don't care =/= don't want I never use arenas. As far as I'm concerned, they can be non-existent. The one in Oblivion was alright because at the end you get to discover the story of the current Grand Champion which was a very interesting lore snippet, but that's about it. I'd rather they devoted their time to something else, but I know people usually want arenas, so... I don't care?

Since nobody answered this one... This Kickstarter ends in 6 days. At that point the amount you pledged will be charged from your credit card and that's more or less the end of it. However, developers usually leave the campaign open until the game is finished - for example, Wasteland 2 was kickstarted in April, but you can still support them through their website. I assume Obsidian will do the same.

I'm really not in the mood to take part in a serious discussion, so this is the only part I'll adress. I'm a $50 backer. I don't feel bad that I'm not getting the expansion, I understand its inclusion is a way to encourage higher pledges (whether it's the best way or not is up to debate) and giving it to everyone is not economical. All money from Kickstarter goes into the main game, so they'll have to make the expansion with their own funds. Mind you, they need a profit, otherwise there'll be no expansion, no sequel and no franchise. So if they give the expansion to everybody, they lose 50k people who'd otherwise pay for it. Not a smart move. Yes, it can be argued that $165 tier is unnecessarily favouring some backers, but... Does it really harm us in any way? I joined this Kickstarter with the intention of helping them make Project Eternity and that's exactly what I did. I signed up for a copy of the game and additional digital goodies - and I'll get them. I'm satisfied. That there will be an expansion and that some backers will get it for free doesn't change my attitude. Let's face it: every backer getting the expansion is not feasible. So to appease you, they'd have to strip the DLC from all tiers. Would we be better for it? Would the Kickstarter be better? To me it looks like "I can't have it, so nobody else will" attitude, not a sign of real concern for the project. As it's been said countless times, Kickstarter is not a store. I helped fund the main game, when it's released I'll happily play it and, if I like it, buy the expansion. I don't want it cheaper. The more money goes to Obsidian, the better.

Well, after unpleasant experiences with modern games I cringe at the word "expansion" or "DLC", no matter the context. But you're right. Technically, Throne of Bhaal was an expansion pack too

For the love of all that's holy, can we get one full game without expansions packs? No, I know we won't, but I can complain, right? Ahem. This needs to be as an add-on pledge too. People won't give up their physical maps, books and boxes just to get an expansion pack which they can buy later anyway (and the next physical tier is $110 away, that's a little too much for Wasteland 2 + expansion pack, don't you think?) Now think about it. You have ~48k people who pledged less than $100. If there's an ounce of economical thought in them, they won't raise their pledge by $65+ for the new rewards - especially not people in the range $20-50, where the majority of backers is located. These are the people whose pledges you want to raise, but you won't achieve it with this update. I'll happily pay for the expansion pack (I still need that Adventurer's Hall...), but I won't triple my pledge to get it... Everybody gets the expansion pack at the same time (6 months after release), but you can pay for it in advance.

Honestly? If you want to give them more money, just do it. Be a true Obsidian Knight and support the game because you believe in it, not because you'll get a shiny name on the wall. Still, anything they can do to encourage new pledges they should do immediately This could include expanding in-game Obsidian Order, giving it a funny storyline or something - it would be about the organization rather than individual names, so it wouldn't conflict with $500 tier SqueakyCat quoted.

Exclusive In-Game Content
Rosveen replied to ddillon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes, but who will decide what's useful and what's not? The pet is important to me; it would help me roleplay a classic wizard with a familiar, or a ranger (depending what kind of pet we get). It might not affect the game in any way, but it changes my character's story - maybe I'll play a loner accompanied only by her loyal animal companion? It's impossible if I don't have access to pets. Of course there's no tragedy if I don't get the pet; like you said, it's not game-breaking, it's a very minor thing really. But still. Ideally, there should be no exclusive content. However, we're talking about Kickstarter here; the whole point is that people receive more goodies for higher pledges. That's why I'm ok with this unspecified in-game item for early bidders and a pet for $50 and up. They have a minor impact on the game, if any at all, and they are a great reward for backers. I also think that exclusives should at some point be available to everyone. There's nothing I hate more than pre-order exclusives that I'll never get! I'm not talking about this in-game item, whatever it is, that all backers get - from the looks of it it's more of a symbol that we can look at and think "Ha! I've been with PE since the very beginning!" than an item that will have a serious purpose. In-game badge, if you have it. I'm not worried, though. It seems that we can mod this game, so pets, weapons and whatnot will soon be on Nexus Add different currencies and this might become a problem for some people. Not because it's extremely expensive - because you're right, it isn't - but it's still more than I paid for, say, Skyrim. I'd have to really believe in Obsidian and Project Eternity to give them this kind of money (fortunately, it so happens that I do digital funpack doesn't hurt either) -
Voiced NPCs
Rosveen replied to Gezzas's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
As a rule, I'm against voice acting in RPGs, especially when it includes the protagonist. However, I like the way it was done in Fallout - only key NPCs are voiced. It worked very well and enhanced the overall experience. I'd be happy if they went this route with Project Eternity. I wouldn't mind if there was no VA at all, though.- 91 replies

Translations
Rosveen replied to jerf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You are respected, every player is. But Obsidian has limited resources and they have to make a choice: more content? More translations? If yes, then which languages? These are difficult decisions and I believe they did the best possible thing: they're going to release tools that the community can use to translate the game themselves into every language imaginable. They are correct. You can cast multiple votes, so the number of voters (828) doesn't equal the number of votes (1117). Percentages are calculated from the second value. -
Now I have a reason to use all these fake accounts I've made over the years :D No, just kidding. I already liked Obsidian's page and my friends are clueless about video games, so I won't be much help now, but good luck nonetheless.

I'm too young to be a Traditionalist, I was a toddler when you played all those old-school games - or I wasn't even born yet. I did, however, enjoy Baldur's Gate, Torment and Fallouts several years later. I also liked Mass Effect and Dragon Age (first one, not the sequel). Does it make me a Biowarian? I'm a student with limited income and have more important expenses than video games, so the most I can donate is $50 (and I haven't done it yet, I still think it wouldn't be the wisest choice right now) - now if this Kickstarter happened three years ago, I wouldn't have been able to pledge even that. Where does it place me on your scale? Does it say anything about me at all, other than describe my financial status? I don't really understand this division. I like both the old games and the new - if I have to choose, I'll take BG over DA any time; but wait, weren't they both developed by Bioware? My favourite type of combat is turn-based and strategic, to the point that when I played Dragon Age I spent more time pausing the game than actually fighting - but I also like in-game romances (if they're done right), something that's apparently frowned upon by the Codexians. Why do I get a feeling none of this matters because the world is not black and white and the majority of people fall somewhere in between?

1. Generally speaking, I'm against multiplayer. Co-op might be acceptable, but it depends on the game - as for Project Eternity, I don't want any form of multiplayer at all. 2. Modding tools - hell yeah! They're my bread an butter. 3. Languages - voted "I don't care" because I'm going to play in English, but I'd love to see them one day. Maybe add them later and let the community help with translations the way it was done with BG:EE?

Should gold have weight?
Rosveen replied to Intoxicated_Ant's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hear, hear. Love for complex economies is my personal quirk. Rolling in gold as soon as I reach level 10 is unacceptable - what I want to see is regional values, banks, and realistic bounties/prizes/etc. With this in mind, I'm all for weighted gold, but I understand why others might not like it, so I'd keep it as a part of hardcore setting. -
Mixed - Fallout style. Add haggling and you have the perfect system. However, it would be interesting if several currencies were included - depending on a region, or rather kingdom - and if you traveled abroad, you had to either exchange your money (bank mechanics? maybe deposits too?) or rely solely on barter.

Achievements
Rosveen replied to buggeer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It does much more than nothing. There's an immersion-breaking pop-up whenever you get an achievement. There's a reason why I play games with as minimalistic HUD as possible - I want to see with my character's eyes, without GPS and text appearing out of nowhere (like "you discovered location X" or "achievement unlocked"). I see no reason to include achievements. The way they are in most games, they're artificial and encourage grinding. People often mention the motivating aspect of achievements, but I'd rather be encouraged by the game itself, not by something out-of-the game. I don't care about flashy badges to show to my friends either. The only way it could work is if achievements are contained withing the game. An unlisted quest, a title you're given. But a lot of it is already covered by a reputation system, so... -
How old is everyone?
Rosveen replied to qstoffe's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
All it takes is a right environment. When people around you practically worship BG2, PS:T etc., you're motivated to play them even if initially they don't appeal to you. It took three separate tries in the span of over a year before I got used to Baldur's Gate, but when I finally did, nothing could keep me away from those games :] I'm 19, my favourite RPG is Morrowind. For the few people who claim TES games aren't RPGs, it would be the Fallout series. Also Betrayal at Krondor, I have a soft spot for this one. Can Deus Ex get an honorable mention? -
Translations
Rosveen replied to jerf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This is an interesting question. I'm Polish, but I usually choose the original language version of games I play, so I don't need a translation. However, I know many people who want to play in their native language whenever it's possible simply because it's more comfortable for them. It's particularly important in a game focusing on dialogue (or text in general) - even if players have a communicative level of English, it doesn't mean they can easily understand more complex texts. Translations help them fully experience the game and enjoy all aspects of it. With this in mind, all I can say is: since they already decided to include translations, they might as well give us a Polish version. I weep when I see games translated by Cenega. Far Cry was a joke, Mass Effect remarkably poor, even Skyrim came out rather bland. I'll take fan translations any day Fun fact: the majority of young people in Poland don't speak Russian. We usually learn English and German and in recent years Spanish has become more popular than Russian. Three, maybe four of my friends would be able to understand a game in Russian (though it's true that virtually everyone can play in English).
