  1. I've not seen any be the type that think that, Gftd1's pepper spray fetish aside anyway, but things are rarely that clear. Also it is hard to determine if the person is just pulling your leg - this is a forum for games, after all, there is no need to be serious. And so what if they don't have much empathy ? That's not nor should it be a requirement for a member on a forum or a moderator. Moderator is there to enforce rules and that is it, if the rules and other moderators agree something is bad then they act on it, is the job after all. He or she doesn't need to feel sad or upset or whatever about it.
  2. Well, that's your problem then. I highly doubt any moderators are cool with torture (seriously though, name them if you're going to throw a dart like that), some may argue that it's justified as a means to get intelligence and that is their hill to fight on. And even if they are, they may very well do their "job" regardless. Except when I report promanc....errr never mind.
  3. Hm, well offensive is a vague bar, especially these days where it seems everyone can take outrage over everything (If I find out a Obsidian employee likes Chelsea FC I am done with this company, though). Just that over the many years I've ben on forums, IRC, newsgroups I've come to just either ignore threads whose topics are uninteresting - though some times fun to joke in - and to not let writings of people bother me all that much. Also, it's nice to let people be as loose as you can, so to speak. Mind you, this is for things that may be offensive but still have some value, rather than being stuff akin to "I hate them black people". Nothing comes immediately to mind as I am quite tired, but you can think up some. In that case if people are offended by others' opinions and how they colour things, they can argue it or perhaps just suck it up and deal with it. This place really isn't as bad as some people seem to think it is. Even if we let promancers stay here.
  4. There's an example of abusing a metaphor, if there was one. Anyway, the current moderation standards are fine, people can be a bit hostile, snipe at one another and generally get into what most people accept is a heated argument. Not necessarily "**** flinging" - though I guess that is just general abuse or something ? The degree to which this tradeoff is "good" (though this is ignoring the risk getting a horde of vapid idiots in response or something) does depend on what your standard is - if it is BruceVC for example, we're hosed. I guess I assume most people in the world aren't made of tissue paper and can stand some degree of hostility without freaking out and leaving (then again some of the PE joiners had drama-queen exits )
  5. Better safe than sorry, I guess. Does seem they are looking at their modelling though, so here's hoping they get a more accurate one (apparently the US model is inferior to a EU one, due to less computing power available)
  6. Yeah, saw that. Her problem to deal with, at least with her examples - threads you find irritating you don't have to read (promancers have said this in the past). I guess those two threads qualify as a 'microagression' ? Heh. Thing is Obsidian gets flak and heat in the 'outside world' anyway, some of it may be deserved and some of it not. Sounds like her idea of 'welcoming' is just to be praising. Needs a bit more than that if you want to condemn this forum as a place that 'needs to change', though I'd be amused to hear what you would say does. I mean meaningful work as in completing the project they made, not getting into a back and forth with customers.
  7. That's what I thought too, who knew the dark truth? I guess the only conclusion that we can reach from this is that SA and the Codex are much more nurturing environments that don't spew toxic bile. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. A conclusion from you that doesn't involve drones or pepper spray ? What the heck, man. But anyway, I'm not really big on needing to interact with developers a lot, that way either leads to fanboyism or deluded folk giving direction (possibly some in between, but feh) and that is annoying to developers. They, presumably, know what they are trying to do and how to do it, so just content to read updates every now and then.
  8. Shame there's no way to get a discount and not bother with the 'commentary' (goodie I can hear Schafer or $df_employee[$rand()]'s opinion on things). No real rush to get this, debatable it'll pop on a sale for some time to come but might as well wait.
  9. Well heavy moderation could also mean cracking down on people being snarky, like you, right ? And that would make this place boring. Arguments can get pretty heated, especially if you have things people are passionate about. From a practical standpoint, heavy moderation is bound to end up with some martinet jagoff as the amount of work and focus required will really be worth it for that type alone, I feel. Y'know someone who takes online postings seriously. I've not really seen 'toxic bile' here, but I'm sure you have a different standard for that. Hm, perhaps the romance threads in the past but from what I recall those weren't too nasty.
  10. I thought they were too busy, y'know, working to waste time on this forum.
  11. ...Which would, presumably, be very bad, because...? Run the risk of being a very stale place, people become reluctant to argue. Also have to worry about the moderators being crap themselves and going on a trip. Here though, I really fail to see a problem. This board is pretty civil, the worst people do is either the usual passive agressiveness or backhanded insults you see everywhere or minor scuffles. Then again, maybe others are more sensitive.
  12. Stilgar was also good. "We have wormsign the likes of which....GOD...has never seen"
  13. Apparently there are some major bugs in the release as well.
  14. Help fund Broken Age.
  15. Snow in crowded urban areas makes things a nightmare, here in Toronto nothing flows smoothly ever. Glad to see it wasn't too bad for NYC and was not an ice storm - those are fun
  16. Heh, these forums are an 'unsafe' place for who ? BruceVC hasn't been run off, after all.
  17. Sounds fun LC, good luck with recovery as well.
  18. NVIDIA talked a bit more about the 970 issue http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA-Discloses-Full-Memory-Structure-and-Limitations-GTX-970
  19. Eh, it's a common enough criticism of the game series I guess he felt compelled to mention something about it. The RPS preview is odd, guy claims W2 was hard but Dark Souls was easy and that a boss fight where he had to experiment and try new approaches to beat was not interesting ? CDPR PR - http://www.twitch.tv/GOGcom
  20. Hm, seems that griffin fight engaged him a bit, but I guess he may have a point about the fights being mundane (though, it is hard to have every fight be thrilling, I suppose). So far shaping up to be what I expected. Gamespot as well http://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-and-the-call-of-the-sirens/1100-6424859/
  21. Ah well, better luck next time I guess.
  22. Hope so, then we can get some people bitching about it not being a real MI game as Lord Rob wasn't involved and it countered some interpretation of his vison.
  23. 3 more LucasArts titles arriving tomorrow.
  24. Feh to Gearbox.
