  1. That's because you are. Anyway, seeing Gfted1 became moderator I now know what it feels like to live in an alternate universe.
  2. Personally I'm not a fan of GUI elements in-game mode as for example in case of Spinter Cell, I'd play black and white game most of the time. We had black and white TV till early 80's and I'd rather not see that return It made very little difference since the game was gritty and nearly everything was gray in the first place. Actually when not hidden in shadows Splinter Cell Conviction is a pretty colourful game. The system works well but there were times when I'd wander into the light just so I could admire the scenery. As for the videos, they're very nice. I don't know why they've hidden them away before now. Personally I think it's less an issue of DX:HR looking too futuristic as much as DX didn't look futuristic enough. Ion Storm wanted a world that looked mostly like it does now (with "now" being the late nineties), but also had to set the game be set far enough in the future to justify a level of technology that was so far advanced it was essentially magic. So over the course of 50 years we get mechs and cyborgs and magical nanites, but otherwise nothing really changes. For DX:HR to remain true to the stylings of DX we'd need a game that doesn't look all that different from the other modern shooters on the market. I for one much prefer the Blade Runner/Ghost in the Shell sexy cyberpunk style the new game has got going on then the originals modern with some future bits. Speaking of Blade Runner, it's only 9 years away but we're still no closer to the Tannhauser Gate.
  3. Jesus, Killian has been around in one form or another since I first joined the old Black Isle boards. RIP.
  4. I enjoyed the parts of Metro 2033 that had me sneaking around enemy bases, but fighting monsters was quite dull. Graphically very impressive, if you've got a powerful machine and want to show off what it can do, this is the game to do it I guess. Roaming around your characters home base in the beginning just made me sad the game was just a linear shooter.
  5. Of course we are. Screenshots and videos work just as well posted on a forum as the do on a news site. The more people talk about it, the more people know about it and the more potential customers you have. Even negative comments can interest people, get them to take notice and decide they want to see for themselves, make up their own minds about whether it's as bad as everyone claims. What's important is that people are taking notice. Thinking of an ad as something that's trying to trick you into thinking a product is good and then luring you into the trap of buying it is very cynical. The fact you think there is even a need to lead people into "believing it's good" suggests you've already pre-judged it as bad which isn't a reasonable approach. deganawida was the first to talk about the trailer. He posted a link, gave some information and his posts suggest he liked what he saw. Or did he? No, he didn't really like what he saw, he has just been fooled by the nefarious minds at Square Enix as a way of trapping him into buying their products! Thankfully a reasonable chap like myself can see that when people have a positive response to something I don't have a positive response to it's because they've been tricked. Ads lets you know a product exists, or remind you of a product you may have forgotten about, and naturally they want to make that product look at appealing as possible. What they can't do is fool you into thinking into like something when you don't. You're so vain, you think everything I post is about you, don't you. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention, but I haven't seen you post anything particularly whiny, so I don't know why you'd think that was directed at you. It wasn't directed at any one person or even this forum in particular. I do however think that people tend to be more whiny in their negativity than cynical though.
  6. If one is commenting on it, then one has already fallen for it. Although seeing advertising as something you "fall for" suggests it's some kind of trap, which is a terribly cynical way of looking at things. The only way to avoid "falling" for it is to ignore it completely, and if we're taking notice of and commenting on it then the ad has done it's job. As much as folks like to think they're smarter than the average bear and totally above the hype, by being a part of the conversation they make themselves a part of the hype. The only winning move is not to play, but the burning desire to express our opinion, even if it's a whiny negative one, will always win out in the end.
  7. Fair enough, though with that cleared up Slowtrain's comment no longer makes any sense. You would think that would be obvious to people who have played games for a while, that Gorgon thinks ads are pointless, wouldn't you? The foibles of internet communication. I don't think that was ever in question. In my opinion. That's a filthy lie. The original's premise came about in some incredibly complex, PC-centric way. Don't go dumbing down the past. Sigh. I don't know why I even play games any more. Sigh. I'm too old for this ****.
  8. And like any demonstration one disagrees with, the violent agitators will always be cast as representatives of the whole group.
  9. I think you forgot to include some commentary with those quotes.
  10. That's right folks, advertisements are completely pointless. Reality may disagree, but cynical internet men know the Truth!
  11. That makes sense, because that would be a pretty dumb thing to think. I've never played a game that automatically gave me free health every second whenever I needed it. Have you even played any game that has regenerating health? Because regenerating health isn't the god mode you seem to think it is. Health is never "free". While health is no longer a limited resource in games with regeneration, losing it means giving up the advantage, needing to retreat and heal, giving your enemies the upper hand. This can be true in games that use health kits/stations as well, where I need to run away from any enemy and run over a kit that automatically fills my health bar, but contrary to popular opinion* in games with regenerating health your health does not regenerate while you are being damaged. Funnily enough, this isn't true of games that use health kits. In Deus Ex I can use health kits from the quick slots or from the paused status screen and heal myself even when taking damage. *By popular opinion I mean whiny anti-regen crybabies.
  12. Did anyone expect them to use IW as inspiration?
  13. When was this confirmed? Someone on the official forums posted a few tidbits from a magazine article. Well you could move and hide bodies in previous DX and Thief games and I don't see them taking that ability out.
  14. Hark! A Vagrant
  15. "Free health". lol. Regenerating health, health kits or a hybrid of the two, I really don't care. I certainly never played a game with regen and thought "Man, this game would be so much better if there were health kits for me to find." DX:HR features third-person cover like Rainbow Six: Vegas, which I'm quite happy about as I liked it in that game. Also third person takedowns, which I'm not sure how to feel about. I think I won't feel one way or another until I play it myself. Also guards can wake up any unconscious guards they find, which I think is great news because it means that feature will be included in ThiFOURf. I won't lie, I had money on Slowtrain being the first one to say that.
  16. Whether any and all changes will be seen as improvements depends on the individual players. I for one LOVE the Blade-Runner-meets-Ghost-in-the-Shell look and don't care whether or not it looks too advanced, but if one is the type to scream that Eidos Montreal is raping Deus Ex canon, then one is probably not going to see it as an improvement.
  17. Sarif. Trailer is fab. Won't stop the negative nancys from complaining though. Well, maybe I'm not looking in the right forums I'm pretty sure regenerating health murdered the parents of half the posters on the official forums. Speaking of the official forums, they allow magazine scans to be posted (only images, not text), so there are a few screenshots on display. http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?...p;postcount=190 http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?...p;postcount=182 http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?...p;postcount=171 http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?...p;postcount=154 http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?...p;postcount=156

  19. Maybe evasion only goes off while you're crouching. So you'd have to set if off first, then charge.
  20. Parker told me that while Mina was responsible for my rogue status, he was the one who sent the missiles. He was following orders and personally would have preferred to bring Thorton in to be monitored.
  21. I maxed out stealth and martial arts, and had points in pistols, sabotage and toughness. I beat most bosses with a combo of stealth and melee, but would occasionally resort to the pistol. Maxing out stealth and melee makes it really easy. I was able to run around completely invisible and wipe out groups of enemies, even when they were all bunched together in the same room. Evasion meant I was able to sneak right up to someones face and take them out while momentarily invisible. Also, doing a melee takedown from the front is much faster than from the back.
  22. My comment wasn't just directed at you, rather the overall reaction the internets seems to be having to the trailers. Screenshot from a magazine.
  23. Mina Tang was the only one from the Alpha Protocol group I did trust. I did the same thing first time around. I hate that the game closes off areas once you go through certain doors. Her dossier suggested she was still working for the NSA, investigating AP, making her the only one not working for Leland.
  24. It's Deus Ex in name only unless there are only two male character models - man with trenchcoat and man without. People need to wait till they seem some ingame footage before they get their knickers in a knot. The game takes place when the world is in a better state than DX and features cities never seen in the original game. This doesn't look to futuristic to me:
