  1. Actually I'm only vaguely aware of that law, but my point is so is most everyone else, am I wrong?
  2. Something tells me most of you don't have any idea what's actually in the Patriot Act.
  3. I live in constant frustration over the state of my fellow citizens, not terror. That doesn't mean we should just ignore the very obvious threat and stick our heads in the sand.
  4. I'd like to see how self-righteous you'll both be after the next terrorist attack.
  5. Obama is the most lawless president I've ever seen. But you can't impeach a black president without tearing the country apart, and the Senate would never have enough votes to convict, even if Republicans take over.
  6. We have troops in Mexico?
  7. I think this is the most appropriate comment on Venezuela : http://www.kiplingsociety.co.uk/poems_copybook.htm Even with the Soviet Union, North Korea and Cuba as examples, the fools never learn.
  8. I'm curious, why do you think it was obvious?
  9. Ever watch TV shows targeted at women? Enough said.
  10. Speaking of hitler, there's this : http://www.nationalreview.com/article/372353/eurasianist-threat-robert-zubrin It may seem like a paranoid rant, but sure would explain a lot.
  11. Yes. let's just split every country up along ethnic lines, I'm sure that won't cause any problems. Most of New Mexico is of Mexican descent, I guess we should either give it back to Mexico or make them independent. Btw, that was hitler's reasoning, any area that was predominantly (or more or less) German should be part of Germany.
  12. You also need to remember that guns aren't really to protect against the military (which is unlikely to fight it's own citizens anyway, as has been pointed out), it's to protect against pro-government thugs (see Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Organizing for America in Obama's wet dreams). Also the amount of violence that would result from trying to repress a heavily armed population is enough to give even the most tyrannically minded pol some pause. Edit: Even in Ukraine, protesters were fighting riot police, not the military.
  13. How so ? I mean if everyone had guns, at least they would have been able to shoot back, but that presumes everyone being armed all the time. Doesn't seem very plausible. I have a permit and carry almost everywhere I go. Well you aren't representative of the average Chinese commuter. Well, you didn't say "plausible in China". It's quite plausible in Texas, which is the point. Btw, I've read that crime rate committed by concealed license holders is actually lower than that of police! Our constitution has been gutted, all we got left is the first and second amendments. If we lose those, it's all over.
  14. Actually although I'm against gun control, it doesn't. These were multiple well prepared attackers, as opposed to a lone nut that's usually the problem in US.
  15. American war against Serbia was just pure Democrat party stupidity, fighting people who were semi-friendly and in any case not a threat to us to help the global Islamist movement. If this explanation doesn't seem plausible to some, consider that the same administration invaded Haiti to replace a somewhat pro-American government with a viciously anti-American one. Don't see how any of that justifies what's clearly Russian aggression in this case.
  16. Do tell, who is the real power-structure in the US? Special interest groups. Lobbies. The military-industrial complex. Banks. Peopel with lots of $$$ run the US in all but name. Presidents change, but they are all their b***es. Unions, lawyers, doctors, pharma, minorities, homos, corporations. Shockingly US has lots of special interest groups vying for power. In this I'm sure we're very different from any other country.
  17. I see no evidence US press is intimidated (except in Chicago), it's just incredibly ignorant and biased. Kirsten Powers - Even if CO2 does not cause global warming, it's still a pollutant that harms people's health Bill O'Reilly - [something irrelevant as usual]
  18. Lying pro-government media exposed on live TV : http://www.nationalreview.com/article/371778/ukraine-changed-forever-live-tv-john-fund One of these days someone should do that to the US lying pro-government media.
  19. Who said she should be exempt? I was commenting on the severity of the sentence. Sure give her punishment of some sort, but 3 years jail? It's pretty severe, considering hard core criminals often get away with less, but I think it's meant as a warning to others more than anything, because it really is a national security threat. Also Feds tend to be quite ruthless.
  20. I'm concerned how long is your dog companion going to live once he meets the first armored enemy?
  21. People fighting for their freedom, same as in Ukraine. Ukraine has been under the Russian boot for hundreds of years, no one should expect them to take it lying down. Too bad Germans didn't do the same to the democratically elected hitler.
  22. Democracy is worthless without rule of law, it leads either to mob rule or the worst tyranny imaginable. Unfortunately it's much harder to establish the rule of law than a (temporary) democracy.
  23. Jade Empire started off badly with an info dump about the world I don't care about yet, I think they turned a lot of people off right there. After that Tien's Landing was pretty great, some of Bio's best. Then you get to Imperial City, and it's mostly filler and KOTOR retreads. Also the game was apparently cut short, there's a world map but only two cities to travel to, and really no reason to even return to the first one! Combat was slick, and I actually did have to think about tactics in the boss fights. Overall a pretty great game, in spite of flaws and apparently being rushed.
  24. Not really a discovery, but since we once had a long thread on lotteries and probabilities, here's an interesting article : http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/math-explains-likely-long-shots-miracles-and-winning-the-lottery/
  25. I don't know if it's actually bad, but I got very bored by Risen. Next would be Mass Effect 1 (very amateurishly made), and Dragon Age Origins (very repetitive and tedious, almost without any creativity at all).
