  1. For the love of The Gods, will one of you Gold people please invent a magic firearm of some description? Don't forget THE GUNS.
  2. My bad for speed-reading the thread. Clark didn't like Alexander, his (British) boss and was a tool. I am glad Wals agrees. As for Monty, I can imagine why Americans loathe him. He certainly doesn't come across as a sympathetic character and his cautious approach meant he was loved by his men when American generals weren't. Monty: "What's your most important possession?" Tommy Atkins: "My rifle, Sir!" Monty: "No, it's your life. And I'm going to do my best to see you keep it." As a small boy I met veterans of the 8th Army who venerated the man. American generals, new to the game, simply wanted to be done with the war and were happier to pay the blood price. They hadn't had Dunkirk (etc). The best American generals of the war (Bradley springs to mind) were more... human. Patton, for all his genius, was only ever a proper two-star commander, would never be comfortable with the theatre-level of operations. But, in the final analysis, nationality is merely a window on a commonality - Generals are odd. We need them at certain points in our history but dammit I'm glad I could never be one, or even want to be one.
  3. ^ Can someone make a Returning Frost Dart?
  4. I ACCUSE! a general who for me epitomises the vainglorious, cold-hearted megalomaniac who tends to achieve high rank. Mark Clark, inventor of military spin doctors, blatant self-publicist, the man who sacrificed the 36th Texan Division in Italy and the general, in his lust for glory in taking Rome (of no strategic import) threatened to open fire on allied troops and allowed a German division to escape. Of course, he was promoted. Here we see him admiring his work as he polishes his next star.
  5. The word 'Crevice' is extremely disturbing.
  6. Falstaffian-Drunken Master archetype, wise but flawed, drunk but perceptive, violent but regretful.
  7. I agree with your general point, but you have to remember that you can make more money with a successful product without a publisher than with one. So why wouldn't they go for a commercially appealing pitch?
  8. Like the characters, they look like minis or something.
  9. Ain't the way it's designed sadly. I feel your pain, hopefully this can be modded in later.
  10. ^ Level scaling is a relatively new thing, (if that's what you mean) and among a lot of people on these forums, a bad thing. A sort of hand-holding exercise. Dungeon levels used to correlate with character levels in the games upon which P:E is based. That is to say the first dungeon level was for first level characters and the tenth was badass for tenth level characters. Obviously, this was a rule of thumb. But the idea that you have a big, multi-level dungeon that you visit episodically is a long-established fantasy RPG mechanic. Whole campaigns would take place in The Dungeon. The mega-dungeon is a nod to that, and personally I am delighted with everything I've heard about it. It shows that the developers completely understand and respect many of the conventions of the genre. IWD did, too. It's my favourite Black Isle game, and this seems to be a spiritual successor. I'm sure some of the more modern, story-driven and NPC heavy features will exist in the plethora of other areas, such as TWO FRICKIN' ENORMOUS CITIES. But it's good that they've also created a fun-for-the-sake-of-it dungeon.
  11. The whole point of the dungeon should be that you enjoy it at your leisure. As Josh says, maybe you want to do a level or two, or complete the area with the critical path or gear-up for an epic delve. It's something you should be able to come back to now and then. A proper dungeon, in other words, from days of yore. I'm often at variance with some of Sawyer's ideas, but for this alone he is back in my Hero List. You see? You can have the rest of the game for navel-gazing, emo NPCs and ****. This area was made for me!
  12. Frasier and Niles as playable characters. Eddie the dog as a NPC.
  13. I would be astonished if you had to complete the dungeon. Everything the developers have said suggests that they will use it in some way on the critical path, but not *as* the critical path. Which is fair enough. Remember, many of us are ultra-hyped about it. I try to sympathise with dungeon-haters but cannot.
  14. Hopefully it's the game I wrote based on the popular situation comedy 'Frasier,' a game of angst, social-climbing and gentle faux pas amongst Seattle's urban haute bourgeoisie.
  15. Oooooh. A thread full of rich people. Can I be your friend?
  16. A non-violent playthrough where my sexually-baffled dwarf can barter with hand-crafted pieces of sculpture made from living yoghurt. Yeah, I could dig that.
  17. If the world of RPG websites was a festering, maggot-infested scab leaking gangrenous puss, the Codex would be what lay beneath said scab. A Lovecraftian jelly of bile, madness and spite. I quite like it.
  18. Sawyer is merely acknowledging the original role of the dungeon in classic tabletop gaming: a big, forbidding place you'd never tackle in one go. He is showing due respect to some old-skool conventions and I salute him.
  19. This is the most awesome news ever. Nay-sayers should go and romance their Dragon Age characters or something.
  20. Somebody else unhealthily interested in how other people play a (single player) game. If you don't like 'save scumming' (Jesus I hate that term) then don't do it.

  22. I think most people want more NPCs. The selection right now is pretty small. Extra areas... that can wait.
  23. Actually, this doesn't matter. The pledge options are really well set-up and easy to understand. I even had twenty bucks pledged that I forgot about and I was able to order a tee-shirt.
