didn't play strictly on battle.net in their crafting and creation of Diablo 3. There were far more players who did NOT do the cookie cutter idea, and didn't even play on the official battle.net online then those who did. Many of these could care less about the optimal build and such, they were interested in variety and different ideas. I created characters manytimes as hardcore simply for the fun to see how far I could get if I made it with certain skill sets. Thinking everyone created the same character with the same basic skills and stats in D2 is probably one of the first mistakes they created in the D3. They appeased many of their fans who played on Battle.net...but much of the rage you saw was from those who were NOT battle.net players, failing to consider how they played and what they wanted was probably Blizzard's mistake on that front. Counting on them to contribute sales to their RMT and AH were also mistakes, and part of the reason why I think they overestimated how much they would make over D3's lifetime on those portions of the program. These were not people that were inclined to put a whole lot of value over offical non-hacked, non-cheating online experiences in the first place, and were unlikely to be drawn into it even with all the incentive (or the big push Blizz put in D3) to force them to group into online groups for an extended duration over the intial release of the game. IMO of course.
  19. It's already out. LOL I suppose that is self explanatory on how closely I followed the studio. Not really a fan of them myself (as I apparantly just made obvious), but still can feel for the employees that are out looking for jobs.
  20. I can actually see where he's coming from to tell the truth. There are rumors flying, I think something big could be coming down the line with shakeups in Acti-Blizz... Or not... But this is one indicator that something will. Not a good thing...and very sad for the fans of the studio. I don't happen to be a fan of the game developer there, but I can feel for those who are out of work and having to find another job, especially in the dark dearth of the current job market.
  21. The games they made...older one that I actually recalled was Pele. They made a lot of movie and tV knockoff video games such as Beavis and Butthead, Independance Day (I think that was a movie knockoff game), some Simpson's games, The Hulk and The Hulk: Ultimate destruction, The crash games (Crash Bandicoot games such as Crash tag team racing). Most recently they created Prototype. I would imagine this means no Prototype 2.

Vivendi selling Blizzard (or activision-blizzard if you will) http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-29/vivendi-said-to-plan-sale-of-stake-in-activision-blizzard.html Some rumors currently state it's because of Blizzard to a large degree (falling WoW subscriber base, and more so, Diablo 3 which had great initial sales...but the money it was supposed to make off it's online Auction and real money sales are not going to meet goals since the number of players have dropped of soo steeply...just the rumor however so unvalidated). Secondly, some are also stating that Vivendi is anticipating a game crash coming and are getting out before it truly hits hard. Finally, the expectations that some of the franchises with activision are running their course and they are getting out on a high rather than later when the franchises show weakness in sales. It's all rumor thus far, even the article is based off a rumor, so definately non-validated, but pretty big news if true.

  24. Consoles are still king of the hill overall. Handhelds are having their market eaten alive by mobile devices, but overall, despite a decline (which is natural this far along in a console life) sales are actually still rather stellar on the console front for the games that sell well. Most of those games are the ones that many here wouldn't like, but sales are still going pretty good. If they make it so that the games have to be authenticated, or even worse, streamed, I think you can kiss console dominence goodbye however. That's what killed most of the PC game makers (and now almost all mainstream PC games are console clones thanks to the DRM schemes...though the NON-DRM and non mainstream PC games are doing better then ever from what I'm beginning to find out), and it will kill the console game makers as well in all likilhood. Then again, if the console makers do that I think STEAM, which no one has an expectation of having games that you buy and play independant of bieng online (the expectation people have of Sony, Nintendo, and MS), could literally take over and dominate in a market where the console makers were so foolish. I think Sony has already denied rumors that they were doing streaming or the authentication however (which puts them in an ideal spot to kill MS finally...probably exactly why they decided NOT to include that option). Sony has said a lot of things though (remember when they were hacked and some of the things they stated which were later not true?) so whether that's truly their intent or not remains to be seen. Sony has experience already with trying the streaming and authentication thing with their PSP Go, and that was an unmitigated disaster for them. That, more than fans stating their dislike of it, probably has more influence on their decisions than anything else. Mainstream PC gaming is more MMO's these days anyways for games exclusive to the PC (though if Blizz puts D3 on console, that may change the landscape). It's either indie and small time for PC gamers, or console ports otherwise. So, I think a STEAM console could suceed wildly if the other console makers go with streaming or authentication. I think STEAM has a better infrastructure for it, and more experience overall...on the otherhand if they decide NOT to go with streaming I don't expect a STEAM console to make it that far except with those who are already steam lovers...and they already have their PC's....so why go console?
