  1. HELL NO! A game can't be everything to everyone. If you want to make a story driven game, make one, if you want to make a dungeon crawler, make another one. Never mind the fact that these concepts tend to appeal to different people, if you try to do both simultaneously, likely neither one will come out terribly well. BG1 did both simultaneously.... and really really well. And there is a such thing as story-driven dungeons, you know. The concepts are neither mutually exclusive, nor do they have a history of polarizing the fanbase. It really didn't. It had some of the most shallow character interaction and little narrative choice within 90's and early 2000's RPGs. BG2 was an exponential improvement in this regard, but it lost some of the exploration in BG1. But if given the choice, i would choose in-depth character and narrative choices 10x over more exploration. There's a reason i could never get into the Elder Scrolls series.
  2. I'd like to have a zoomable camera as done in DAO, but first person would suck. Isometric is crucial for party based combat.
  3. Then i would not buy the game. Pacing a main plot is virtually impossible when you have one mandatory, big ass, 10 hour long dungeon right in the middle. It would quite honestly ruin the entire game for me.
  4. Maybe if stills were added to it. Just having your character stand there would be a detriment to the story being told. A few nice stills added in to give a general visual vibe to what is being said would imo be the least i'd expect from such a sequence.
  5. What's the point? You identify as the opposite gender of what you were born. Why not make the avatar's gender the one you wish to be/have been changed to. Does it honestly make a difference if the character used to be a chick/dude? Does that seriously change the character's perspective on things?
  6. What is up with this sadistic mindset? You get enjoyment out of bad players being constantly pounded into the ground and then kicked in the nuts by infuriatingly difficult gameplay? How about you just sit in your cubicle and play the game on the "Masochist" setting, and not worry about how others may like to play the game. Believe it or not, many people love RPGs for the stories, setting, characters and immersion. I'd argue it IS what makes an RPG, not the bloody difficulty level.
  7. I've never done any grinding in any Black Isle or Obsidian title before. Is there a reason you feel compelled to grind levels for unused companions? Because you will have unused companions horrendously underlevelled? Having to constantly switch out companions instead of taking who i want based on their personality or personal stake in a particular quest is what i would classify as grinding.
  8. Option 1 or 2. Dear lord, having to grind up all my companions would be a complete nightmare.
  9. For the most part i agree, but i strongly disagree with two of your points. How is being "Drowned" with choice a bad thing? The more dialogue options and story choices, the better. The other was "branching for the sake of branchin". Yeah, that's a really good thing. Branching storylines, no matter where they end up, are always a good thing. Linearity is a bad thing. I disagree with these points so vehemently, that i feel like i have to disagree with your entire post; despite agreeing with most of it.
  10. One very large reason i enjoy RPGs is because of the characters you meet and interact with. Finding out more about them, becoming friends or rivals. Having to imagine all of them would be completely off putting for me. I for one hope Obsidian stay far away from such a mechanic. But this is just my opinion.
  11. I saw it as a chance to regain the moral complexity, immersive setting and player agency of the old games that have not yet been matched in modern RPGs. Not the clunky mechanics and tedious gameplay elements.
  12. I've noticed lots of people here getting boners over the thought of being sadistically punished by the game mechanics of old. I understand and endorse the concept of making the player think more and do more within their game; something only the older games provided. But i do think that bringing back some of the unnecessarily tedious and frankly outdated game mechanics of the 90's would only be a detriment to the game. Accept it or not, but it's factual that many game mechanics and gameplay elements have been improved since the 90's. Yes, many have been stripped of complexity, but it's foolish to say that nothing has improved. So my question is: Do you want a carbon copy the "hardcore" game mechanics of the 90's, or do you want the more complex elements mixed with some modern mechanics and gameplay elements?
  13. Agree. No sex. No politics. No religion. Come to think of it, no choice in any respect what so ever would be best. I vote Butterfly-simulator! But religion, politics and sex would be pivotal within the game's setting. A character's sexual preferences, however, would not be. Unless the game actively tries to make the concept of different sexualities a pivotal theme throughout the game; which in all honesty would be very odd.
  14. Umm, did you miss the very first sentence on the kickstarter page? "Project Eternity is an isometric, party-based RPG set in a new fantasy world developed by Obsidian Entertainment." Note, isometric. You're not going to have a mobile camera. They were ridiculously up front about that. Wasteland 2 is isometric, and it has a mobile camera.
  15. Time sensitive games are the absolute worst. Never do i fell enjoyment, just constant stress. But i'm not worrying, i'm pretty sure Obsidian won't put in time sensitive quests.
  16. Dear god, you find putting aside an hour of game time to slug through the ressurection process thrilling? Jumping in a pool without floaties must give you one hell of an adrenaline rush.
  17. How about no such system? Scrap any kind of morality measurement meter, and just have your companions get butthurt over your choices. Best way to go.
  18. Totally know what you mean. Adding a dynamic camera would absolutely be the sole instigator of a game being dedicated to dressing up your avatar. I mean, what possible other purpose could it serve!? I certainly can't think of one...
  19. Thank god. Turn based combat would have turned me off the game immediately. RTwP is much more engaging and exciting.
  20. Auto-resurrection has been made a staple for a reason. The tediousness one most go through to revive a fallen party member doesn't add anything to the game. Perma death is just a broken mechanic at it's core. A ridiculously small minority would actually continue after having their companions die in combat; the vast majority would just reload. Maybe add a higher penalty to a companions death, but don't make resurrection a chore.
  21. Because it's a game? Good luck finding a video game that is 100% realistic and fun at the same time. And how would enemies having taunt work? Would all your characters suddenly drop their **** and run after the toon that activated taunt? I can't imagine how ridiculously frustrating such a mechanic would be. Lining up a barrage of tactical attacks, only to have them ALL ruined by one silly ability. I'm in favour of a taunt like ability, but i have to say that concept of prejudicial taunt that you suggested looks extremely fascinating.
