  1. Its easy to say that when you aren't the target of bigotry or abuse. "Just ignore it " isn't a viable solution to dealing with most cases of bigotry Actually on the internet it is, you just log off. How is that ignoring? That is actively running away from. Logging off is not running away. When a troll posts something, it's for a reaction. If you give them that, then your are encouraging them to continue. If you ignore them they will seek greener posters. Of course some people need to feel as though they 'won' the discussion and can't leave it alone, more power to them. But essentially it's a waste of time. Or it's finding something better to do with your time. It's a forum/twitter/facebook troll, and has no meaning to the outside world. Actually it's more often then not there to get a rise out of people. A troll is not being genuine, they are being deliberately controversial/annoying etc. You can not reason with it, you can not educate it. Watching your squirm, getting annoyed, arise in your white horse are things it enjoys seeing. You can not win the discussion, you can only lower yourself to it's level.
  2. Ah, so games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion are not really good examples of how to make an RPG, and they don't have romances. By deduction, I conclude that in order to make a good RPG it should have romances. Thanks! I was thinking more about a proper faction system, real C&C and interesting characters. But hey if you think romance, your with the right company.

  4. People really need to stop being concerned by what some random person on the internet thinks of them. Think KaineParkers avatar. Helper should of just ignored the trolls instead she and Aaryn did exactly what they wanted. The more 'devs call it out', the more they'll attract trolls. No it's not fair, but that is what happens when you put yourself in the public eye.
  5. Only Fallot NV was good game from those three you mentioned. Oblivion and fallout 3 was good examples how not to make a games in general. I agree here. No it didn't. There was no hint. Hell her ending slide has her hooking up with some random NCR trooper. That is not someone pining for the PC. Beside I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere she dismisses any thought on the matter if the player uses the lady killer perk. Thank you. Now apply this logic to romances.(based on the increased sales theory.)
  6. We know that Oblivion, Fallout 3 and FO:NV sold better then both the ME and DA series. Their was no romance in these games. Wait first you were saying that adding romance would increase sales for PE, now your saying it hasn't effected the sale of bioware games? I question the thought the the inclusion of romance would make people that weren't already interested in P:E suddenly buy it. Many of the romance fans on BSN also like other features bio uses(voiced pc cinematic dialogue, TPS etc) features that aren't in PE. PE is an old school game for those that would like to see a return to the older ways of making an RPG. Many on BSN haven't played BG, IWD or Torment and for those that have, many of them think bioware's latest titles are superior.
  7. Whoa slow down there, I said I would take them both at the same time, no be in relationships with them both. I ain't mad(or rich) enough for that.
  8. It's a very popular feature with many people that are fans of RPGs, particularly ones like Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate 2. The reaction to romances was probably the biggest surprise of BG2. They were ridiculously well received. Despite not being a fan of them personally, I disagree with the implication that their popularity is constrained to something like the BioWare Social Network (hence why the topic continually gets brought up in pretty much every RPG developer's forum). Most of the posters that want romances on here are from BSN, not all but most. Many people frequent numerous forums(I peruse BSN from time to time). Having said that, I do think a lot like romances, they just don't need it like (some of)those on BSN and here. Most people would consider it fluff. Not a requirement, and certainly not a make or break feature. And wouldn't chose other features to be cut in it's place. The people that would base a purchase on whether or not romances are included is small. I doubt that MP for Project Eternity would see the benefits that you are putting forth, unless they changed the scope of the game. It's not like the old infinty engine games didn't have MP, they did. I don't think P:E will be smaller than the original BG.(Would just like to say I'm even more opposed to MP than romances in PE.) You don't agree that more gamers would enjoy MP than romance? I would think differently in the current climate of gaming. (Everything has to have MP) Yes it's a fact that Bethesda's FO 3 helped propel NV forward. My point was despite bioware's efforts on the romance front, you still aren't outselling the other RPG's without that feature. It can't be the big selling feature if other games without it do better. Romances are a niche feature in a niche genre. Not a customer puller. Not yet anyway. More infinity engine games had MP than romances. Only BG2 had romances, while both BG and IWD had MP. While I won't argue that romances aren't a more remembered feature for some. Their was a lot that enjoyed the co-op. I just don't believe romances are the key to this. I would seriously doubt you would see a massive sales drop off in a bioware game where romance wasn't included. All your are doing is trying to connect sales to romance based on your desire to see romance in the game.
  9. The majority of gamers couldn't care less. That said it is a very, very popular feature on BSN. By adding MP P:E would attract a group 10 times the size that romances could pull in. Should they add that instead. I still don't believe that romances would make any difference in sales. FO:NV no romance, outsold any bioware game.
  10. Wait they are making HD release of Homeworld...... http://games.on.net/2013/07/homeworld-hd-remakes-headed-to-pc/ How did I miss that.
  11. Yeah I've noticed that too. Why can't people just let me solo in peace?
  12. Speaking of people that don't read properly... That was my opinion on player sexual characters not your mod. Player sexual characters, are an easy way out. They are there so the PC can do whatever they want with them. Blow up dolls. It's come up before in these threads. But you and others obviously don't feel they have planned romances from the start. If you and others did, you wouldn't be posting topics, pointing to polls (as clear indication of a majority want) and dismissing devs(less than favourable) thoughts on the matter. You want romances regardless of your 'second point'. So pick an area to take resources from.
  13. Obsidian burns through $1mil a month in expenditure. They will not be holding back from releasing it for too long. Mid 2014 latest. Then either it sells enough to self fund future PE titles, or it's back to kickstarter for the next one.
  14. Actually I have. In the previous romance threads. Actually I haven't, I can't help it when people don't read properly. I've always stated multiple genders and sexualities. Then Pshaw listed a whole bunch of straight male PC games as examples for games like bioware, wrong examples. Of course it is. Resources are always limited, they are even more so in P:E situation. Blech, player sexual characters. Might as call them blow up dolls. But for horrors sake lets accept that, and move on to the fact that it's still four romances to write. We still have to take resource from somewhere else to get four romances. Where do you pick? Lore? Non-romance interactions? Quests? Factions? Endings?
  15. Yeah sure Bruce that's exactly it.... Or maybe it has more to do with the fact I don't want limited resources spent on 4-8 romances(2 straight male, 2 gay male, 2 straight female, 2 gay female). And before someone chimes in with you aren't asking for that, you are. The point of me constantly emphasizing Set straight male PC, was to show why those games can get away with no female romances and a lack of homosexual ones. The minute you start allowing the player to create the PC, gender and sexuality change the requirements. If only male players get two romance, females are going to rightly ask why they are being excluded, if only heterosexual players characters get romances, homosexual players are going to rightly asking why they are being excluded. It's a resource drain. I will put it this way, I dislike the idea of any romance in P:E. Limited resources is why. There is only so much time and money Obs can put into this game. This isn't a big budget bioware game(which even then still cuts corners), it's a $4 million small budget game. What should have less time spent on it or be cut for romances? Should companions have less dialogue for those that don't romance them? (Calibrations) Should a faction not be developed to the devs original intentions? (Caesar's Legion) So 73,986 people have voted on those polls? Should we take a poll on multiplayer too?
  16. All religions were considered a cult a sometime in there history. Those that last long enough and gain enough members become a religion.
  17. So I bought this during the first sale, so far it's not too bad. It helps if you liked the show. If you didn't it, there probably isn't much here you haven't seen before.
  18. Oh really? So there are other game developers making games with multiple romances for multiple genders and sexualities? Wait what? Fable is the well written, nuanced romance you guys want? Why don't we include the Sims too..... Skyrim's 'romance' is the equivalent to hitting someone over the head with a club and taking them back to your cave. Fallout had a marriage that was a joke......... Set PC, no female gender, no homosexual romance. A old bioware game. Set PC, no female gender, no homosexual romance. Set male PC, no homosexual romance. However in the cash in's re-releases they do give a female gender. Really? If it's a JRPG with a focus on dating simulation it has no relevance to P:E. You've also yet to list a game with bioware options made by another company. Glad you admit this about them..... You listed three games, that had an option to just give the NPC's gifts, then a ring. That is not romance, in any sense of the word. It's a joke. The rest were all set male PC's, with no gay or lesbian romance. Bioware is the only company that does this for multiple genders and sexualities. Multiple romances are not common in games, nor do they make said games better or increase sales. People need to stop using these claims to reason why Obs must include them. Both claims are false.
  19. Romances in games where waaay before first mass efect and other biowereian games (i hope you don't see BG2 as biowere game). BG2 had romances way before ME, but there where many games before that had romances but they where "plot" related not optional, for example Final Fantasy series. But there where many game before that had romances but they where more plot related and not focust on them even in all FF series from 1 to 7 romance was not so imortant to main plot but more for personal character development. Final Fantasy 8 break it and made plot that romance was almost at first place (but plot was still good and more mature). Way to fail reading comprehension. Their is a distinct difference between most devs story focused romance, and bioware multiple choice chose your own lay adventure. RomanceS are done by bioware. No other game company devotes resources to multiple conquests, for multiple genders, for multiple sexualities. Romance has been done in many other games(newer and older). But it's Singular. No one in these threads are asking for a singular romantic interest. They are asking for multiple choice for different genders and sexualities.
  20. The word Tanking seems to be coming up a lot. Isn't that against the rules in the NBA? Add onto that the team with the worst record isn't even guaranteed the #1 pick.
  21. Let us be honest here, the reason most people are on here clamoring for romances is because of bioware's games. Almost no other dev creates the multiple choice romances. So to come on here posting about wanting romances, then saying 'well I don't really like bioware romances' is being disingenuous. The reason why people want romances is because of Bioware. Not anyone else. Now romance in games is not as limited, as you see it come up in many other titles, the difference, it's singular and forced. That means no choice, more often then not the PC is male(straight) and the interest is female. The romance is pushed down the player throat as the writer tries to create an emotional attachment with player. An example of this, is Triss from the Witcher games, I for one do not want to see a Triss anywhere near PE. FO:NV had no romance, was a better game than all of those mentioned. Icewind Dale 1 & 2 which are infinity engine games had no romance. So no, it wouldn't feel weird that PE had no romances. As to why why some responses are glib: Debate about this subject, has been done and done, and done. Nothing new will be seen, and no new insights will be gained. When this thread dies the participants will return to their corners and await the inevitable next round.
  22. Best part of Awakening and NWN2 was the castle management side quests/decisions. An expansion on those idea's would be welcome. Or it could just be the inquisitors pimp pad.
  23. So someone fired for being abrasive, seems to have a bone to pick with valve. And we all nod and agree there are problems within Valve, rather than look at the fact that she might be just a little bit bitter. She really sounded to be a 'it's all about me', 'no one values me', type worker. Now if you get 30 or 40 people saying there is a hidden nasty side of Valve, then warning flags should be given. One disgruntled ex-employee viewpoint is not worth much.
