It seems most likely that Kana's ending will have at least some bearing on the Watcher's interactions with her, but if memory serves, the rest of Kana's family assume more conventional Rauatai attitudes of militaristic expansion and resistance to outside influence, so him having a favorable opinion of the Watcher may actually cause Kana's family to resent the Watcher as someone who has been further enabling his delusions. As for meeting Maia, we know that she's a Rauatai ship captain involved in the effort to claim the Huana as subjects of the Rauatai nation. We also know that she's working with a courtier named Atsura and struggling to find her footing amidst all the political maneuvering that's going (as mentioned here - https://www.fig.co/campaigns/deadfire?update=263#updates). From what's been revealed so far, the mention of politics and the accompaniment of one of the Ranga Nui's courtiers may suggest interactions with Queen Onekaza II within the city of Neketaka, which seems to be the likeliest place for such intrigues to occur given the Queen's efforts to play the Vailians and Rauatians against each other (as per - https://www.fig.co/campaigns/deadfire?update=256#updates). Based on this, I'd expect to first encounter Maia in Neketaka and I'd further expect that encounter to be related to her duties as opposed to some sort of meeting that Kana arranged, especially since the Watcher may have killed, ignored, or fed him to the blood pool during the previous game. Heh, that's going to clash with the goals of the main that I'm doing that I want to bring into PoE2 since he's going to be an ally of the Huana since they're his people. I suppose there may be a chance for the player to change her views.

You know, since Maia is Kana's sister, I wonder if Kana's ending would have any affect on her opinion of you..... I wonder how we manage to meet up with her though, he sends a letter of reference?

I know a few people from Tyranny are working on Deadfire, most notably a couple of the lead writers. I know they're implementing a couple of UI elements from Tyranny onto Deadfire, but we'll see how much. That said I personally was not too keen on the 3D portraits, much prefer a more traditional aesthetic for them. They are working on new UI, but how much it will differ from original PoE remains to be seen. The conversations will use simpler water color portraits for all characters. I'm fine with that, it was just a thought that I had. It's also less work for them to do considering how many more important NPCs there will be in PoE2 compared to Tyranny.

Given that they said that they're going to have lots more time-of-day contextual stuff, this would be very useful, important even. I forget what Fig update it was, but it was one of them where they said that they were giving more options for varied interactions like waiting until your target comes out for a smoke break or something, for example. Theres already a few time-of-day contextual stuff in PoE1, the tides, one particlular ruin, Fishery workers being at work or not, and some other less notable ones.

There's going to be customizable combat AI, so there's that. Don't know how that is going to be handled though.

Preferrably one that doesn't involve rotating with arquebuses or whatever. Basically, I'm trying to think how I want to set up Pallegina since I feel like I need another damage dealer atm, but I can't decide whether I want her to be on support AI or aggressive AI since she could probably deal damage and support at the same time, but I can't decide, lol.... XD hrm, I think I'll put her in tanky support role maybe for now.... edit: She's getting badly hurt a good deal, not sure how to fix that.... I think I'll respec her into using a weapon and shield....

Silly and/or strange things you do
smjjames replied to Messier-31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Something just now that I thought was funny: Looted the Bartender Ring and.... sold it back to the bartender (Bishop) of the Fox and Goose. Dunno why I thought it was funny, just was. -
Not entirely sure what the point of the sidekicks are either, other than as a way to get around party size limits. Some of them appear to have interesting backstories that could certainly be made into very interesting stories and quests. Ydwin: An animancer who is on the cutting edge of Forensic Science. Her insight into things alone would be interesting. Bonteru: Hiravias would find him to be a fellow explorer. Though I'm not sure what sort of story he would have. Radora: mmh, sounds like the standard trope of troubled drifter. Rekke: Now, this guy has LOADS of story potential, someone who is clearly not local to the Deadfire, or any known culture, wears strange clothes, speaks a language nobody knows or recognizes. Perhaps you, the watcher, can glean into his past, or in your explorations of the Deadfire, you find clues to his past and identity, perhaps find a way to communicate with him, etc. SO MUCH potential. Of course though, having him as a sidekick could satisfy that kind of thing.

Yeah this should be in the spoilers section. On the artificial gods, I've seen bits and pieces, but nothing like a full on admission or something. Also, fisstech itself is based off of cocaine, so, svef could just be based off of cocaine rather than based off of fisstech. Though the naive responses make it sound more like marjuana.

Fixing the monk.
smjjames replied to kensu's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think the drug trope was just a Zahua/Nazpalca thing, since they have a shamanistic aspect, not neccesarily all monks. Anyway, I've been making a rogueish monk with PoE2 in mind which is supposed to be like a monk with rogueish attributes. Supposed to be a close quarter fighter with dual wielding stilettos and having martial arts techniques being used. Although the animation is much more stabbity stabbity stabbity than any sort of fluid martial arts-like movements. It's the Huana (with good relationship with the pirates I suppose) aligned pirate raider character I had been thinking about making for PoE2. Not sure whether I'll have it be Monk with multiclass Rogue or Rogue with multiclass Monk. -
I don't really care whether she becomes a companion or stays a sidekick or not. Though it does seem like she'd be useful, at least thematically, for quests or situations that involve crime and crime scene investigation, which I really doubt there will be many of. They kind of pigeonholed her with the background description.
-
Because she kind of looks like an anime character I guess? As for who, she's one of the 'sidekick' companions (which exists as a way to get around the slightly smaller party size), I'll try to find the Fig update that mentions her. https://www.fig.co/campaigns/deadfire?update=273#updates And yeah, she's Eoras answer to the coroners and investigators in crime dramas, and RL ones.
-
Yeah, I saw it mentioned in at least one Fig update. Maybe they only live in and near volcanoes, which would explain them not appearing in PoE1 (there is that hot spring and volcanic cave, but I guess that's not enough?), though Obsidian would have to retcon and somehow explain the fact that they aren't mentioned in PoE1 AFAIK.

I looked at the build list thread, saw that all of the druids were tanky types, so, I thought 'what about a Crowd Control Druid build?'. Hence the origin of my concept. There doesn't really seem to be an AI mode for CC druid though, but it seems to work with Hiravias, not sure how effective. I haven't made a new character to test it out just yet, though I have been levelling Hiravias as that idea, but here's a conceptualized build constructed from a hired companion up to level 14. I'm aware of the 'how to post builds' and seen how others do it, but as a concept, it's going to have holes. Race: Either Aumaua or Dwarf, but I kind of like Mountain Dwarf for this. Class: Druid Culture: Either Aedyr or Ixmatl Plains for the +1 resolve. Choice depends on how you want to flavor the character I suppose. Background: Hunter Attributes: 16 / 11 / 11 / 11 / 16 / 14 Abilities: Spiritshift boar (isn't meant to go into melee, but the endurance ability is a nice fallback). Spell Mastery: Nature's Mark Spell Mastery: Insect Swarm Spell Mastery: Infestation of Maggots Talents: Weapon focus: Adventurer (or Ruffian if using pistols) Marksman (gunner if using pistols) Mental Fortress Veterans recovery (maybe?) Bonus 3rd Level spell (because infestation of maggots is a nasty thing) Body Control Bonus 4th level spell (level 14 talent because I'm out of ideas) Equipment (a lot of unknown because I don't have experience yet with a druid character, and I'm not sure what this build would need in terms of equipment): Weapon: Warbows, either Borresaine or Cloudpiercer. Or maybe pistols? Boots: unknown Armor: Padded armor maybe? Gloves: unknown Cloak/Amulet: unknown head: unknown belt: unknown Rings: unknown

Fixing the monk.
smjjames replied to kensu's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The multiclassing in PoE2 will certainly help bypass any percieved issues and even complement existing capabilities that the Monk has. One of the companions, Xlotl, is a Priest/Monk multiclass combo, or maybe that just means her first class can be either monk or priest. Either way, multiclassing will add new opportunities and possibilities in builds.
