Judge Hades Character
Oerwinde replied to Hurlshort's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'd hope that were true. Given he was Judge hades, could be possibly be the lord of the dead who judges the players during a death and ressurection segment? Or he could be Judge Visceris Hades, a high ranking magistrate of a major city and a major quest giver. -
I say no hard cap, but design the game so you have to be some sort of masochist in search of weak enemies just for that extra bit of xp to get passed what the devs expect to be the level cap.

Let's talk about the map
Oerwinde replied to WDeranged's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
A Palatinate is generally a substate with more autonomy than other substates of the same nation. Could be a name leftover from a greater empire in the past, or this could just be part of a larger nation and we only see a small part. -
I really like D. Storm of Zehir did this somewhat. The NPCs were pretty shallow, but it allowed some of them to be pretty unique. I believe there was two NPCs that were mutually exclusive. One was a cleric of Kelemvor and one was undead. If you raised an undead army you could keep the undead NPC and lost the cleric of Kelemvor, and if you banished the army, you lost the undead guy and could keep the cleric of Kelemvor. I would also like characters to have useful skills outside of combat. For example if you have a player stronghold, a mage NPC could possibly enchant items, a tinker character could create useful tools/weapons, various characters could add unique resources to your stronghold, etc. Or maybe NPCs have certain connections that give you access to areas you couldn't otherwise access.

Tropes that could be avoided
Oerwinde replied to Margaretha's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah, better safe than sorry I think. I actually think some (especially older) JRPGs have done romance decently, however. Like JRPGs in general they were highly scripted, but effective ones were developed slowly and generally told by the small things with an element of real, albeit sometimes somewhat childish, humanity. Lots of room was left for the imagination of the player. I don't think I've ever felt emotionally invested in a WRPG romance and often it's just the opposite--I'm frequently annoyed and distracted by them. Eh. While it's often done wrong, I'm plenty willing to trust Obsidian to handle the "romance" angle. It's a pretty major part of human existence and something that naturally happens when you have a set group of people undergoing adversity together; I wouldn't want to see it gone simply because "a lot of developers" do it poorly. There doesn't even need to be a whole lot of romance options as long as the one or two that are done are done well. If people don't like the options, they don't have to go that path. If there are elves, I'd like to see some that aren't typical fantasy tropes. Have one who thinks Dwarves are awesome, or one that loves technology, or one that owns a logging operation or something. -
Stronghold/PC base

This is something that I like in every RPG its in. Even if its as simple as it was in the Suikoden games where it just upgrades depending on who is recruited. Something akin to Crossroads Keep would be ideal, but with even more depth. -
Judge Hades Character

I would think the Obsidian guys would support this without the cash. -
For a lot of people this is the kind of project we've been waiting for for a while. I'm glad Kickstarter came around to give both you guys an opportunity to do the kind of game you really want to do, and for us to be able to be patrons of the arts we love so much. Congrats on its success so far and looking forward to hearing more about the project.

Tropes that could be avoided

I thought BG2 did romances pretty well, keeping them going beyond sex, and being able to screw them up, each one being completely different, etc. The relationship with Fall From Grace in PST was good too. I don't like the idea of having romances end abruptly and never being able to revisit them though. Missing a single dialogue option ending the tree and missing out on it. My friend did that in DA:O missing out on the Morrigan romance because he said the wrong thing once. -
the mid level part of the BG series was the good part. Around level 12-14, when you had enough power to feel like a badass, but there were still enemies to realistically challenge you. Fighting endless level 25 grunts in throne of bhaal was terrible.

The reason its for PC only is because the team doesn't want to have to dumb it down for consoles. Not saying that console players are dumb, but interface and control options are severely limited due to the gamepad vs keyboard and mouse. Who knows if they might port it to consoles eventually though.

Party Size
Oerwinde replied to oldmanpaco's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I say either allow us to take every party member with us, or have actual in game reasons to leave people behind and have varying party sizes. -
Thats just the issue with continuing with the same character, unless the sequels are designed with powerful opponents in mind. I tend not to like epic level stuff. BG2/Throne of Bhaal annoyed me because of the sheer numbers of high level characters everywhere, so either levels need to be reset, or your character needs to be able to rip through everyone in his path aside from the occaisional powerful boss.

I'm ok with romances as long as they're done well, which they often aren't. Bioware tends to do romances where sleeping with the romance subject is the ultimate goal/reward, where IRL that tends to happen early on in a relationship and is simply a part of it. I say if they can be done right, have them, if not, cut them. -
I'm starting to get turned off of True Blood. After the Guardian got killed slowly while the rest of the vampire leadership looked on without lifting a finger I was like "Ok, shark officially jumped" and I was right, it just gets worse and worse as season 5 goes on.

Not a movie, but I watched the first four episodes of The Newsroom and am enjoying it quite a bit. Really like Jeff Daniel's character.

It was originally supposed to be China invading in order to collect on all the money the US owes them. But they went in and digitally altered and redubbed it to make it a coalition lead by the North Koreans. Because its ok for the North Koreans to be bad guys, but if they made China the bad guys they couldn't release the movie in China and make more money.

Their track record on the direct to video projects hasn't been stellar. They seem to do a lousy one for every good one they do. Movies aren't their strong suit. Get them on board a live action tv series and I'm listening. When they're done Dark Knight Returns they seriously need to get a Batman Beyond movie on the go though.

I guess my issues with Reynolds in GL can be attributed to both Script and Director. Its mostly that he wasn't playing Hal Jordan. He was playing scaredy cat Ryan Reynolds. I actually don't think he'd be a bad Bruce Wayne, but he doesn't have the jaw, demeanor, etc. to be Batman. Might make a decent Nightwing.

I snagged Crusader Kings 2 with Sword of Islam for 12 bucks total as well as the Shogun 2:Total War pack for 20 bucks a couple weeks ago. Money well spent.

From what I understand they're going to launch the DC shared universe with Man of Steel, and they're eyeing Ryan Reynolds as Batman for the rebooted Batman series, with the guy who directed Source Code and Moon directing it. Nothing confirmed, thats just what the studio wants right now reportedly. They don't seem to think that Ryan Reynolds was a part of why Green Lantern tanked, despite him being #2 behind the script for things that sucked about the flick. I say go for MoS, new Batman, and a Wonder Woman movie, then tie those together with a JL movie. I'm guessing adding the other cast members from the current JL comics, Flash, GL, Aquaman, and Cyborg. Then spinoff a WW, Aquaman, and possibly a Flash movie, if they can figure out a way for him to carry his own movie. His villains are actually pretty decent, especially Mirror Master, Captain Cold, and Captain Boomerang, but considering they pretty much just rob stuff, it makes it tough to do a decent movie.

I second that as long as its pre-WW2. Saw Wrath of the Titans. Needed to be longer. Felt rushed. Also, since they're planning a sequel and all the gods are dead. WTF do they plan on doing?

Its been a while since I actually watched Anime. Animation school ruined it for me, all I see is the flaws now. But I was a huge fan of Fushigi Yuugi, Trigun, Golden Boy, Escaflowne and Those Who Hunt Elves. And as much as I hate to do it, I recommend the dubs of Golden Boy and Those Who Hunt Elves. The english voice actor for Golden Boy is magic and there are very few script changes, while Those Who Hunt Elves the english scripts are actually better than the Japanese ones.

Snow White and the Huntsman was a lot better than it looked.
