The physical media was confirmed to have no DRM either (I think this was back in September).

revisit: make Steam version not require Steam to be running - confirmed possible
So what's the problem? This is the reason why Obsidian is putting a true DRM-free version on GOG. There's no need to go to extra lengths for the Steam side of things with such an option, especially because the reason why Obsidian prefers Steam to be running is for any achievements if they design into that route. Don't want Steam running? Do the GOG version.

Update #41: D&D: Dwarves and Doors
What I find funny is that Sagani is clearly not a dwarf by that guy's Tolkien-ripped standard, yet Obsidian posted Sagani as the very first concept art specifically to address the trope. I'll play neutral with whatever races/subraces Obsidian builds for PE--I'm far more interested in their lore and cultures anyway.

A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION
Dude, this topic was killed several times over already. OP, do a search, and properly try to read. Here, I'll help you out with one of the threads: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/62601-dialog-mostly-voiced/ PE isn't for you. You're better off playing... any other mindless game out there. I suggest looking at Bioware's current stuff. It's not just about money.

Ugh, it's an animated zombie tumor. I feel nauseated just looking at it. Or maybe that's the flu I was getting over...

Update #41: D&D: Dwarves and Doors
The customizable elements will not show up in the portrait of course. Just like in the IE games you will need to use your imagination. As for the artist that painted the orlan... I can say that it is the same artist that painted the image of Sagani. Rob may/may not reveal the artist in his next update. I'll leave it up to him. Re: Portraiture--fair enough! Re: Artist: YOU. ARE. KILLING. ME. (Edit: Thanks for the answer, though. ) OH WAIT JUST A MINUTE. AGAIN. Hmmm. K. Sagani, the Orlan and.... There was actually one other painted artwork I totally forgot about until just now. Is it Kieran Yanner? (The first individual Sagani and the group action shot Sagani looked different so I thought they were different artists. But "K," you know...)

Update #40: Orlan First Look and Ziets on Pantheon Design
The Orlan painting is signed with a K. I don't see that on the Sagani painting, but the styles are somewhat similar (hair brush strokes, shadows, &c.). What I wonder is: does the Orlan really only have three fingers on his left hand? Yes, the K is intriguing... I assumed the thumb was hidden by perspective. And it's possible that's two fingers bent inward instead of one (there's barely a line). Has anyone mentioned the kilt? I rather like the kilt.

Stretch Goal - hire Justin Sweet to make portraits.
We haven't seen much of the painted artwork from Obsidian's own artist (whoever that is--I asked about it in the #40 thread but haven't gotten an official response yet), but the original Sagani and the Orlan are great and in the vein we'd expect similar to IWD. So I think they're good there, personally. It's one thing to hire Ziets for significant narrative lore content design but another to hire an artist when there are so many and local ones that can do a great job at a fraction of the price--even better if one's already in the stable with good stuff.

Lies, lying in conversation
I liked how [Lie] was presented in PS:T, very intriguing stuff. And yes, let's not forget "white" lies--lying in itself isn't a strict good/evil presentation either. Parents lie to their children all the time to avoid messy situations, to family members to avoid worrying them, so on and so forth. I think there was a quest in DA:O where you had the opportunity to lie or tell the truth about whether a woman's son was still alive, and lying that he was dead was actually the "better" way to go in terms of appeasing both parties and laying their worries to rest, or something. I hope PE's dialogue, perhaps with certain stats or skills or whatever, will allow [Lie] across the spectrum of provocation, self-interest, and protecting others/something (like the peace, etc.).

Josh Sawyer on Miss and Hit
I hope there will be interesting things for "unarmed" combat such that players would be willing to roll the monk class, honestly, and maybe fighter if there's the ability to specialize toward that end to a lesser degree. Maybe every class should have overlapping bell curves of favored weapons? I wouldn't be opposed to specific outright exclusions, I suppose. Reminds me of Morte's teeth. "How lame, he has a biting attack. I mean, he can't even use cool weap---oh, what the heck is this? Dude, no fair, only Morte can use this!" For fist as an actual weapon specialization path, how about doing something with fingers too? Maybe equipping different rings? (Wait, how many rings would we be able to equip? )

Let us corrupt our companions
Since there's no alignment, I'd rather take out the whole "corruption" good/evil bias built into the question and go-- I'd like to be able to change a companion's mind about a belief they might hold dear to their hearts, or an unconscious prejudice they simply assume. Maybe not completely, maybe only fuzz out the edges of a belief and introduce self-doubt, maybe a real honest conversion. And obviously, vice-versa NPC->PC. (The question to always ask when these types of threads pop up is "good/evil to whom?" You have to realize that the word "corrupt" assumes good/evil binary alignment. )

Good vs. Evil rolepplaying rewards
How do people not know the basics about PE for this? Project Eternity won't have alignment. There is no "good" or "evil." Obsidian has already said there will only be a reputation system for various factions, so one player's "evil" will be another's "good" only depending on your alliance choices. No alignment. Kill the simple-minded good/evil concept. http://www.vgrevolution.com/2012/10/interview-with-project-eternitys-josh-sawyer/

Update #39: Non-Core Classes, Cooldowns, Attack Resolution, Damage vs. Armor and a Tileset!
It's actually only one single calculation. The actual equation doesn't really matter as long as the concept is understood and can be applied. But yeah, if all else is equal (which it wouldn't be) it comes down to what you said about "sword < dagger < mace" when considering DT. That was the point though, from the beginning. What mechanics equation do you propose? Val's? I haven't been paying attention to the numbers and shorthand being thrown about, but... with this system, does that mean I should always equip my party with maces/bludgeoning to be on the safe side? (As someone may interpret it.) As for information presentation to the player.... What would it be like, selecting a party member who has a particular weapon equipped, then mousing over enemies and watching their selection circle change color or an icon pop over the avatar heads or require tab-popup? Hmmm.

An Awesome Surprise
<8O... Why did you just break their glorious, well-deserved award?! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?! *violently shakes Hormalakh* . I kid. I know it was supposed to be a whip. Coincidental choice of "crack," given the properties of the award, haha. I want to send them an award! T_T. Maybe I could draw them a well-deserved picture. Of course... then their art department could just be like "Oh, that took you 40 hours? We could've made a better piece of artwork in like 7 seconds, u_u... *shines fingernails on coat breast*" Haha. Seriously, though, guys. I'm glad someone thought of that, and it is VERY well deserved, ^_^. Every ounce of effort that goes into the making of this game is individually appreciated by so many people! 8D I'm waiting for some big-ass fan art reward certificate thinger, especially as more official art gets posted (party members!). It doesn't matter how crappy some homemade thing is--I think anyone would be flattered, right?
