  1. BTW I grew up with this, it's the first PA story I can remember. It was written by the one and only Terry Nation too. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072572/
  2. @ Oerwinde It was a chaste Brokeback Mountain with zombies. I loved it. It surprised and delighted me because I sympathised with both Shane and Rick's points of view. The inconsistency in their character arc is a minor quibble - Shane's is faster (which given the plot is inevitable) while Rick's is almost too gradual. Give S3 a go. The deterioration of the character's morality is really well done.
  3. Man, I came to The Walking Dead sooo late. When it first came out I watched the first few episodes, loved it, then sort of forgot about it because of other stuff going on in my life. Recently I downloaded the first four seasons on Sky and binged with Mrs. MC (who, it turns out, now loves zombies about five years after they became utterly passée). I'm going to start S4 tonight so please don't spoil me. Or use tags. FWIW, S2 of TWD, and the whole Shane / Rick story was brilliant. And the opening of the first episode of S3 was one of the best pieces of show-don't-tell storytelling I've seen on the TV in a long, long time. So I'm a happy bunny, especially as I've heard there will be a Season 6. And of course, shows like this keep our utterly superior English actors in work. I've also recently finished a book with a sort of post-apocalyptic theme (a sort of 'low apocalypse' in a 'low magic' kinda way) and am finding myself getting really dragged into the genre in a way it never grabbed me before. So with that in mind this thread is an appeal for you to share your favourite PA ideas, pictures, movies, books etc with me in case there's something I should be enjoying but ain't. So, kicking it off.... favourite pulp schlock PA movie, my guilty pleasure?
  4. Monte has fallen. I just had a hot shower. I still don't feel quite right. DA 3 = Gauntlet. Whoda thunkit?
  5. It pains me to say it, but that looks quite... good.
  6. Well, you're also starting at level 5 with 5 characters in the beta. It might be easier with a learning curve, both in terms of level (complexity) and number of characters. Not really. Many people popped their CRPG cherry with BG2, where you start in Château Irenicus with a party of five-six level seven adventurers. If you had a couple of fighters then it was pretty manageable.
  7. ^ It's a good point. Managing six low-medium maintenance characters in an IE game can be surprisingly micro-intensive. Timing attacks, abilities, spells, buffs, potions etc. One of my initial problems with PoE is what I'll call Ability Shock. Five characters, all of whom appear to have the same level of powaz as a medium level IE game spellcaster. It can be a handful to manage, not least with speed of combat, dog-piling etc. I'd like one or two low maintenance classes at least, personally. A nice selection of low-maintenance modal, and lots of passives can still allow you to customise that character.
  8. I self-identify as a Lesbian Jedi on all official correspondence. But that's enough about my weekend. Let's talk about yours.
  9. Considering the movie is based on the autobiography of a guy who has been proven to have lied in said book, I wouldn't expect too much authenticity. Are you talking about the Jesse Ventura thing? That all got hellish messy. Well.. there's that, and more. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/07/30/the-complicated-but-unveriable-legacy-of-chris-kyle-the-deadliest-sniper-in-american-history/ The above story mentions just some of the BS Kyle is known to have said and done. If we actually believe Kyle, we have to believe he's a murdering POS (among other not so good things) and I'm not talking about his sniper kills overseas. I think it's safe to say that Kyle is not someone worthy of trust in his stories. American Sniper is going to be far more a work of fiction than an authentic biopic. Interesting link. Part of me feels sorry for men like this, part of me wonders why he'd feel the need to boast. Most very brave men choose to be modest about it.

  11. But it would have to be an issue around something serious, like if the company was homophobic. I agree websites should cover whatever the hell they like. OTOH the point above seems to me to be the root of the problem in this entire debate - what do you consider to be 'homophobic?' I'm socially liberal and dislike bigotry. However, I suspect your idea of what constitutes bigotry and mine might be rather different. SJWs and the like use allegations of bigotry, 'isms' and phobias to shut down debate and determine the terms of reference in their favour. So I don't accept their rules much of the time because they are deliberately tactical. OTOH they will just allege the 'ism' du jour. As in, "I'm not even engaging with him... he's a SEXIST!" And so on.
  12. IWD is all about party builds, tactics and exploring. There's an interesting story in there too if you're interested but it's not in your face. It's one of my favourite IE games and my best playthrough was with an iconic Fighter / Thief / Magic-User / Cleric single classed party based on characters from the old AD&D rulebooks.
  13. Look, Leigh Alexander has made an error of judgement, unless of course she simply doesn't want to work in her chosen field any more. It's like the editor of a driving / automobile site saying 'drivers suck, drivers are dead, cars are a waste of time," then getting baffled when BMW pull some ads. It really is that simple. I'm all for journalists wearing their hearts on their sleeves. I like Leigh's passion, if I'm honest, and her "I'm not gonna take it any more!" brio. But every now and then, as a journo, I'd imagine you need to think big picture. She's an editor - she could have got that point across and offered a notional counter-view and got clean away with it. Oh well, she's rolled the dice, quite literally. The thing is her staff and colleagues will feel the burn too.
  14. We're pushing it back to a Q1 2015 release to polish it a bit more.
  15. Foetus Quest - the game where you start out swimming around in a nutsack, do some crazy Wii-style rowing before the explosive penetrate-the-egg mini-games followed by nine months of bobbing around in ichor (which can be a sort of ambient chillout part of the experience). Then the crash-caesarian or whale-music delivery option (BONUS!) at the end. The boss battle is a recalcitrant nipple from which you need to coerce precious nourishment.
  16. Good point!
  17. ^ No. As an Englishman I resent the idea of a Native American muscling in on our hitherto sacred role as postmodern villains of choice. Besides I always rooted for the Indians as a kid when watching cowboy movies. Axes and warpaint = cool. Six-shooters and ten-gallon hats = lame.
  18. Tell me, Bryy, how do we make women want to play Call of Duty or Company of Heroes? How? In seven years of playing the CoH franchise and being part of that community I've come across two female players (both, as it happens, extremely good). But two? Out of tens of thousands? The market is the market. Simple as that. SJWs aren't generally 'market' people. They are academics, writers, public sector / government worthies and other folks not directly involved in making money. And making money is noble.
  19. That's a powerful trailer.
  20. Ho ho ho... emo swastika dude. How very generation Y.
  21. Someone will write a PhD about why he's wrong, then make an awful text adventure game about menstruation. They will get lots of Twitter fans and make their name slamming men who don't understand how to make text adventures about menstruation, on account of their misogynist lack of a womb and ovaries. And it will probably be a man.
  22. No offence, but I think the whole point of the delay is to polish and improve stuff they've already done, not create new stuff. That said, there's nothing wrong with your idea, I quite like it.
  23. This guy is from, like, some mythical place beyond the clouds and perhaps even the stars. He carries sparkly fragments of legend in his DNA. He is... awesome. I can't believe I missed this thread this time around. Do you think he might come back? I want to hear more about his RPG roots. I'm completely serious.
  24. Which is why it's the world's most successful and much-loved RPG, right?
