A tall tale would be when I reminisce about World War II and fighting the Germans.

Fantasy has nothing to do with time period. Medieval is just the most popular. Fantasy is defined by the presence of fantastic elements, such as people flinging around lightning, fire, or even other people. Or fantastical creatures like giants and fairies.

I absolutely loved it. The action of it is superior (at least when playing a stealth + archer). The companion character (the one that is heard more than seen) is lots of fun to have and really helped make the game for me, providing character and amusement throughout. If you're interested in action-adventure games, and not looking for some open ended sandbox or whatever Oblivion is, then I would hazard to guess that you would like it.

If it's dark and an elf, I'm heavily tempted to say it fits the description of a dark elf.

Like Jan Jansen. I prefer to have a halfling in the party before a gnome. Mazzy was a great halfling. I'm quite the opposite. I like Gnomes, and I liked Jan. I won't even let Mazzy in my party for a second because she's a Halfling. Of course, I hate Grobnar so much, you must guess why I keep making statements at to his actual race.

Mad props. Those last series of races seemed like they were a half hour long. Back on the RPG front: I got tired of the endless reloads from high-level wizards owning me in BG2:ToB, but I wanted to see how it ended so I cheated my way through. So, technically, I finished that one, although I didn't put much work into it. I had to cheat the final boss. MASSIVELY cheat the final boss. I also had to cheat the final boss of the first Baldur's Gate. But, no need to cheat the final boss of regular BG2.

I just remembered some to add to the list Chrono Trigger: Literally at the last boss. Final Fantasy VI: Halfway through Final Fantasy IV: Just over barely touched.

By mutants, do you mean simply mutated, or are you looking towards X-Men. Once you start going towards super powers...

That was one of the most hilarious stories I'd ever heard. Anyone have a link saved for posterity?

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (per the other thread) and about to give up on it because I'm fighting dragons that paralyze my entire group until they're dead. The only counter for having all three members paralyzed is Amulets of Freedom, which I need to go about dealing with the annoying item invention nonsense.

Thanks to this, I've just reordered my stack of PS2 games in order that I now am going to finish them, first to last: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (will pick up from save) Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven (will restart) Shadow Hearts (will restart) Jak II (will restart) Disgaea - Hour of Darkness (will restart) .Hack: Infection (will restart) .Hack: Mutation (never started) Silent Hill 2 (will restart) Silent Hill 3 (never started seriously) Silent Hill 4 (never started seriously) Final Fantasy XII (will pick up from save) Suikoden V (will pick up from save) Then I'll give the two Fallouts a try and finally System Shock 2. I might buy Xenosaga: Episode 3 and give that trilogy a playthrough. Edit: Oh, and I still want to finish my Wild Mage Baldur's Gate 2 playthrough. Looks like I have no reason to buy a new game until next year.

Bloodlines is a fantasy variation. You might be able to call it gothic fantasy or whatnot. KOTOR would be a futuristic fantasy. I don't see how Fallout could fall into fantasy. Bloodlines and KOTOR are both swords and sorcery games. I never got too far into Fallout, but I didn't see much of the sorcery element.

Grobnar was a Halfling in disguise.

I don't think the game's point was to create an overall consistent and believable fiction. Your last point "why not here?" would probably be because it would be damned annoying if the screen shook constantly.

I talked with a friend about RPG genres in respect to MMOs. I'm mentioning it because it applies to non-MMO RPG games recently. He said "Fantasy is a flooded market" to which I responded "Flooded? It's ****ing Waterworld."

Star Wars is swords and sorcery. Not 100% in the movies, but 100% in the three RPGs made off it (KOTOR1, 2, and SWG). And heck, the upcoming Mass Effect is guns and sorcery. We need more Science Fiction RPGs, we've got barely any, and none recent.
