Order to Play the Game Through?
Rosveen replied to B_Dubb_B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I was under impression that act 1 ends with the "Never Far From The Queen" quest, when you enter the Temple of Woedica from from Defiance Bay Catacombs. And thought that act 2 starts with "Undying Heritage". That's how IGN playthrough guide notes it at least. But there is no message, no popup that would write "tada, you have entered act 2". Update: I just reached Defiance Bay with my new character. When you walk through the gates, there's a screen with a description of the city read by the narrator. According to my next savefile notes, that is the beginning of Act 2. Never Far From the Queen appears to carry over between acts. Not that it matters, anyway. -
Third Expansion

I have absolutely nothing against a pirate/naval setting, but from your description that game belongs to a different genre than PoE. Could be a fun spin-off, but definitely not a sequel. -

Doesn't Act 2 start when you enter Defiance Bay? -
Third Expansion

Should I? I'm one of the strange people who prefer low level campaigns. -
The game ends when you finish the main story. You have to complete all side adventures, including White March, before the point of no return (you'll know when it happens). However, it's implied that some time passes between WM part 1 and 2, so you can take a break and do other stuff before you return to White March.

No, the argument is "games are patched/rebalanced too often and writers are not knowledgable enough about the games to make printed guides useful." Probably not profitable either, when they directly compete with free(!) online resources. A wiki is more than sufficient for everything you just mentioned you want from a guide. Don't get me wrong, I like physical books too. But the fact remains that day 1 guides are worthless if you care about accurate information and a printed complete guide for PoE isn't even possible yet because the game is still being rebalanced.

Lore question about the races
Rosveen replied to zered's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
They're children of regular people of any race, born with a god's blessing. -
Third Expansion
Rosveen replied to cwi87's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not necessarily. Overly heavy lore exposition isn't for the protagonist, it's for the player new to the setting - and most of it in PoE had to do with the region, the gods and the nature of souls, which won't have to be explained so thoroughly again in the sequel. The Watcher lore I wouldn't call a lore dump, it felt pretty natural. What we probably won't avoid is a bit of a lore dump regarding a new region's history if the sequel takes us out of the Dyrwood, but that has nothing to do with the protagonist themself. -
Third Expansion

I'd like that too. I generally prefer new adventures with new characters (maybe with a few cameos of old favorites if possible) unless the games are designed as one continuous story from the start. I'm not terribly attached to my Watchers. -

I'd back that. All the same, surely they don't have to use a kickstarter again? After the success of POE, someone should be willing to fund them... Yes, someone is: their fans. It worked out pretty well the first time. It's really a matter of weighting the pros and cons of each funding method. How much money do they need for a sequel? Do they even want a traditional publisher? What other avenues might be worth exploring? I wouldn't automatically rule out crowdfunding just because they have other options now - it's not reserved only for start-ups and desperate people, you know. -

Immersion. I hate this word. I always liked the idea of moving away from the necessity of reloads. Failure shouldn't always result in a reload - and I'm not talking only about combat. Save scumming is such a common way of dealing with various RNG-based tasks, I don't like it. However, I don't think ironman mode is the answer. I treat death as a valuable learning experience. I'm not a good enough gamer to figure out every encounter on the first try, I need multiple chances to succeed. If I didn't have them, I simply wouldn't play the game at all. I don't find ironman in story-based RPGs thrilling, I find it frustrating and excessively punishing. People with too much free time on their hands are free to enjoy 15 failed playthroughs of every game, but I'll pass. -

I would vote for Expert mode, but removing AoE ranges is an overkill, so I use custom settings and turn off everything except that. I like difficulty, but not playing blind. -
Why is headgear not enchantable?
Rosveen replied to Gairnulf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Why would anyone transfer an enchant for double the price when they could enchant the regular way for standard price instead? -
How is this game evolving?
Rosveen replied to Kilburn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Play Oblivion as a cautionary tale about how ridiculously broken this kind of scaling can be - and how to do it better, like they attempted (but were not entirely successful) in Skyrim. -
DVD Backer Concerns
Rosveen replied to demonxox's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The DRM-free DVD and the Steam key are two separate copies of the game. There is no licence issue here. -
Is it just me, or is it awkward that he can't spell his (ex-)girlfriend's name?

"We're all human" is a label too - and I don't see us shedding this one any time soon. Labels are good, to an extent. They help us make sense of the world, provide direction and strengthen the feeling of community. If I'm not any [label], then what am I? An apathetic amorphous blob? Black or white isn't all we are, or even the most significant part of who we are, but it's still real. But maybe tearing down labels does help, in that case go ahead and make videos and stuff. I have no clue. I have zero experience with the American brand of racism.

PoE sells 500K units
Rosveen replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
We aren't talking about a bunch of guys in a basement making a game in their free time. We're talking about professionals who develop games for a living. Money is always one of primary concerns. You don't make a profit, you go out of business. Your profits aren't high enough, you have to cut corners in your next project. -

Rosveen replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Oh, I like the Endless Paths. I just think we could cut off a couple of its levels and add a couple more outside areas instead. But it's not a major complaint and I know a lot of people would disagree with me. -

I would support another KS going towards polishing and additional features, but I hope Obsidian is more focused this time and chooses stretch goals they're devoted to developing properly with KS-boosted funding. I don't want to see a repeat of the stronghold or the megadungeon (I mean their quality and role in the game, not the features in themselves. One was underdeveloped, the other used up resources which would be better spent on a few more wilderness areas.) -

People who do this on the Bethesda forums get banned. You're not allowed to post negative things about a Bethesda game on the Bethesda forums. Sound like a nice place?I post negative things about Bethesda games on their forum all the time. Maybe you just need to word them more politely and be less obsessive about them (unlike one of our fellow Obsidian forumites, whose opinions I value but who has a very short fuse, which eventually led to his ban by Bethesda). I'm not going to deny their moderation can be suffocating, but you're taking this accusation way too far.
