GotY potential?
kenup replied to NateOwns's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
GotY of our hearts! Doesn't need to be GotY in any paid formal list, as long as it's good and people interested, recognize it. -
So you rather not want options? Or you want amnesia again so you wont have to bother with the PC having a history? Where the heck did I say that? I DO want options. What I don't want is a forced guilt/bloodthirsty situation with flavours, instead of actual different choices, which also can be repeating, due to the problem the OP brought up.

OE doesn't make things any more difficult than what they are. KS just doesn't have an add-on concept outside of established tiers. And what you suggest is like giving to charity, then telling them to use that money to buy you something. Add-ons are not selectable because KS is not dynamic, but that doesn't stop them from being rewards. Either give 8 extra bucks, without using them to gain something -other than personal fulfilment for supporting a good developer- and join the order, or don't. It's that simple.

You're talking about banter. This is not an issue the IE games because those are text-based requiring manual input from the player, and are not full "real-time cinema" voice-over. Yet another point against Dragon Age. I expect PE dialogic content to follow the IE model in this regard. I wouldn't be against a dialogue log though. Many games even outside the IE ones, had it once. Heck even DAO had it, I think. Much better than the quest markers/repeated dialogue sessions.

Who's it? The kickstarter system? You can choose a tier independently of how much you pledge. And it doesn't support add-ons, so off course it doesn't recognize those. But even with that, the add on still counts as a reward, so my guess would be no. The only thing that recognizes it is you. Unless you want to lie about it.

Languages in PE, how are they made?
kenup replied to Merlkir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No. The only thing that was good for, was to make your ears bleed after hearing it for the 100th time... in the same conversation. Same went for aliens in both Kotor games. In gameworld names, nouns etc should be consistent though and not just random syllables put together. -
Love your suggestion OP. There is another problem with KotOR 2 dialogue, that could be considered a bastard child of this and forced duality of choices about "someone's" past. That is especially prevalent with the Handmaiden and Disciple. My only choices about Malachor V are to a) feel guilt b)feel guild but not wanting to discuss it c) Love the slaughter that took place d) "You weren't there! You'll never understand" the enjoyment/guilt I got out of it; and thank god for the e)I've got to go option(though it still sounds like option b). Very rarely can you be apathetic about things in this game. Kreia and random cutscenes, may be a bigger problem at times though The above is also an example of a failed alignment system. Hopefully these won't be a problem with PE.

Screenshot... what ya'll think
kenup replied to chisled2bone's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It was pretty amazing, for a WIP especially. At first sight, I thought it was a photograph , without looking at details. Later I noticed the statues are seemingly anorexic, well at least one is, and somebody has removed part of their abdomen. -
What I would like to know is, if we can temper with the "rewards" after the KS campaign is over. For example, one might not want seventy hundred gajillion digital copies of the game, or the beta access that much but could exchange [some of] them or it for another add-on of equal value.

Wow, the screenshot is awesome! I noticed that the statues seem to have a hole on their stomachs, whose temple it is I wonder... Really liked the lore tidbids, Almanac and Big City updates as well.

Josh Sawyer VGRevolution Interview
kenup replied to C2B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Lol at the PvP question! That's very interesting, sounds promising. Would also be interesting if we had a companion specific to some background(s), or get one of the default/established ones earlier. -
Well to be fair, even in MotB the only reason Kelemvor is out of your league, is that you are in his realm. In neutral ground him and other gods are probably screwed. The evil ending out rightly says the KC killed many gods(and it even suggests it wasn't one on one). I do not like comic superheroes because, like superman, they just born/wake up one day with all their powers. As long as you have to "sweat" for it, I don't see what the problem is, with becoming powerful. In fact, I think it's ridiculous to want to play an RPG with magic and not wanting to reach a high point after 10, 20 levels or whatever. And off course, everything should make sense within the limits of the world and plot.

And less than 10k for the Cipher class! -
Hahahahaha!!!! That's rich! Most people can't control themselves. Now I can (most of the time anyway). But I still hate the existence of that flaw. Yes, I hate it. It impacts me because it exists. Get it now? I AM worse off because of it, just like you are "worse off" if it isn't there. Then you, and anyone who can't control themselves(me included in some cases), should just try to control their save scumming. What is the point of resisting to do something that isn't available? There is no point in limiting save functions, if there isn't some actual limiter(memory, self-imposed challenge, roguelike, dead is dead playthroughs), If you are playing the game wrong, you are playing it wrong, you will learn(or not) eventually. No limitations on saving will change it and there are alternate ways to cheat, if someone uses save-reload as a cheating method. And most importantly saves are there for convenience, because not everyone can wait until the next save point or whatever, they are not gameplay mechanics. And bad game mechanics like completely random skill checks, are not a reason against scumming.
