Boss Battles
Sensuki replied to BasaltineBadger's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I thought the Dragon encounters in The Witcher 2 were boring. The controls and combat were so annoying (roll around in circles dodging and blocking, every fight was defensive) but once you figured them out those battles were so easy. These are fights I liked: Sendai in BG2:ToB - that was really fun, fighting all the different versions of her Malkavion in Icewind Dale was essentially a better Davaeorn, DD'ing around casting AoE spells. Only thing there was you could just hide in an alcove and wait for all the Webs/Cloudkills to go away and he'd just stand there doing nothing. The Idol battle with the dominated Priest/esses of Tempus was awesome as well ... until you figured out that you only needed to buff one character and run past everything and attack the Idol. That kind of made it too easy. The Irenicus battles were fun, but I really didn't enjoy the final ToB battle with Melissan, those Time stops were just plain yawn. Twisted Rune Guarded Compound Guys in the city sewers (Gallachobhair and whatever the other guys names were) Most of the BG1 big fights were memorable but the AI doesn't really scale well with player skill. -
Enemy respawn

This is still under discussion. The following is a remark from Feargus on October 16th in the 'Comments' section of the Kickstarter page: "@Adric The XP for kills thing is still an ongoing discussion here. Our goal is to make this a game that is reminiscent of the IE games and in my mind that does mean XP for kills. We just need to balance with other systems." That wasn't from Feargus I don't think, it was from Darren. -

Brent Knowles, one of the ex-BG2 developers said most of the development was done within a year. http://blog.brentknowles.com/2009/09/17/bioware-brent-year-2-2000-2001/ -
I still had over 100K gold In BG1 at the end of the game after buying all the good items. Then again I often abuse the selling mechanism and make sure I sell stuff at the same time so I get the premium rate. BG2 ... lol.

Hahah I remember them stating that they don't use other people's ideas, that sometimes people are on the same page as them or something someone says 'inspires' certain things etc grain of salt of course. -

Well George R. R. Martin wrote that prologue chapter pretty late on actually. Chapter 1 was the first chapter he wrote. Perhaps leave the opening chapter and come back to it later when you've got a better idea how to do it.

Every forum has one of these, but I don't think I see one here. I don't know if they're generally seen as spam threads where people can up their post count, or if anyone actually pays attention to what anyone else posts, but here goes. What are you listening to ? Miles Davis - So What Not my usual intake of music for sure (I'm more of a metal guy), but I felt like a bit of jazz. Need to get some more New Orleans stuff actually, like a lot of the things I hear on the Treme soundtrack

Volunteer Labor?
Sensuki replied to PsychoBlonde's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Maybe they are currently employed and devote some time after hours to working on the game there are lots of circumstances. Not everyone has a typical 9-5 day job either. InXile Entertainment hired this guy to work on Wasteland 2, for instance. Who knows if he was a Kickstarter backer, perhaps he was. My assumption is that out of the 75,000 people that backed, there would at least be a few people that would be sweet to have involved. For instance we now have "live musicians" for the soundtrack. I'll bet there's a few talented musician backers who play medieval instruments and such, etc. But yeah I understand where you're coming from. I wouldn't want any random person working on the project. -
Volunteer Labor?

I'm sure they already have staff to do that, like they have a staff member that organizes all the interviews for them. I think you may be mistaking the type of volunteers I'm talking about. Definitely not random people. People that are very, very good at what they do. Not everybody that backed the project is going to be a random nobody like me. For instance down the line they might need an Intern Tools Programmer for the game, and let's say one of the backers puts in a resume and happens to be an absolute wizard Unity programmer, but not necessarily someone from the gaming industry. I know a guy from Estonia who's just entered first year university, and he was far better at programming at 16 than anyone in my university course. There's some pretty ridiculous people out there. edit: I'm pretty sure they're paying that South African guy by the way, as a contracter.
