  1. I used to be able to say AMD (as an underdog to Intel) but I recently read that AMD are so big that they're aiming for 30% of the market now. 30% is not underdog, even if it's not marketleading either.
  2. He really had it coming. People like him doesn't seem to realize that animals does not have human emotions like pity or remorse. Poor guy should have thought of his wife and kids, watched Grizzly Man and realized that it's stupid to fool around with the world's most lethal animals. Now it's obviously too late.

Yeah, but we have a new coach too (Goodbye Quinn, welcome Maurice!). I have more wallow power!!

    NHL

While I would like to say "**** you" to the THN for placing Toronto outside the playoff eight, I'm sorry to say I believe they'll be right. We have an untested new goalie that last season had one of the worst goalie records in the NHL (if not the worst). We have new, slow defensemen that does seem ill-suited for the new, speedy NHL (Gill, I hate you and I haven't even seen you play!!) and we haven't done anything to adress the problems we have up front. Sundin is getting older and they just can't expect him to carry the offensive load year after year without any skilled wingers. I'm going to have to look at this season as a step towards the rebuilding process. Unfortunately the Leafs have (foolishly) traded away a lot of future prospects and picks in the past so the future doesn't look too bright. I'm hoping Steen, Colaiacovo, Wellwood, Stajan, Kronwall, Suglobov, White and Williams get a chance to play and advance to NHL level.
  5. I've killed a few items in my overclocking experimental days. If you're using BIOS overclocking, be extremely careful. For some reason, when you break the BIOS, it's usually extremely difficult to get the item working again. Also, if you use the BIOS to unlock previously locked features on your GPU, the GPU may fail permanently, depending on why the card was locked in the first place. If you're using software to increase clock and memory speeds you're usually safe. If you overclock it heavily, the GPU might get overheated (you'll notice this when your screen goes nuts), but it usually turns itself off (one way or another) before any permanent damage occurs. If you happen to install lots of new fans and overclock your equipment heavily, make sure your PSU is up to the new task. I've burnt two PSU's because they haven't had the specs for the increased wattage.
  6. I'd love to see a new version of the original Pool of Radiance (the Gold Box game) with a better engine. The problem is that I know of no engines that would fit that type of game. 3D first person view in the walk mode (like in the original), isometric in combat and zoomed out in the travel mode (overhead map sort of thing).
  7. I pre-order because it usually means (in Sweden) that you get the game by mail a few days before it is released on store shelves. I'm not worried that Gothic 3 will be sold out (duh), I just like getting it as early as possible. Oh, and after giving them those mighty $50 a few months early that I could have "invested" myself in something else.. I have enough money over to "invest" in other things without having to worry about those $50 worth of potential income.
  8. I'm playing Silent Storm right now. They're based on the same engine: it rocks. I also happened to see the movie: it sucked. Should I trust the engine or the movie?
  9. For the record, finnj
  10. Why are half of the posts in the Gothic 3 thread written by someone who hated Gothic 2 and has no intentions of or interest in getting Gothic 3? Hey, Hades: just get the **** out of the thread already.
  11. I think the common resolution for 24 inch is 1920 x 1200 or something. A bit higher than 1080i and 1080p that is..
  12. There will be a demo for Gothic 3, but it will not be released until after the game has reached store shelves. Piranha Bytes is such a small team (15 people or so!) that they don't have anyone to spare to work on a demo until after the project is completed.
  13. Good news and bad news: Apparently there are only "more than 30" voice actors in the game. The previous preview was wrong. Damn. Oh well. The good news: The Collector's Edition comes with a cloth map, not a paper one, which was stated earlier! Happy news for me, who have preordered the CE version already Another bit of good news: The reason the game runs slow on even SLI systems (which some game sites have reported) is because the key for the debug function and the inventory is the same, so in most previews, they've been running it in debug mode. Apparently that makes the game run at half speed. Edit: Another tidbit of good news: Apparently the controls are now more like Oblivion's than the original Gothic's. I rather liked the controls in Gothic 2, but I can settle for more arcade-like controls too. I'm guessing they want the game to reach a huge audience this time and not be hindered by the controls again.

  16. The performance between the GT and the GTX isn't big enough to warrant the price of the GTX. I think he made the right decision in his choice of the 7900GT. Check out the hardware tests for those two cards. The GT gives around 80% of the performance for around 50% of the price of the GTX. Unless you crank up the resolutions very high that is, which is where the power of the GTX shines through. For a Pentium D system, I think he balanced it well. "Despite that, Nvidia's 256 MB GeForce 7900 GT may be the price/performance leader among all graphics cards currently available, with an index score of 15.58 and an average price of $287.69." Source: http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/08/24/closer_l...lead/page3.html Of course, on a 24 inch monitor.. you'd need two GTX's in SLI to be able to play at the default resolution..
  17. ATI has no problems with video quality that I know of. In fact, most people (including myself) think that ATI generally outputs a better quality picture than Nvidia cards. ATI has, for the last two years or so, had less problems with drivers than Nvidia. The last couple of drivers have been disastruous for Nvidia. I am using a Geforce 7800 myself and I've never had so many bugs as I had these last few months with this card and its drivers (rescaling video, popup bubbles of advertisement, flickering textures in Battlefield 2, corrupted graphics in Tomb Raider: Legend, and so on). I will switch back to ATI once their new generation is released. Edit: A good article on the current state of the GPU war: http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/08/24/closer_l...rformance_lead/ ATI leads Nvidia across the board in price/performance.
  18. Uhm.. A 286 could do DirectX10 with the right emulation software. That still doesn't mean its hardware supports DirectX10. Same with the Xbox 360, it will have to emulate some parts of the DirextX10 specifications. It will be slower, but it will still have the same functionality (probably).
  19. Well, 62 voice actors is a huge improvement from the original Gothic and Gothic 2. I particularly remember that in Gothic 2, they had the same voice for one of the main friends, one of the main enemies and the dragons! I'm usually not that bothered with voice recognition in a game, but in that case they went way too far even for me. At least the voice actor in question was rather good. But yeah, all those names are settlements, villages and towns (and won't show up on the map like that in the game). The game is supposed to be three times bigger than Gothic 2, which was about Oblivion's size I would guess. I bet there are a lot more than 62 characters in the game so 62 voice actors is probably not quite enough. Unfortunately Piranha Bytes is a very small development house, they have only released two games so far (Gothic & Gothic 2), so their budget isn't of Bethesda dimensions.
  20. Books will be rewritten, people will forget, Pluto will cease to exist as a planet in people's minds.
  21. Ohno. Pluto was the only "planet" that was discovered by an american, therefore it was kind of "the american planet". Now America has no planets. A dwarf planet?! How degrading is that? "Your **** isn't big enough to be called a ****, but don't worry about it, we'll just call it a dwarf ****, it's just as good!".
  22. Just a quick necro-post to show a picture of the world map that's been shown at the Leipzig Games Convention earlier today: I think it looks awesome, but that might be because I've preordered the Collector's Edition and know I'll be getting this map to hang on my wall. Unfortunately not cloth, but it'll do. Edit: Added some quick info about the game too: - Gothic 3 offers 550 quests, but only 25 is part of the main storyline. - The hero has 9 attributes which we can improve. - There are 70 perks, divided into 7 types: combat (17), hunting (10), magic (11), forging (5), thieves abilities (11), alchemy (7) and others (6). - Player can become for example master of blade or as a druid transform into some animal.. - To complete main storyline we will need about 50 hours. If player wants to complete all side quests, it will take about 100 hours. - In the game world, we can find about 1000 different items. - 62 speakers dubbed 250.000 lines of dialogue, which makes around 18 hours of speech. Hardware requirements (take these with a pinch of salt): Minimum - CPU 2 GHz, 512MB RAM and 128 MB GFX Card Optimum - CPU 3 GHz, 1024MB RAM and GeForce 6800
