Keep getting distracted. Some of the later story sequences are absolutely abysmal.

Jason Anderson isn't working on Wasteland 2, he's at Turtle Rock (they're apparently working on a co-op action title, although now that THQ is being sold piece by piece I don't know what will happen to it). He *did* the story draft that they based their work on, though given that he isn't working there and we don't know if he's being consulted, it's difficult to tell whether his vision of Wasteland will match Fargo and the current crew's.

Josh Sawyer on Miss and Hit

I don't think that's a fair representation of either high-level D&D or Wizardry's combat. -

Eurogamer retrospective by Richard Cobbett

A pretty balanced view on the game, though perhaps harsher on the flaws than I would be. -

Weapon jamming depended from the state of repair of your weapons. -
I was just doing these missions where you clear out certain camps/villages of enemies. You gotta kill a handful of them without being noticed or setting off an alarm, otherwise they have reinforcements come in. You don't "fail" if that happens, it just gets more difficult with a dozen bad guys shooting at you rather than the 6 or so that you first have to take out. The sniper rifle with silencer works like a charm, especially since even if they notice one of their comrades down, they sort of look around trying to figure out where you are, giving you time to take them out. My last mission didn't go so well. I unlocked the bow and tried to take back a village using it, but they saw me and a bow isn't very effective when you've got multiple enemies rushing you. I was able to dispatch them after picking up one of their AK-47s, but then a giant friggin' tiger jumped on me and mauled me. I guess it was stalking me when I was sneaking through the bushes. I once completed one of those outpost missions "stealthily" by bombarding it with an RPG-7. Hey, no one noticed because everyone exploded before they could know it was me! Flawless.

I get Josh's reasoning, but I don't get why he wants to remove misses completely. Making it a less likely occurrence surely would accomplish roughly the same goals while also lending more unpredictability and variance to combat? That said, as with all the mechanical changes proposed so far, it's difficult to comment until we actually get to play and see how they coalesce together. The beta is going to be really important in that regard, so hopefully the team is keeping all doors open at this point. -
People backed Ouya enthusiastically despite the project being extremely dodgy, so why not do it again?

Wasn't this posted earlier? Though I think it was hosted on DeviantArt.

I don't think I played enough new games to make a list (there are some, like Grimrock, that I own but I still have to try), but Dishonored and XCOM really impressed me. EDIT: Also, for all its flaws, Dragon's Dogma was really fun.

Would that be something like Skyrim, per se? I'm not sure what you mean, but what I was trying to say is that it seems unlikely to me that the game will be as open as Skyrim. Then again, who knows, it's not like we really have a lot of solid info at this point, THQ is keeping everything close to its chest.

There's plenty of space between totally linear and sandbox. I suspect given the graphical style of the series and the gameplay they went for, it wil fall somewhere in between, with a linear progression and room for exploration and backtracking.

They definitely did some work on it. It never made any financial sense, yes, but they did what they could with the budget they had. There are in-game assets, design docs (not much has leaked to the public unfortunately) and artwork out, so it's not like "no work has been done" can even be said.

I don't know what he's been doing in the last few months, but he's most certainly been working on Fallout Online. The fact that the work didn't pay off and we saw very little of it doesn't really mean he just spent time in the office just playing darts and drinking beers with the Caens.

About Seven Dwarfs by Kevin D. Saunders
WorstUsernameEver replied to C2B's topic in Obsidian General
Seven Dwarves was canned in pre-production from what I understand. They basically had a prototype and barely just started working on it. Also, there are good reasons to even cancel *finished* projects and not distribute them, like protecting a brand from something that would obviously stain it. I'm not saying it was Seven Dwarves' case, it simply appears that the management didn't believe in the project and it's as simple as that. Sucks for Obsidian, but honestly, it's the norm in the videogames industry. * * and I'm pretty sure it's the norm in other industries too, though I'm really only knowledgeable about the videogame one. -
Good grief, I was *hoping* there'd be some hacking involved, but the second updated ended up on the crowdfunding page too. Sigh. It's quite sad to see the Black Isle name resurrected for this.
-
Don't forget to check the Facebook comments! It's like watching a drunkard ranting. Really sad. EDIT: Some of those updates aren't on the fundraiser, so some people are wondering whether the Facebook page has been hacked. The fact that I can't tell is telling, though I don't know whether it's telling about me or their whole campaign..

THQ filing for bankruptcy
WorstUsernameEver replied to C2B's topic in South Park: The Stick of Truth: General Discussion
Can't say I'm surprised though the timing (just before Christmas) caught me a bit off guard. Jason Rubin has a message on this all by the way, and it looks like, at least for the moment, they're moving forward with the development of all games including South Park. EDIT: Also, I can't find the source right now, but apparently some documents included the sales expectations for the titles, and THQ is expecting South Park to sell 3 million copies? That sounds way too much to me, to be honest. -
Dark Souls was a 2011 game.

Kotaku Obsidian Article
WorstUsernameEver replied to C2B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
As far as I'm aware Knights of the Old Republic is more of a timeline rather than a specific storyline, given that it was also used as a title for the comics. Either way, I'm sure a creative writer could come with dozens of potential ideas that still fit the larger canon. Can't say I can see Disney/Lucas being interested right now, though. -
Kotaku Obsidian Article
WorstUsernameEver replied to C2B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The Black Hound was Baldur's Gate III in name only, and got the name after Interplay lost the D&D license (it was originally conceived as a totally separated D&D title). I presume Obsidian's treatment of Baldur's Gate III was meant to be truer to the franchise, in some way or another. -
If I recall correctly the plan is just to have stamina-healing abilities, but to severly limit the ways health can be recouped. To be honest, I'm not really sure how the whole balance is suppose to work until I'll see it implemented. Hopefully they'll have an update concerning that eventually and showing/mentioning some examples, because I'm afraid beta will be way too late to give feedback on the system.
