  1. The thing about Morrowind for me is it's culture, after 150 hours (only started it last year) of game and years of lore forum dwelling I still don't understand all the names and religious themes, Oblivion (and Skyrim to a lesser degree) are an open book, something about figuring it all out makes the landscape and architecture more haunting, you develop a more personal connection somehow. Theres a project called OpenMW which is shaping up nicely, it should do away with all the old engine problems that are holding back the modders, you can bet there will be an iPad port one day but Bethesda won't be the ones releasing it.
  2. I've been longing to watch some anime that really absorbs me, it's been years since I've seen something new and exciting so I thought I'd list a few of my likes/hates and see what people recommend. Fullmetal Alchemist - My favourite easy watching kind of anime, traditionally I've been into the darker stuff but this one is a perfect blend of light hearted and sinister, I watch this show (and Brotherhood) every year. Ghost in the Shell - This was an obsession for me a few years back, the movies are great but the series is very close to how I imagine the future will be, I love how it delves into social trends and perversions, like the guy who hired a sex bot so he could view himself having sex with it...through it's eyes Evangelion - There's been quite a lot of "philosophical" anime and this one is about as far as I can go, it walks the line between pretentious bull**** and deeply cool, I love it but I have trouble watching it. Serial Experiments Lain - I watched this one all the way through and constantly wanted to turn it off, don't know why I insisted on finishing it...hoping for some kind of satisfaction, didn't get any though. Elfin Lied - Guilty pleasure, I grew up watching all the sick "Manga" imports in the early 90's and this one hits the spot but it would be complete garbage if you're not into cute anime girls performing a bit of the old ultra violence. Darker Than Black - I wanted to like this one but it suffered from old anime problem of completely falling apart in the third act, so many shows start off being insanely cool, then they start to sag in the middle, very few manage to pull back and deliver a satisfying (or comprehensible) end. Trinity Blood - I try to watch this one now and again but I can't seem to get into it, I have no idea why, it's got good characters and some truly epic scenes. Besides those listed above I generally like Studio Ghibli films, Mononoke, Nausicaa and Howl's Moving Castle are classics, I should add that I'm totally not hardcore, I prefer dubs because I can do other things while I'm watching Thanks.
  3. I'm addicted to sunshafts... Impressive scale Bah, why don't they make worlds like this any more Swoonworthy
  4. Oh, cry me a river. I'm playing the game with Sawyer's mod installed-- my (5 STR) character's max carry weight is 100. And Stimpaks weigh a quarter-pound each! Sawyer's mod makes the DLCs especially murderous at times, I wouldn't want to be without it though.
  5. I grabbed Arkham City minutes before it vanished
  6. Strangely enough I'm really keen to try a bit of pop-a-mole Dubai mass murder, I'll buy it in a future Steam sale, for now I've been playing a freshly modded Morrowind, this is my second run and I'm agonising over which of the great houses to join. So that's what happened to the old sugar tooth... Vivec looking lush. Godrays suit this game so well.
  7. What would Brian Boitano do?
  8. I had similar feelings but in retrospect I enjoyed the challenge, it was indeed a bloody nightmare, can't explain why I look forward to playing it again...
  9. I'm still paying the price for a huge piss up on Sunday, today feels like the actual hangover, yesterday was outright illness, good fun though, I think.
  10. The EU doesn't often make decisions that I agree with but the rental like nature of "buying" downloadable software has been a huge turn off for me, I don't know how it will pan out but I agree with the principle
  11. I just watched Iron Sky and I want more, it was a surprising amount of fun but I was mostly aware what to expect, I also liked the Dr Strangelove references.
  12. My first computer was a half broken ZX Spectrum +2 and I loved it until the day it stopped loading Ghostbusters, some time afterwards my dad bought me an Amiga 500 and I was utterly and entirely converted into a geek, he wanted to make sure I was ready for the future, he was very forward thinking considering the most common employment in my town was mill work back then. I moved over to the PC about five years later, a 286 around 1993, the 486 was in production by then but they cost an absolute bloody fortune, I eventually sold all my Amiga stuff (an upgraded A1200 by then) so I could build a serious PC...a 25mhz 486sx with a Vesa Local Bus graphics card, Doom!!!!
  13. At the time, Shogun 2 only used one of my GPU's and was barely aware of the extra cores in my i7, they've probably patched it up by now but it was so choppy I just gave up, hopefully they will do a better job with Rome, I totally loved the first one back in the day.
  14. Imaginator is a great mod, it's also available for New Vegas, I like it because it only uses effects that are already in the engine and you can tweak them from an in game menu.
  15. Eurogamer give Dawnguard 7/10 but the review reads like a 5, pity.
  16. The latest Double Fine Adventure update is a load of fun, Tim is reading his Grim Fandango notebooks and playing Day of The Tentacle
  17. This one is funny in a tragicomedy kind of way... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFgrB2Wmh5s&feature=player_embedded#! Given what the head of the DEA says, I could jack up some heroin and quite reasonably expect to be no worse off than if I'd smoked cannabis, yay for dogma.
  18. I'm very close to the end of A Game of Thrones, I read three or four chapters a day and then listen to the Boars Gore and Swords podcast, it's the most fun I've had with a book in years, it's going to be hard not to read the whole Ice and Fire series before season 3 airs.
  19. Not playing much at all lately, I'm mostly reading the Game of Thrones books and messing with guitars but I do mean to pick up my NWN2 game and push through to MOTB, I think I'll be turning the combat down to derp level though, it becomes pretty tiring on the hardcore d&d mode and I want a fair chance to get hooked into the story.
  20. I used to love the cartoon as a kid, Cobra Commander's downfall in the feature length cartoon was very memorable, I can't bring myself to watch the movie though, the international black ops style doesn't appeal to me at all.
  21. Yeah Bethesda's insistence on making you head of every guild is getting old, as for Skjor, at least you didn't find his dead body out in the wilderness...sliding around on his back, fighting a bear
  22. I surprised myself by getting 99% above average but I agree with Gorgon, needs to be bigger.
  23. Yeah repetitive voices are always a problem in these games, strangely enough though I never noticed those characters were Claudia Christian, I've seen Bab5 sooo many times.
  24. I'm sitting with a big drunken grin after watching the last two episodes in a row, it was a good ride, my only regret is that it's starting to get light outside.
