The big question to ask is your character still considered to be dual wielding after you shoot. I want to go sabre/pistol so much i am embarrassed by it.

how does the penetration mechanic feels like?
DCParry replied to Ancelor's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Are you sure this isn't a function of fighting out of your weight class? Some of the encounters are higher level than the party if you go there first. -
"Some people" not getting it, of course. It's always because of a vocal minority that we can't have nice things or get to keep them, like in this case. Ah yes, the vocal minority. Let me guess, they also sneak into your house at night and molest your house plants, leave the refrigerator partly open, and hide your keys. We need a merchant in the beta selling Straw Men.

Removing non class specific talents was a bad idea

If only you could do this. Oh wait. I think you can. EDIT: MULLLLLLTTTTIBALL Sorry. -
Removing non class specific talents was a bad idea
DCParry replied to Boeroer's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I think we are getting too focused on the distinction between multi and single class. A vast majority of the combinations of the non- flavour skill sets can be acquired through multi-class. The system is different but from my (very limited) experience I think the range is there. I am a big fan of the new focus class builds, and I look forward to playing around with them. -
I have the giddyness. Also, dissenting opinion. I am a big fan of the new class system. I think people have to be open to refining how they view classes in terms of multi vs. universal skills. I love the role play flavour but I think some sub classes need some balancing, as my street tough got eaten, and not a little. Although that could be me being a spaz. I do feel the AI and combat do suffer from some the same problems I had with POE, namely make a tank, grab everyone, and have the rest of the party unload. Wizards are also still made of monster candy. Overall the look and feel is a huge step forward, but I haven't followed a beta update in a while so I didn't have much of a clue of what was going on. I do know that I have fishmen more than beetles now. Oh, as for the comment on language, I live in Singapore, and people do in fact talk like this, so take that for what it is worth ;-) Other than that, I don't have enough for focused feedback, but I am loving the re-living the experience.

Woohoo! We're back! OT: The new wizarding seems fun, but apparently, like POE original flavour, all wizards are made of tasty florescent material that automatically draws all attention from every creature in a 2 mile radius. Seriously, in the first encounter the mercenary wizard died as soon as she lifted her book. If only I could master that level of focus fire.

Again, a lot of people seem to be concerned about how others are playing. If a "bad player" [how are we to measure players? how fast they complete the game? how thorough their play through? Do we get grades now?] dies a 100 times on story mode, then why shouldn't they get extra stat points? And what is this nonsense about pretending? I can go in right now and activate the console and do whatever I want. Why do you care? Does it hurt your immersion? Send me your address and I will mail you a bucket of water to dunk you head in, that always help me immerse myself. You are required to do nothing. Nothing at all. This is not an mmo, or a coop game, or thank the gods, any sort of multiplayer.

I was hoping we could start getting the backer updates posted in the announcement section of the forums. I know that we can just pop over to the funding site and it is just a click away, but I do like my info consolidated. As far as I can tell nothing is backer only or behind any sort of wall over at Fig so there is no danger of leaking info to the plebians non-backers (/sarcasm).

Most of us won't finish the game even once. And a lot of those tho will won't ever start another playthrough. I know many people here don't believe that but that's the reality. Just have a look at the Steam statistics if you don't believe me... You really don't get the difference between choice&consequence within a single playthrough and certain stuff that is only available for a different playthrough if I make certain things in the first one? Apples and oranges, mate. Well, I don't. I will move forward with the assumption your objection was made in good faith and answer it with the most likely scenario. As a few posters have mentioned, online connectivity will most likely not be required for this feature. There are many games that track achievements internally for unlocks. I am going to use Mass Effect 1 as an example, the PC version obviously. (While much of the functionality was ported from consoles, I think it still stands as a good example). Certain achievements (like hit enemies a hundred times with an assault rifle or some other nonsense) would unlock possible bonus skill choices on subsequent playthroughs (like the assault rifle skill on classes that didn't have it such as adept). Fine, so we see how that can work without connectivity. In addition, if you thought this was all nonsense and just wanted Singularity (a super overpowered Adept skill) on your Vanguard, then you go into the INI file and change the settings and viola, you had that as a bonus skill option at character creation. It is not a huge risk to assume that the same will be possible with PoE2, in that you can either change the INI or have a mod that allows said blessings on your first playthrough. I would think any counter argument that this game would be LESS moddable/editable that something like ME1 is a tenuous enough argument not to have answer. EDIT: Some other interesting info from the Fig site comments: Also, RAWR, I am the formatting MASTER! grumble

So Eder not only lost his levels, but he now has selective amnesia, and doesn't remember that the Female Fire Godlike used to be a Male Orlan? There is a reason I mentioned the only game I have ever seen that lets a player take it this far is Saint's Row, and Saint's Row is not exactly the bastion of immersion and rich narrative. Yes, but why would you care? I think all elements should be changeable. There is literally no downside to allowing it. It would impact those who don't change their race and class in no way at all, and it would provide a better experience for those who do want to change it. I find it strange that we shout for and champion the option for a billion pause options and combat toggles, but this seems to be an issue. EDIT: Also, not to be pedantic (oh, who I am kidding, I love being pedantic), we are actually talking about changing race and sex. To my knowledge, gender is not addressed in a particular manner in the game.

This is an interesting question. The Keep Dungeon was fun, the first 4 times. In honor of the sequel and my children finally being able to use the toilet on their own, I have started a new playthrough, and while I am still going through the Temple of Eothas (which I think is great), I am already dreading traversing the megadungeon (especially the ogres). Of course, I could just not do it, but look it. It is just sitting there. Filled with goodies. The shiny, candy like dungeon. Of course, it contains goodies, but also doom. DOOOOOOOOOM. Doomie doom doooooooom. Ahem, sorry.

I can understand being frustrated that the PotD isn't as difficult as you wanted, but I think it is also important to consider the difficulty in making a mode more challenging without having a ripple effect out to the rest of the game. I mean, they could have just added double the extra mobs, but all this does is force people into stricter niche party make up (and while the OP did not have any custom adventurers, he did have GM, and even having a non-ideal cipher is a little bit of a cheat ). There is also zot allotment to consider on the dev side in that how much time should be towards certain aspects if you want a game that is not going to be merely a love letter to the backers (which, as a backer, I think it should not be this at all). Going by Steam statistics (which is all I have to look at it) less than .3% of people have finished PotD. From a time management standpoint, while I am sure JS et al. wanted to spend tons of time on everything, I wonder how responsible it would have been to spend a ton of time perfectly developing the PotD difficulty. Caveat: I say this as someone who beat the game on hard the first time and then tried PotD and stopped at level 9 because it just became tedious to me (and I actually began to feel sorry for Aloth).

How do we re-level the companions? I can't find the option anywhere.
-
Seriously, if you are posting on an game forum on the internet, your time is obviously not that valuable. I have played through twice, and I think I have lost maybe an hour of play time (in the Sanitarium when everyone went aggro; and you thought the inmates were CRAZY!). All the cool kids like to exaggerate how serious the bugs are because the game has been getting such good traction and cool people don't like what is popular.

Frankly, the character you're describing here isn't a joiner, or sure doesn't seem like one. There's a difference between your fully evil psychopath and just being plain ol' greedy, for example. The kind of character you're describing is probably someone even a lot of "evil" PC's wouldn't want around. He sounds like a perpetual loose cannon or a rabid dog that needs to be put down, rather than anyone you'd actually be willing to risk letting into your party. I think that it's entirely possible to create an "evil" NPC that's nowhere near that extreme and still be what most people would see as evil. But you see, we already have that kind of character. We have Durance. He is a completely reprehensible human being. Aloth himself can come across as something less than a shining example of humanity (elfanity, whatever). All your companions have more then the usual level of blood thirstiness (except Eder, and he is just adorable) , so I am not sure what people want in terms of their "evil" companion.
-
I think the devs should give people what they want here. A fully evil psychopath. Then, the first time you rest, he or she guts you in your sleep. Or, the first time you equip an item they want, they demand it or attack you. Or, they assault the healer in the party because they were looking at them funny. Or, you run low on finds once and aren't able to pay them. Or, in the big final fight, you find your enemy has bribed them. And none of this you have won their loyalty crap and they decide not to sabotage you and walk off all noble and principled in the distance. They have been pissing in your wine skin, broke all your arrows, wiped poo all over Aloth's grimior and then stab you in throat. Again, this is the same argument had about being a complete psychopath. People who claim they want an evil companion, by which they mean something of sociopath (which I don't understand, technically your entire party borders on the mentally deranged and you slaughter your way along most of the game quite merrily) don't really because their game would be short, unless you want to play the entirety of acts 2 and 3 strapped to a bed in a cabin in the woods being slowly tortured to death by that really cool and edgy evil companion you picked up because they have developed a somewhat unhealthy (for you at least) obsession with you.

PoE - Sales figures STEAM
DCParry replied to BillyCorgan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Because people are sick of them. Anyway, PoE is still in the top Ten on Steam, that includes a new BIG release and a big sale on south park and some youtube deal with gtaV maybe, so far it´s doing goog. I would say let Obsidian come out when they are ready to say the sales and what they can do with money. Speculating is fun, but also pointless :D If you are sick of people who care about social justice, you should probably stop supporting Obsidian and their products, as they in fact do care about such things. Don't worry thought, I will buy an extra copy of their games because I do think it is important. -
I have variations on most of the endings. Sagani goes back home and becomes an elder eventually and after she dies another hunter looks for her soul. For Aloth he decides to hunt down and dismantle the remainders of the Leaden Key (but not the **** in Heritage Hill). The thing that got me was Raedric returning from the dead, killing everyone in Gilded Vale, and ruling over a corpse filled ruin. What the hell? What brought that on?
-
So, I just finished at 100 hours, level 12 and all that jazz. As for the ending with the gods and such, I didn't have a problem with that. I think those people who are saying there is no functional difference between gods and super powerful constructs are being willfully obtuse. My problem was, what the hell, grim darkiest of grim dark. I thought I had been fairly completioniest (I stopped with the bounties because they got tedious), but man, I want SOME goods to happen from my involvement. I mean, I didn't particularly like Guilded Vale, but having Raedric come back and rule over the smoking, corpse infested is a bit much. And Heritage hill? Did I miss something that would have stopped life from being quite so ****ty in Defiance Bay? I loved the companion stories, but freaking Dyrford, I hate that place, but apparently that is the place to be afterwards.
