  1. You could have gotten it with a lower pledge, sure, but that doesn't mean the higher cost can't be worth it to you for just the game, does it? Way I see it, when I consider the amount of enjoyment I've gotten out of BG2 over the years, $300-odd isn't that unreasonable to me as something to pay for a similar experience in the long term, you know? And this is feeling like it'll have a lot of replayability for me, so I'm pretty happy with my pledge, yeah.
  2. As long as we're on unexpected small things like that, double-clicking an item in your inventory is what splits a stack? Really? Took me five minutes to work that out since I assumed doing so would use the item.
  3. There are places that are quite hard in the biggining, like that bear cave were you first encounter it alone. The 2nd level of Eothas temple (there's were I've left the game last night) has a phantom at the begining that is a bit hard to take down, compared to the other monsters of the preveous dungeons. If someone has not played a combat like this in a while or didn't tried the beta out, could have difficaulties. Also, one may think that an entire region is designed for the level you currently are, but this is not true so this must be explained also. Yeah, personally I heard bear cave and went "screw that, I'll come back later." No shame in leaving a fight for a higher level/more people.
  4. That's odd; I didn't even notice anyone in that fight healing. Can you use a high damage weapon or spell to take him out quickly before he can get any healing off, perhaps?
  5. Ah. Unfortunately it's pretty mandatory; you can't really play this game in real time, at least not right out of the gate or on anything above easy (and possibly not even then, not sure). But I find having the game pause itself whenever one of my people finishes an ability to be sufficient, at least.
  6. Practice definitely helps. I'd also suggest watching the above video from about 20 minutes in for the combat tutorial, yes. Beyond that, you can slow down time in combat with the S key, and I highly recommend turning on a lot of the autopause settings in the game options; at the very least set it to pause after your characters use an ability. I'm not saying combat isn't difficult, but I went from feeling the same way you are to quite happily playing on hard, and I don't think there's been any fight I've needed more than two tries for. My general way of handling difficult fights has been to stealth my tank, sneak up to a group of enemies (or a straggler or two if I can manage to pull them off), then shoot someone in the face with a high damage gun and run back to the group where I've got two priests to buff the party while everyone's still running to us. Beyond that, make sure to check out the cyclopedia as you kill things; if something's got 20-odd DR against most types of damage but only 5 against fire, say, you need to make use of that. You also need to bear in mind, though, that some fights may simply be beyond you at certain points, and go away and come back with more people/higher levels. I'll be vague to avoid spoilers, but in the downstairs area of the first town, I initially went in with two people and was horribly murdered in seconds on my first fight. So I reloaded, left, and came back a level later with two more companions and successfully cleared the place.
  7. More 12 "points" worth than 12 times, I gather; if you click enchant on one of the items and look at the list of possible enchantments, some seem to have higher costs in anvils.
  8. The lurking suspicion that you're going to turn a corner and be horribly murdered, perhaps?
  9. Started on hard, and I've found it fine thus far; had a couple fights I've had to retry, but overall combat's been more a fun challenge than a frustration.
  10. The whole general area has a very BG1 feel, what with the open wilderness areas around the town.
  11. Yes. Absolutely fantastic. But I need to go pass out for about eight hours now before playing again :D
  12. No, unpacking jumped around for me, but took about a half hour total before moving onto updating. It's just my hard drive, I think; took a couple hours to install Wasteland 2 as well after downloading. eta: and now it's moved onto a 1.1 GB update eta2: you know, this is kinda nostalgic as well, really. the excitement of waiting for a new game to arrive (or unlock, as the case may be), followed by an hour or so of watching it install
  13. Pretty sure it's decompressing the game, so no. Patch looks to be 678 MB, incidentally.
  14. I am really jealous of you people whose game unpacked in a decent amount of time. I had a 12 hour estimate here briefly (looking like it'll be around 1/2 hour total).
  15. I like how I chose Steam partly under the assumption that being able to preload meant I would get it faster, too. eta: UPDATING NOW, GOODBYE
  16. A comment on disengagement, perhaps? :D
  17. Just under 5 hours from the time of this post.
  18. All your stuff will be available on the backer portal, regardless of which edition you also get through Steam or GOG. Can you point towards where that has been said by Obsidion? Because I haven't read that anywhere. Er. No, not offhand, but they've definitely confirmed this. Oh, go check the latest backer update in the announcements subforum, it might be somewhere in there.
  19. I'll second the request for Chanter soon too, as a) I'm strongly considering playing one first myself, and b) it's the other new-ish class besides cipher.
  20. Because the strategy guide is in the Royal edition but not the Digital Fun Pack. And there's no "we hope" about it; you'll be able to get your stuff through the backer portal. If you really want the Royal edition on Steam anyway, you can always upgrade. The Kickstarter edition includes additional promised rewards for Kickstarter backers as well.
  21. I highly doubt it, but even if you do, an email to Obsidian's support should get it sorted.
  22. All your stuff will be available on the backer portal, regardless of which edition you also get through Steam or GOG.
  23. There's just an error in the URL; it's here: https://twitter.com/ultrabrilliant/status/581027519161241600
  24. I don't believe we have evidence to say either way if the backers on the forum are reasonably representative of the backers as a whole. But we certainly need to be aware of self-selection bias here, yes. Which is much more likely to be a problem than the numbers involved.
