  1. At least turn based was the winner in the vote with Tides of Numenera.
  2. Bear in mind that list isn't exactly cRPG's only e.g. Jagged Alliance is great game classic but cRPG? I don't know what the guys at the codex has been taking, but even the weakest most hyped bioware Action-RPG is better Gameplay wise, JA2 has a lot more in common with RPGs I grew up with (D&D Gold Box games, ect..) than mashing awesome buttons/popping moles behind cover.. Plus it has RPG elements also (stats, character progression,inventories..) I guess if it had some cinematic sex scenes, it would be more worthy ?
  3. Didn't know about slow motion mode in PoE. This will help make the RtwP combat somewhat more bearable for me (as a TB guy) When the game unpaused in the IE games and the action carried out, I couldn't tell wtf was going on, everything was so chaotic. Plus I would have to scroll back in the battle log just to see what just happened exactly, instead of being able to take in everything as it happens , like you can in TB combat.
  4. Why are you posting a lame cinematic trailer for some bs mainstream/AAA game ? I think you're the one that failed.
  5. In PST I ran past a lot of the combat. Can't do that with TB. Sure you can, but why would you want to? The crises don't sound like situations you'd want to wave off. Some of these 'Torment fans' would prob be better off with a visual novel or straight up adventure game, I think.
  6. TB all the way. Give me Gold Box, ToEE, KotC combat over the RtwP crap any day.
  7. You need to buy the new and improved Wasteland and have sex with one of the prostitutes in that game..
  8. Thanks for the kind words (just added Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 )
  9. Just got Alpha Centauri and the Witcher for $2.40
  10. Codex is great. Best info & gaming discussions on the net (especially old school RPGs) I'm not so thin skinned to let a few comments here and there bother me though.
  11. Nice write up here by codexer Gragt about his visit to Larian. http://www.rpgcodex.net/content.php?id=8925
  12. Sad but true. The quality of the Divinity series is really high but it was always more the underdog compared to the much better known D&D classics. I think the move to turn-based is turning some away, too. Not me personally, but just saying. I've seen a lot of comments to that effect in other forums, even from people who've played the previous games. Just as it's bringing in a lot of ppl who's preferred combat systems are turn based, who otherwise might not be interested.
  13. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/grimoire-heralds-of-the-winged-exemplar?website_name=grimoireforever Funny, that link is for a game called "Grimoire", not "Wizardry" (and yeah, I know the history, but Grimoire isn't Wizardry 9, its Grimoire). Really ?

  15. www.pcgamesn.com/indie/no-preconceptions-just-predecessors-larian-studios-swen-vincke-influence-old-school Sven said he always wanted TB, but the s****y publishers...ya know ?
  16. "Whether this combat system relies on phase-based turns, a ‘pause’ system or a third mechanic, the decision will rest with the gamers" Please let it either be turn or phase based Also don't forget about Chaos Chronicles coming out this year too !
  17. Those are actually different creatures though, even though the models might be the same. And that's cool. When someone said 'different colors', i was thinking the exact same creature, just with a different color, in which case I wouldn't be fine with that. (unless it was done very sparsely) I would be all for taking time from certain other aspects of the game to add creature variety. (if it was really weak, as it is in most all modern RPGs)
  18. No you don't. You just have 50 monsters with some different colors. I'm all about having great monster variety. One of the big reasons I was drawn to fantasy and d&d going back to the 80s in the first place. All those crazy monster types, you didn't know what the hell you were gonna run into. And also a huge pet peeve I have concerning modern RPGs (among many other things) the horrible lack of creature variety.
  19. Good post and I'm right there with you, in terms of loving the tactical/turn based gameplay and deeper combat mechanics. I would take ToEE/Gold Box like gameplay in PST over another act ANY DAY. And I can also enjoy a fun real time combat system like Severance or Dark Souls, say. The problem is, they are SO few and far between when it comes to games like these and are much better done in the pure action titles.
  20. Eh, I like the more tactical/chess like combat that turn based gives you. Seeing each characters/creatures actions play out as they happen, instead a chaotic mess with lights flashing across the screen, which leaves my thinking...wtf just happened ? Getting all the feedback as it takes place, instead of having to scroll back in the battle log to find out..wtf just happened? Having the control over my characters and knowing where they're going, instead of relying on pathetic pathfinding/having to pause constantly and babysit/redirect them. Don't get me wrong, there can be crappy TB combat also, but when done right, I'll take it over a RtwP system in a party based RPG any and every day. As far as real time (without pause) action rpgs go, I'm not saying they shouldn't exist and have no place at all, but we have so many games with this type of gameplay anyway, do we really need all these supposed "RPGs" to adopt the the same style of relying on the players twitch skills and reactions over character skills & stats ? And besides, most all of these action RPGs have crap gameplay and aren't nearly as good as true action games anyway (except for the rare exception like Dark Souls, say) It almost feels like the weak RPG mechanics are sort of an excuse for the bad combat and vice versa. The standard of combat isn't very high in action RPGs, but on the other hand there are rarely deep RPG mechanics in action games either. Like VD said..."an action game for casual gamers sold as an RPG! Brilliant! Why brilliant? Well, any complaints about the action elements would be met with "It's an RPG! Duh!", while any complaints about the RPG elements would be met with "It's not your grandpa's RPG with die rolls and skill checks. It's an action game! For next generation! Duh!" It's the lack of diversity and homogenization that has been killing this industry in the first place.
  21. Yea, all these other crpg rulesets have been so outstanding. Lemmie tell you, they've really put d&d to shame.
  22. Those cries were warranted. They should have never abandoned TB combat. Especially for a damn D&D game.
  23. That was a problem with the rest function being too easy to abuse though. It shoulds be more limited to certain areas ( would make the inns more useful and relevant) and have more sever consequences than being awoke by a few gibberlings that are so easily defeated anyway. They should also get some attacks off on you before you even have a chance to do anything if you're awoken from resting outdoors. For the record, I'm for vancian over cooldowns, as I haven't seen/played a cooldown system that was good yet. Not a fan of staring at the little timers/bars instead of focusing on the action at hand. The games usually just devolve into 'press a button whenever it lights up' instead having to plan things out. That being said, maybe they can come up with something better than what's been done before in relation to cooldowns, but idk.
  24. Def want it. Especially in a RtwP game where it's frantic and everything is happening at once. I'd like to know what is going on exactly.
