It's interesting that although Putin blamed Ukraine for the incident (for supposedly starting the conflict), he did not actually accuse them of the shoot down itself. Surely he knows who did it.

I think saying they bring nothing of value to the system is unfair. For example fraud is rampant in Medicare, our version of single payer. But that's beside the point, you seemed to be saying single payer fosters more competition, and I was hoping for an explanation of how it does that. Btw, single payer is also a middleman, in either case you need someone to collect (forcibly in case of single payer) the premiums and distribute the benefits.
-
You seem to be saying universal coverage promotes competition. I don't follow the logic there.

I'm sure that type of health care might work well at the convent, but for the majority of the human race, sex and health go hand in hand. The healthcare industry is involved in our sex lives for a lot of reasons, and there is no reason that should change. It's how we keep child birth safe and prevent the spreading of STD's. Do you even know how birth control pills work? That's not something you should be buying off some street corner, you need a real doctor in charge of that type of hormonal chemistry. Also you seem to be arguing that companies shouldn't provide health insurance at all. That would be fantastic, I would love to have affordable health care available that wasn't tied to my job. Unfortunately that is not the world we live in. So if companies are going to be the ones providing the bulk of health care to people, I don't think they should have carte blanche on what my health care options are. I want trained medical professionals deciding what should be available to me, not some CEO. It's the political hacks at HHS decided that contraceptives had to be covered, not trained medical professionals. Not every procedure/drug has to be covered by an insurance policy to provide reasonable health insurance. Congress itself recognized that there could be moral objections to providing certain coverage, ACA specifically states that abortions don't need to be covered. So yeah, it's reasonable to expect your health insurance to cover you if you get sick, and it's also reasonable to expect you to pay for your own contraceptives.
-
They don't, you're welcome to pay for it yourself. It's also dubious whether contraceptives are actually healthcare, since sex isn't a disease. Why is it that people feel entitled to have someone else pay for them anyway? Your employer has to pay you for time worked, how you spend that money is your business.

agreed, but real world french and quebecers frequent inspire in us the same urge, soooo... *shrug* her accent isn't all that different from anne paillaud when she does english-speaking films. no doubt you can find clips o' the man in the iron mask or innocent blood. is not an excuse as Gromnir has never been a particular fan o' the french accent, faux french accents, jaunty beret, crêpes, or poor showings in world wars neither. HA! Good Fun! Well, technically they only showed poorly in one world war.

Played some more Whispered World. Can't believe people can do those puzzles. Makes me feel very dumb. Of course I've always been bad at puzzles.

European Parliamentary Elections results, major concern?

Hmm, almost forgot, I was saving this for a suitable thread : http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/2012/07/when-governments-elect-another-people.html -
I think Underrail might meet that description. Also Xenonauts is out, but it's more of X-com game. Age of Decadence should be done this fall.

European Parliamentary Elections results, major concern?

I have been researching this issue, it seems that David Brat ran his campaign primarily on an anti-immigration perspective? With the changing demographics in the USA and the increasing numbers of Latino voters I find this type of strategy anachronistic, surely this can't be a sustainable policy for Republicans going forward or am I missing something? It drives me up the wall when people say that. It's not "anti-immigration", it's "anti illegal immigration", big difference. And no, you're not missing anything, America is doomed, Democrats finally succeeded in replacing the voters with the ones they prefer. -
Finally finished Bound by Flame, overall a very good game. The strong points are writing, characterization, and the challenging combat. There are a few issues though. It's quite combat heavy, more so than Mars, so more on the action RPG side than what I would prefer. Almost all quests are quite simple, go to an area, kill everything and pick up something. In act 1 chapter 3 the main quest goes into the chapter end sequence without much warning, so I missed completing several side quests and an area I was planning to explore some more. In act 3 a couple of side quests appear before they can be completed, which is very confusing. Also in act 3 there's a battle that's much harder if you do it in the wrong order and in any case I had to use a guide for it. The enemies usually respawn as soon as you leave an area, but you can normally run or sneak past them (unless you need whatever they're guarding) The last battle seems ridiculous on normal, I finally did it with a guide and on easy, in which case it's not too bad. The biggest problem are the skill trees. At the beginning it's implied you should switch stances from heavy to daggers depending on the situation. But it turns out there's really no reason to do it and you're much better off sticking to one stance or the other and putting all your points into that one, as leveling up both will just make you weaker in both. The exception is stealth, which can be fairly useful either way. They should have either kept it like in Mars, where skills from either tree are useful all the time, or made it clear the skill trees are separate and it's best to stick to one. Also the magic skills are so relatively weak it's not worth investing in them either, except where they help the melee, for which there are some low level magic skills that are quite useful. There are also high level skills which would be useful but it takes such a large investment of points into useless things to unlock the higher magic levels it's better to just keep investing into melee. Even in melee a lot of the skills don't seem to give much bang for the buck. And the highest level skill in heavy takes so much mana, lasts such a short time, and takes so long to invoke (thus frequently interrupted) that it's almost worthless, although in theory it should be a powerful ability. Next I'll play a couple of battles in Red Thunder and then on to Wolfenstein.

A victory for gerrymandering? Not sure what gerrymandering had to do with it, it's not like somebody drew up a district just to make Cantor lose. -

Btw, we just had the equivalent of the UKIP victory with the Republican House majority leader Eric Cantor defeated in the primary by an anti-amnesty conservative. -
Obama is the chosen one, he don't need no stinking law. In this case it's not so easy to tell if DOJ is doing something legitimate or not, but as secretive and lawless this administration has been there's no choice but to be very suspicious of their methods and motives. Once thing I will say though, if the government takes your property under Eminent Domain, they do have to give you fair market value in compensation.

To expand on Monte's point, the nazis are actually far left, because, you know, they're socialists, it's right there in the name. To call them far right is an intentional slander against the right. -

Looks to me like the European voters have finally realized the establishment has been selling them out for years. -
OK, thanks, I guess I'll wait and see how many games actually support SteamOS.
-
Where does it say it'll run on SteamOS? Is Steambox even real or vaporware at this stage? I'm confused.

Dialog in Bound by Flame can be hilarious. Demon: "She's hiding something. Though it's not her body."

So far BBF makes me think DA is the low budget knock-off made by amateurs who know nothing about making games or write anything except cloying or maudlin dialog. Of course so far no homosexuals have hit on me, and no one told me about their sad childhoods or long lost siblings, so there's always hope. I wasn't really talking about quality of stories (or even comparing the stories even if they share some common tropes - both have a main character who becomes invested with a power that makes them uniquely qualified to face a menace to their society. Both have scantily clad witches found in woods, and female members of what appears to be a scholarly religious order, etc). I was more thinking in some of the production elements (although this may be from playing on a PS3 and not a computer, too, think about it). Things like the handling of the controls (I sometimes have to walk away from things, turn around and walk back to get positioned to trigger a "pick-up" notice), some of the quests not triggering (or failing) properly, etc. Its an enjoyable game, hope I get some more time at it. DAO on the 360 was very buggy, I had to use a work around just to get my allies to use any special abilities, sometimes they'd just stand around watching. BBF runs a lot better, plus the combat is more interesting IMO.

Bound by Flame. Played through the prolog so far. Don't understand the negative reviews, combat is similar to Mars, but seems improved and quite fun. If the story holds up, the game should be at least on par with Mars. Difficulty curve seems a bit steep.
