  1. Why not? Why make it a new franchise? Why make a new IP when they've got an old one they could use? What's the downside to using the XCOM name? Tig seems to have gotten us confused. I have never been so offended in my life.
  2. Based only on my experience with the very short demo, they only thing here not in Conviction is a non-lethal way of dealing with enemies. This simply isn't true. All the popular old stealth series, Thief, Metal Gear, Hitman and Splinter Cell have always given you a chance when you are spotted. Some push stealth a lot more than others, for example in the first SC Sam had poor aim and couldn't knock out an alerted enemy without losing a lot of health, and you'd fail some levels if you set of an alarm 3 times, but none of those old stealth games require you to reload when spotted. I don't think this is a good idea. If a new path is to open up to the player, it should be because they've made a choice. Failure should make it harder to advance, at least temporarily, it should never open alternate paths.
  3. What is this "trial and error thing" you refer to regarding "old-style stealth"?
  4. The developer was acting like a petty child when it choose to exclude the publishers logo and speed up the Activision segment of the credits. This is not the publishers fault. Of course considering Activision is the new EA I'm pretty sure that if Infinity Ward decided to molest a puppy people would claim it was all Activisions fault for not stopping Infinity Ward from molesting that puppy. You puppy molester apologists disgust me.
  5. Why create a new IP when they have the Xcom (X-com/XCOM/X-COM/WHATEVER) property that isn't being used? BECAUSE THEY WANT TO GET THEIR HANDS ON YOUR MONEY! I hate it when businesses want to make money. I hate it when they use IP they own, ESPECIALLY when it's to create something I'm not particularly interested in.
  6. Huh, I had no idea it was so strict down under. Porn is available everywhere here. Theres even an entire DVD rack of porn at the local liquor store I stop at every Friday on my way home. You can rent DVDs from Blockbuster and buy them from specialty stores, but most anything featuring non-simulated sex scenes will get an X rating, and X-rated films aren't available for purchase outside the ACT and Northern Territory. You can, however import them and own them legally, and apparently it's not uncommon to find X-rated films for sale in specialty stores even though it's technically illegal. Magazines use a different system, with all pornography getting a Restricted Category 2 rating, which can be purchased in any state. So I guess technically it's strict down under, but realistically not so much.
  7. I doubt it's very hard to add in an option to toggle character relationship updates on or off, but if you're going to offer such an option you'd need to do it for each individual HUD element, something like in Assassin's Creed. Ultimately though I don't think Obs needs to be catering to each individual players pet peeves, even the ones that are easily "fixed".
  8. It's a shame that people see some anime or manga and think OMG THAT'S HOW JAPANESE PEOPLE REALLY ARE!!1 This will apparently come as a surprise to some folks, but the way the world works in games and movies and books and whatever, isn't necessarily the way it works in real life. Crazy! Anyway, off-topic for a second, now that Michael Atkinson is gone, Australia is likely to finally get an R+18 rating for games, but apparently something calling itself the Office of the Guardian for Children and Young People is up in arms claiming that this rating will "open the country to a range of games that depict domestic violence, rape, murder and torture." Anything that features explicit sex which would be given a X rating (and in most Australian states you can't buy X-rated material), not R, so we aren't suddenly going to see games like RapeLay on Aussie shelves. I am however, wondering about these domestic violence, murder and torture games you guys have been playing that we Australians have so far been shielded from.
  9. Indeed. The reason so many Westerners think the most unusual and extreme Japanese porn is indicative of all Japanese porn is because the most unusual and extreme stuff is what Westerners are interested in. They make enough "vanilla" porn of their own to be interested in censored Japanese stuff.
  10. It's too late, I sold him on ebay, and have already used the money MENDING MY BROKEN HEART.

  11. You think you can just waltz back into my life? Well it's too late mister, I've moved on.
  12. I'm glad the Firewalker DLC is free, because the two missions I've done so far have been rather tedious. The Mako was a bazillion times better than this thing.
  13. lol. Romancing the Stone-Cold Killer: Why Ayn Rand thought William Hickman, a man who kidnapped and murdered a 12 year old girl, was just so super awesome.
  14. lol
  15. I got a Blade Runner feel more than The Matrix. I don't get the Dan Brown thing. Sure, and a poor sequel can lead to the publishers shelving the franchise, which is why Snowblind lost the DX label and it's taken so long for a new entry in the series to appear. But hoping for the best or fearing the worst about potential sequels isn't the same as wishing for no sequels at all so the original can in your mind forever remain a unique snowflake. "Apart from the things that differentiate it from typical shooters, it's a typical shooter." Well done.
  16. Exactly. This idea that hardcore fans of whatever have that a new sequel or prequel will ruin the original is incredibly childish. I don't get why so many people out there in internet land seem to be expecting Project Snowblind 2, a Deus Ex themed linear shooter. It's not like the gameplay featured in DX is some sort of unique gem that can't possibly be replicated. Hell, Alpha Protocol seems to be doing something similar. The impression I get from the devs is that this is a labour of love, so I feel much better about this then I ever did during the development of IW.
  17. No. Was is there to do? There are no PS3 or 360 emulators. Hell, the original Xbox hasn't even been emulated yet.
  18. Deus Ex: Human Revolution Teaser
  19. The Rage Of The Average Joe
  20. I'm playing it right now. All I needed to know was that it existed.
  21. Damn I didn't know that was out.
  22. According to wikipedia, 67% of the first game's total sales came from the 360 version (as opposed to PS3 and PC). The issues people have with DRM don't exist for console gamers.
  23. I feel the same way. Of course I already played this on 360 where I don't have to be online constantly. It'll be interesting to see how much this sells on PC, and how long it takes folks to crack it.
  24. I only buy games I'm sure you'll like. I feel like such a fool when I log on to the Obsidian Forum Community and discover I've bought something you don't approve of. While I might enjoy those games at the time, after I'm done I feel a deep sense of shame and promise myself I'll never play them again, even though I know I probably will.
