Kentucky County Clerk still Refuses to issue Gay Marriage License
Leferd replied to BruceVC's topic in Way Off-Topic
It wouldn't be the first time that a political liberal/progressive made a stand against government court order due to personal religious convictions. Exhibit A: The English Saint, Sir Thomas More. -
Kentucky County Clerk still Refuses to issue Gay Marriage License

Please tell me she is not ....surly It's a matter of public record that Davis is a Democrat. She should know, being that she is the County Clerk-Recorder, and thus the custodian of said records. -

Kentucky County Clerk still Refuses to issue Gay Marriage License

Volo. It's her choice that she's going to jail. She even has a get out of jail card. All she has to do is follow a legal court order in her position as a government official. Or resign. -

Seems reasonable to me. From my understanding, isn't jail pretty standard for being in contempt of the court? She can go free anytime. Either step down or issue the licenses. It's her choice if she wants to play the part of the martyr. -
Interstate Commerce? Baseball set the precedence.

A troupe of six Ancient Memory talented chanters packing firearms with multiple overlapping chants of: Come, Come Soft Winds of Death Sure-Handed Ila Nocked Her Arrows with Speed Lo, Their Endless Host, the Harbingers Doom Thick Grew Their Tongues, Stumbling O'er Words and with all six also simultaneously summoning 3 skeletons would be pretty rad.

White March - Why Start Midgame ?
Leferd replied to Black-'s topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Only 8.6% of all Steam PoE users have completed the game? Seems like that's pretty much a more than justifiable reason. That's not counting the (i assume many) players who finished the game but used the console for one reason or another. You dont get the achievement if you do that. But what exactly would be your definition of..."many" -- specifically where in the linear line between 8.6% and 100%? I'm guaranteeing it's nowhere even close as..."most" players as the OP stated, right? -

I think she should follow the law or vacate her office. That would be the sensible approach. -

There's ways of relieving one from office especially for misconduct or abuse of office. But she can't be fired in the normal traditional sense. Gay couples don't even need to go out of state. There are 119 other counties in the state of Kentucky who are under court order to not refuse marriage applicants due to sexual orientation. Lots of businesses post this sign. Usually, it's used to keep the general rabble and troublemakers away. Aside from crazy gun kooks and deranged bigots, most racists will take your money regardless of skin color. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a very powerful law and specifically prohibits places of hospitality from discriminating on the basis of race, gender, religion, or national origin. If someone were to refuse me due to my ethnicity, I'm going to document the incident and call a civil rights attorney. Moving back to Rowan County, Ms. Davis is clearly in the wrong and is not fulfilling her duties as County Clerk. If she claims that she holds no hatred towards gay couples and believes that by exercising her office's duties she will be judged by a higher power as committing mortal sin, the sensible action would be for her to step down. If she doesn't well, it's obvious she's grandstanding and has a martyrdom complex. -

She can't simply be fired. The Rowan County Clerk is an elected position. That said, she's in clear contempt of the court(s) and appropriate action should be taken against her and those in her staff who are refusing a legal court order. Also, there's a lot of unnecessary grandstanding on both sides -- if the couples really want to get married, just apply for the marriage license at another county. -

Going to hold off on PKD and Gibbon for right now. Instead, I'm beginning a re-read of Nate Silver's The Signal and the Noise in anticipation of the upcoming NBA season and the 2016 Election. Figured that I'd need to brush up on his concepts so I'm ready for my smart $$$ bets for extra spending cash. With that, I got my bookmarks set on FiveThirtyEight, Grantland, Cook Political, Sportsbook, the Greek, Bovada, and Paddy Power.

Nope. But that would've been a good question to ask during the Q&A...and one they would probably hypothetically refer to (the conveniently non-present) Feargus... So, can we ask that here instead?

Good panel. Found interesting that Kaz not only designed the logo, but also came up with the name of the game. Also confirmed that Part 2 of the White March will be the last XP. PoE 2 will be next.
