I will no longer be pre-ordering ME3. I now have lost all interest. WHY ARE YOU RUINING BIOWARE EA!!! STOP! How is this "ruining Bioware?" I'm honestly surprised how this can be considered a change. It's not as if Bioware has ever been some champion of niche audiences. The Mass Effect franchise especially was never aimed at being niche, intellectual, complex, or whatever else people are romanticising this realignment as taking away from it.

I hear the sequel "Marriage" is really good at the start, but goes down hill quickly. depends on how good a player you are, both during the game prior to wedding, and after marriage. If you did well enough, it only get's better as you get further along. That's a bug. I hear it gets fixed in the next patch.

You can use a savegame editor to create an import, if you want. Not that I've found. I've found a few that work on editing profiles or a few flags on ME2 saves. But nothing that sets all flags for ME1.

I'm not sure the exact conditions, but they don't automatically die. I think they only die if the rest of the team dies. Many strategies for the final section include taking non-loyal characters with you to protect them.

I don't know if you need two or if you just need one, but Shepard can't survive alone. Shepard ends up failing to get on the ship because no one is there to catch him. It leads to the everyone dies ending.

You say that like it's a good thing. Those 2-4 hours were terrible. Just finished Back to the Future Episode 4. I think this may be their second best series, yet. It's not over, so that may change.

I just hope it gives the Team Fortress 2 team some ideas. Dem hats!
