  1. How so ? I mean if everyone had guns, at least they would have been able to shoot back, but that presumes everyone being armed all the time. Doesn't seem very plausible. I have a permit and carry almost everywhere I go. Well you aren't representative of the average Chinese commuter. Well, you didn't say "plausible in China". It's quite plausible in Texas, which is the point. Btw, I've read that crime rate committed by concealed license holders is actually lower than that of police! Our constitution has been gutted, all we got left is the first and second amendments. If we lose those, it's all over.
  2. Actually although I'm against gun control, it doesn't. These were multiple well prepared attackers, as opposed to a lone nut that's usually the problem in US.
  3. American war against Serbia was just pure Democrat party stupidity, fighting people who were semi-friendly and in any case not a threat to us to help the global Islamist movement. If this explanation doesn't seem plausible to some, consider that the same administration invaded Haiti to replace a somewhat pro-American government with a viciously anti-American one. Don't see how any of that justifies what's clearly Russian aggression in this case.
  4. Do tell, who is the real power-structure in the US? Special interest groups. Lobbies. The military-industrial complex. Banks. Peopel with lots of $$$ run the US in all but name. Presidents change, but they are all their b***es. Unions, lawyers, doctors, pharma, minorities, homos, corporations. Shockingly US has lots of special interest groups vying for power. In this I'm sure we're very different from any other country.
  5. I see no evidence US press is intimidated (except in Chicago), it's just incredibly ignorant and biased. Kirsten Powers - Even if CO2 does not cause global warming, it's still a pollutant that harms people's health Bill O'Reilly - [something irrelevant as usual]
  6. Lying pro-government media exposed on live TV : http://www.nationalreview.com/article/371778/ukraine-changed-forever-live-tv-john-fund One of these days someone should do that to the US lying pro-government media.
  7. Who said she should be exempt? I was commenting on the severity of the sentence. Sure give her punishment of some sort, but 3 years jail? It's pretty severe, considering hard core criminals often get away with less, but I think it's meant as a warning to others more than anything, because it really is a national security threat. Also Feds tend to be quite ruthless.
  8. I'm concerned how long is your dog companion going to live once he meets the first armored enemy?
  9. People fighting for their freedom, same as in Ukraine. Ukraine has been under the Russian boot for hundreds of years, no one should expect them to take it lying down. Too bad Germans didn't do the same to the democratically elected hitler.
  10. Democracy is worthless without rule of law, it leads either to mob rule or the worst tyranny imaginable. Unfortunately it's much harder to establish the rule of law than a (temporary) democracy.
  11. Jade Empire started off badly with an info dump about the world I don't care about yet, I think they turned a lot of people off right there. After that Tien's Landing was pretty great, some of Bio's best. Then you get to Imperial City, and it's mostly filler and KOTOR retreads. Also the game was apparently cut short, there's a world map but only two cities to travel to, and really no reason to even return to the first one! Combat was slick, and I actually did have to think about tactics in the boss fights. Overall a pretty great game, in spite of flaws and apparently being rushed.
  12. Not really a discovery, but since we once had a long thread on lotteries and probabilities, here's an interesting article : http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/math-explains-likely-long-shots-miracles-and-winning-the-lottery/
  13. I don't know if it's actually bad, but I got very bored by Risen. Next would be Mass Effect 1 (very amateurishly made), and Dragon Age Origins (very repetitive and tedious, almost without any creativity at all).
  14. That's what happens, you start out with the innocent sounding Commerce Clause and you wind up with Chairman Obama.
  15. You get significant bonuses when your reputation changes from neutral, that's why it takes so long. Don't remember it being at the end of Chapter 2 though, for me it was closer to beginning/middle.
  16. Women did make a tremendous contribution in Medieval times, and if this was a weaving or a cooking simulator (or even a Countess or Queen simulator), I'd be all for including a woman as a PC. But as far as actually being involved in combat, that was an extraordinary event, and would have to be explained in game how it came to be (something most people really don't care about, I mean you could make a game about a woman warrior, but it's not this game, nor am I convinced such a game would garner much support, except from those trying to make an ideological point.)
  17. Why can't you play as Black or Chinese? There were plenty of examples in history of Blacks and Chinese in Medieval Europe. Clearly not having an option to play them is racist.
  18. The most corrupt Olympic games in history : http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/threats-sochi-olympics-whistleblower-drowned-blood/story?id=22270000 "you will be drowned in blood" Unfortunately we ourselves are quickly approaching a similarly corrupt one party state (I say that having lived in both countries).
  19. Already raised more than half. May be they'll get their whole budget.
  20. New Call of Cthulhu game announced: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/01/17/call-of-cthulhu-videogame-call-of-cthulhu-the-videogame/ Really hope it's not just a point-and-click, though all indications so far are that it is. Edit: Also, new demo of Histwar (Napoleonic war simulation) is available, much prettier than the old one : http://www.histwar.com/game/demo.html
  21. Tried the The Whispered World, cool game and very funny, but are the puzzles opaque! Need to get some more playtime with CM: Battle for Normandy before the Eastern Front version comes out.
  22. I've just been going on about how great Mars: War Logs is. It's on the 360 for $10. Try the demo first though.
  23. The difference is in the West you're free to dig up information to the contrary, in the Soviet Union that would make you an enemy of the state. You seem to habitually miss the distinction.
  24. There's only one ending. By ending I meant what you're told in the epilogue.
  25. Finished Mars: War Logs. What a great game! The best I've played in a long time. Really has everything an RPG should have. Too bad it got such mixed reviews, almost missed it and probably a lot of other people did too. My only serious complaints are that enemies respawn in some areas in part 2, so some times you have to do the same fight both coming and going, and it might turn out for nothing. And part 3 is too combat heavy, but combat is pretty fun, so that's not so bad. Not sure I made optimal decisions, my ending didn't turn out too well, I may have been too kind.
