  1. During the same quest, the deity offers you an alternate way of dealing with the issue, does anyone know if it's truly a viable option? IcosahedronXIII. Yes, but you need to pass an Honesty check to make her believe it was truly the will of Wael.
  2. I have no idea because I haven't entered yet (precisely because I thought it's probably a point of no return), but man, that's some serious lack of foresight. Protip: next time move your savefiles to another location instead of deleting them permanently. Can't you still recover them from the Recycle Bin?
  3. RPGs are a niche? Are you a time traveler from the previous century? In terms of sales and expected sales? Yes they are. Check the numbers, they don´t lie. Edit: the point here is, before i need to explain myself in more posts, that RPG´s are NO COD or MWF etc. They are there own niche, and games like PoE, Divinity, BG etc especialy because Publisher don´t want to make them. Because they can´t boost 5m sales in no time. That will never happen. Oh, okay, you meant this specific kind of RPGs. Because I wouldn't call Bioware or Bethesda games niche.
  4. This is a little confusing. It's worded as if all backers were getting the expansion, but it was a separate addon for $20.
  5. Pretty sure the current correct usage would be to say "she". Ah so use the gender they're aiming for and not the one they were born with, makes sense, thank you for the clarification. Edit: Well I know what i'm making for dinner now, this thread has one purpose. If you're talking about transsexuals, yes. But if they're gender fluid, I have no clue what the best pronoun is, you should probably ask the person in question what they prefer.
  6. You called our traditional regional sausage offensive, I feel oppressed. Down with you!
  7. I assume by sneak attack you mean backstab. Sneak attack is actually something different (any attack on vulnerable enemies: hobbled, blinded etc.) No, you can't really utilize it effectively. You can get Shadowing Beyond later, which turns you invisible and allows you to repeat Backstab, but it isn't a strategy you can use consistently. Focusing on debuffing enemies with your rogue and wizard to create sneak attack opportunities works wonders, though.
  8. I'm sorry but that's nonsense. Books (and movies) are not mechanically interactive as a videogame (in the sense that you don't use them by manipulating peripherals, although we could discuse if the physical volume is in itself a peripheral and the book is just the message contained on it, and in that regard the way the physical volume is made could be important), but they are, let's say, cognitively interactive. Meaning that your mind interacts with the things you're perceiving, emotionally and intellectualy; and one of the things that interaction can trigger in your mind is fun; because I think we all will agree that fun is something that's in your mind. So based on that, the process of fun being triggered in the consumer's mind obviously depends on an interaction between the product and the mind, and that's valid for games, books and movies. And again, you only can hope fun to be triggered in your brain, but your money only gives you access to the potentially triggering product, not assures the triggering itself. Agreed. Enjoyment isn't guaranteed, that's why you can't return your Steam game and ask for a refund because "it just wasn't fun." But can you talk about why it wasn't fun? Of course, and this goes for any medium. There are plenty of scathing user reviews of books and movies, you just won't find them on the publisher's website because they don't have anywhere to post them. Go to fan forums, though, and it's a whole different story. Movie adaptations are the funniest thing, so many get the status of "no, we don't talk about it here, this never happened." :D
  9. I also found Oblivion very boring but I never went to the Bethesda forums to make a thread saying: "The game is soooo booooring? Will that be fixed in the next patch?" That behaviour in people is what I find too entitled. After reading this, I think I should revise my opinion about this thread. It seems you don't have a problem with subjective criticism in general, but specifically with strong opinions not backed by any explanation whatsoever. As for Oblivion, I wasn't on Bethesda forum back then, but I sure am glad somebody complained about it because if I had to suffer through that ****ed up level scaling in Skyrim too, I'd start flipping tables.
  10. I don't disagree with the general premise of your post, but I think it is too harsh. It's true that "privileged" (bleh, I hate this word) people often don't even notice things that are problematic for others, but it doesn't mean they should stay out of the discussion altogether. If you want to be understood and accepted, you won't achieve it by refusing to engage in conversation with the other side. As far as I'm concerned, all opinions are welcome as long as people are willing to listen to each other.
  11. Force of habit, I've been compulsively reading everything I can get my hands on since I was 4. I like limited VO, though. Not full, because it inevitably means dialogue won't be as complex as it could be (especially if the main character is voiced), but some VO given to important NPCs helps define their character and makes them more memorable. Pillars' main problem is inconsistency, sometimes the first sentence is voiced, the second isn't and then the rest is again. This should be avoided. Well, and descriptive text is an issue, but I don't think it can be easily fixed short of using a narrator to read the descriptions, and that probably isn't financially viable.
  12. If you're playing on easy or normal, any setup will work, just choose one frontliner to engage enemies and keep them away from your squishier party members. I see you already have that in your main character, so you're free to choose whatever companions you like. Take the pre-made NPCs so you have someone to talk to.
  13. This is hilarious coming from someone with 50 posts, but still... I wasn't aware that only lifelong Obsidian fans were allowed to voice their opinions. Gee, I even thought Obsidian wanted to attract new players. It's a video game, gameplay is hugely important. Pointing out its flaws will help make the expansion and/or the sequel better, isn't it desirable for all of us? Sure, sometimes people overreact or expect this game to be something it was never meant to be, but often their complaints are valid and useful, it all depends on how it's presented. Looking at your examples, "the game's too hard" doesn't say much, but if you describe specific encounters you have problems with, other people can help you learn new tactics to overcome it or maybe agree this part wasn't very well-designed. Of course there's not such thing, a dislike will always be subjective, but a critic must be based on objective, proven arguments, not on subjective feelings. For example, I'd never make a thread in the techsupport subforum based on what I subjectively dislike, but only when I observe a dissonance between how a system is intended to work and how's working (aka bugs); and people are making those threads. What do you do when you dislike the way the system was intended to work? What if the intended system is inherently flawed? Do you ignore it, shelve the game and go play something else - or do you talk about it on the forum, figuring out how it could be improved and made more fun? Speaking of fun, isn't it the goal of most video games, but also something deeply subjective? Look at the stronghold: it works pretty much exactly how it was designed, but it's terribly boring. We need to talk about such things.
  14. Lol, it's a spear? I was wondering. I'm a benevolent creature, I let that egg go (which was kinda sad, all that fun buildup for a quest I never completed). Now I'm glad I made that choice because nobody in my team uses spears.
  15. Because people with zero self-control cry on the forums that if it's there, they must use it, they just must!
  16. Not really. They have a bit different mechanics, as an experienced player of IE games I still had a lot to learn when I started Pillars, and obviously the stories aren't connected, so I think it doesn't matter in what order you play them. Pillars is a good start because you can immediately jump into it, whereas for the others you'd probably want to install a few mods beforehand, like Widescreen, the Fixpacks and Trilogy for Baldur's Gate. Unless you have the Enhanced Editions, of course. Early game in Pillars is quite challenging, so just leave tooltips on to make sure you understand the combat. Have fun.
  17. How is this watermark even DRM? It doesn't stop me from sharing the file, literally the only thing it does is obstruct my view of a text I paid for. Who thought this was a good idea?
  18. The game isn't connected to the internet, it can't autoupdate on its own unless Obsidian adds an online component and you can bet people would be angry about it. Some of us actually like our games totally offline. The Steam version is for people who like autoupdates. Actually, GOG is developing its Galaxy client which works similarly to Steam in the game management department, including autoupdates, but is still completely optional, so if you prefer to download files manually, you'll be able to.
  19. Then just let me set up up to 6 different traps at a time, but with any character, so I can still have my trap girl instead of constantly swiching characters and their quickslots.
  20. It's like they designed them around attribute names, not what the attributes actually do.
  21. If I could do a wholly (or almost wholly) pacifistic playthrough, I would. But I'd have to skip most quests and that's just no fun.
  22. Do you have the guidebook? It answers most of your questions and is a great source of information - most of which can be learned by playing the game, but it's nice to have it all in one place for reference and further reading. How kith races see each other is up to the individual and certainly varies between nations and cultures. Aside from Eir Glanfath you mentioned, there's also Aedyr, born of a merger between human and elven kingdoms, where nowadays there are no significant cultural differences between humans and elves. As for the tribes of Eir Glanfath, they consist of about the same number of elves and orlans (40% vs. 45%). You're right, it is quite interesting because they're the longest and the shortest living races, respectively. I can't say much about their society because I just reached Twin Elms today, so I haven't had time to properly dive into local issues. However, as everywhere else, souls are important and anamfatha are chosen based on their soul heritage. For example, there's a quest involving the Three-Tusk Staelgar leader frustrated because none of his children were deemed worthy of being his successor. With souls able to be reborn into pretty much anyone, I suspect this way of appointing leaders may have unexpected results sometimes. Racially, it's possible that each tribe consist mostly of one race - which makes sense from the reproduction perspective - but of course there are exceptions like the mixed tribed of Twice-Split Arrows. And in fact, souls are volatile. They decay over time, they can split so several people can carry shards of one older soul, they can even be reborn into animals. You should do Sagani's quest to learn more about reincarnation. Also the Knights of the Crucible, who accept only candidates carrying souls of heroes of old. In this world soul origin is often more important than your current position.
  23. 4 Acts, but the second seems to be the longest and the fourth is very short. Dropping off after the beginning is normal in games, but keep in mind that Pillars has been out only for a week. Yes, it's Easter, so many people have more time to play - but others spend this time with family. In my country Easter commonly means spending two days sitting at a table. I finished Act 2 yesterday, I'm not surprised others aren't there yet.
