They stopped because of ESRB. Back in the late 80s and early 90s ESRB didn't exist. Congress threatens game developers that if they didn't come up with a rating system in a year or so, they will.

...my chances? I'll be 14 in two weeks and I've loved games ever since I played Mario on the old NES system when I was three and I've loved RPGs ever since I played Icewind Dale when I was eight. I don't know much about progamming mainly because I'm not the richist person in the world so I have to take whatever I can get. So far all I've been able to get is drawing (I'm getting pretty good at it) & photoshop. I have a old version old photoshop and I mess around with it alot (making siggys, avays, cloring random black and white pictures...). Next year in highscool I'll be able to take Pre-AP Computer Science I (for free) and I'll learn Java Basic. So is there anything else I can do to prepare myself to for the game indusrty?

Yes the Infinity Engine is dated but we severely need a some strategy games and the Diablo games are basically the only franchise left from that era that's similar to IWD and BG but the Diablo games have never been really a strategic type of games. Maybe you could redo it, make it 3-D. Maybe even give us the option to zoom in closer to look at our characters and when we add armor you can tell the difference.
