release date and current ship combat system
theBalthazar replied to mrmonocle's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Obsidian live in a world where there is : Assassin creed 4 black flag 2013 (5 years ago...) Age of wonders 3 - Battleship in sea 2014 (4 years ago...) https://youtu.be/Fadwt3ZoyGo?t=18m48s ----- So if this feature is a little more of anecdotic (main and regular mini-game), players will be disapointed. Problem : this game turn arround sea... So, Obsidian is forced to put a minimum... Textual / Sentences resolutions is often very limited... -
Yes 2 month is too short for deep modifications... In this case, it is better to abandon regular battle in sea, and marginalize it to a few interresting phases. Actually, don't 'work' for me (pleasure / Fun is not here), honestly. At worse, Obsidian can use an already known sure value : https://youtu.be/piobJmZY8To?t=22s (troll) SPLUSH !! SPLUSH !! BOOM !!
-
Ideally, this mini-game must be as attractive as Gwent (Witcher 3). Atm, he is not. Sorry Obsidian, but I must tell the true, even if hurts. I will have seen a strategic or even tactical aspect. A checkerboard would have been more conducive than sentences. (Fire emblem style) set of positions, set of resources. Something more worked! Each crew with stat. Add to a general pool ? Aarik the Captain : Defense +3. Josh the pirate : Speed +4. Special effects on each card (or characters here) Target specific area of foes ships etc. I don't know but a great system ! Here it is like the knife throwing of WM2 Gwent is the perfect exemple of perfect success of minigame. the cards are picked up in the main game, it is interesting and tactical. Not too long, not too short. And each phase is pure strategy. Here... it is... not the case... It is boring. Dice poker (witcher 1 and 2) was bad (too random). Pazaak was great (even if a little too random).

Assorted, consolidated feedback on the Deadfire beta
theBalthazar replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Why not Proficiency points replacing useless +1 proficiency ? And One weapon = 3 levels of proficiency possible. So, three points for the max. 1/3) Actual situation (New proficiency) 2/3) Down the malus (Upgrade+1) 3/3) Up the bonus (Upgrade+2) Concept of choice. This create ~2-3 real invested proficiency (3+3+2 = 8 pts of proficiency). Widely sufficient and more interresting. -
I agree with max. CONTAINERS AND DECLINATION 1 to 3 (ABILITIES) = DON'T STACK - Inspirations (Tenacious etc) - Afflictions (Paralysed etc.) Don't stack and include previous version of same type of inspiration. A good idea to remember it : a container only give once the bonus. I'm totally agree with that. CORE ABILITIES = STACK For me, a berserker must have a nominative Tenacious (outsource bonuses and remove the mention of inspiration). It is enough that a spell priest level 9 makes an easy buff perception+strength inspiration level 3, this criterion no longer has any interest. So it must remain unique. SPECIFIC NOMINATIVE BONUS (ABILITIES) = STACK - Attributes/4 defenses/Accuracy etc isolated. (Devotion of the faithful, Special Stances, auras etc.) 80 % of abilities of the game must stack. If not the player will start chasing the high values. Accuracy ? DEVOTION OF THE FAITHFUL !!! only, and I broke the game (no brain yes) etc. PROFICIENCIES = STACK - Modals (Half-Sword, With Tenacious for exemple etc) You create a new system, you cannot relegate that to a unimportant thing. Especially because there is a heavy counterpart (incidentally object of the an another debate otherwise) More, it is not clear for the casual players. One tool = one function. -------------- So for me, only "containers" don't stack because it is logical and comprehensive. The interrest is to connect containers + isolated bonuses. If not, the pleasure of multiclass is near to 0. (And in any case, with too much "don't stack rules", it would favor classes with the best active abilities, or best core abilities...)

Not really. Because there is the bottleneck effect and the over time effect. You are have true only if ennemy attack once. to access 10, you need a melee that attack. Which also potentially causes your death. But additionnal hit increase the effect over time. It is like HP VS Defense. The gain of defense is often less impressive, because there is here each hit. Defense is often "retarded HP preservation each hit" in a sense. So Cons 10 is not = +50 % damage received each hit. + reverse bottleneck effect. It is harder to intervene (healing) with there is this malus. the damage is coming in droves. If ever there are two enemies attacking in a short interval, very high risk of sudden death. All of this for a strict equity against cons and might (I take your word). No it is too much. So at worse, it is totally legit. But for me, the malus is too much highter ! 40 % seems to be wiedly sufficient... (4 x 10) Already risky at 25 % (5 wounds)... so 50 %... Too much. If you invest 10 pts in constitution, and less in might to compensate, it is already a bad deal. Less might at the start of the battle. And to take wound you must create a defensive team. So, at the end, it is a very bad deal. The only situation where this is good, is C.C. team, where you pick less wounds. Not crazy. Helwalker is overhype. A noob trap. Nalpazca is much more interresting (auto-wound + drug effects, and no limit at 5).
-
Yes but you have heavy counterpart. At 10 wounds = +50 % damage received. Berserker = confused.

Your Tiers List [Base Classes, Subclasses]
theBalthazar replied to theBalthazar's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Tiers list – Beta 3 - Until level ~9-10 GOD TIERS Devoted (Fighter) UP ! With Mule kick, Devoted gain an active ability with 25 % of damage. Good. TOP TIERS Berserker (Barbarian) Shifter (Druid) Unbroken (Fighter) UP ! Base Fighter UP ! Nalpazca (Monk) Base barbarian Base Monk Shattered pillar (Monk) Penalty too strong if not... It could be highter MID TIERS Base Druid Shieldbearer of St Elcga (Paladin) Bleak walker (Paladin) Goldpact knights (Paladin) Base Chanter Kind wayfarers (Paladin) Darcozzi Paladini (Paladin) Mage slayer (Barbarian) Assassin (Rogue) DOWN ! Nerf of assassinate. Stay a slightly better rogue, no more now. Base Rogue Troubadour (Chanter) Sharpshooter (Ranger) Beckoner (Chanter) Lifegiver (Druid) LOW TIERS Soul blade (Cipher) Fury (Druid) UP ! Problem solved with penetration. Street fighter (Rogue) Trickster (Rogue) Corpse eater (Barbarian) Helwalker (Monk) Good when multiclass but very bad deal (With 5 wounds : +15% damage AND +25 % more received damage WTF far too much…) Skald (Chanter) Ghost heart (Ranger) Stalker (Ranger) All priest (Wait the full list of spells but for now, problem of cast time, and absence of the famous +10 of accuracy which do the salt in POE1…) TRASH TIERS Black jacket (Fighter) Base Wizard All spe wizard Base Cipher Beguiler (Cipher) Ascendant (Cipher) -------------------------- 1) Sharpshooter bothers me because he cannot be melee characters. And it is not very fun with a ranged weapon. 2) Powerful : Devoted is not stopped by stacking rules with penetration, and stay very attractive. Mule kick give to him a complete pallet. 3) Discourage : See low / trash tiers : Globally casters, and WTF ratio Bonus/penlaties (Black jacket) or WTF concept (Stalker) 4) Not powerful : Casters spell duration seems always to be "irrationnal" in the course of the fight, even with -1s (and often with +1 recovery time !!). I don't change my mind. No move ! The "change" doesn't change anything again... 9 Seconds sometimes with full loss of the power source if interrupted ttss.... Length + even longer if it misses = something is always wrong with casters... 5) Black jacket, Stalker, Fury, Shifter, street fighter, ghost heart, nalpazca have great "background"/idea, good "essence". PS : Globally sorted with single class, that why Paladin is not much highter actually. (Same for Helwalker) -
Backer Beta Update 2 Patch Notes
theBalthazar replied to Aarik D's topic in Backer Beta Announcements
For a light armor with classic +20 % recovery Time. 20 (base) -7 (note with armored grace) = gap of 13 % of attack speed bonus. ------------- For a medium armor with classic +35 % recovery Time. 35 (base) -19 (note with armored grace) = gap of 16 % of attack speed bonus. ------------- For a heavy armor with classic +55 % recovery Time. 55 (base) -34 (note with armored grace) = gap of 21 % of attack speed bonus. ------------ So....^^ In others terms, A variable bonus according to armor ratio. More heavy is armor, more the bonus is effective ? So for me, it is more 40 % of armor recovery is suppressed. (55 * 0.4 = 22) (120 % or 25 % is irrelevant ?) -
Hello, Personnally, I have a problem with stacking rules. Warrior stance + Zealous focus = suppressed by Devotion for the faithful and each others. three investments/three abilites points : only one return. Half-sword (Proficiency) + Tenacious = suppressed. etc etc So... I think we going to a wrong direction. The essence of Pillars 2 is fun of Multiclass associations. The main fun, for me. If everything is locked up, the search for good/original associations no longer exists. Question for you, what is the point to pick up zealous focus or warrior stance if devotion for the faithful remplace totally them ? A minor bonus before casting ? For one ability point ? Without me. The ultimate FUNCTION of chose x or y abilities ? I prefer take another ability now... AND maybe even another class. (Worse case : Paladin+Fighter and an external devotion of the faith. Loss ? 2 abilities points useless....) A don't stacking rule create dead abilities ! and make the highest values always the best choices. Monk + Berserker ? Tenacious+Tenacious Supressed. One ability useless. Fighter + Paladin ? Warrior stance + Zealous focus Supressed. One ability useless. Why if I take half sword I create a bad build with the boost of tenacious (berserker / Monk atm). Stay only a malus of deflection (-20 so not a little amount...) For me, it is a bad decision. We do that when we do not control his game system and we do not know how to balance. It attack creativity. It is not good. And if it is for single class balance... There a better way : ---------- Because there is a another problem. Nerf of paladin is good for me... For multiclasses. For single, not particulary. There is a shift. The perfect tool is yet Power level. Flame of devotion Accuracy 20 Fire Damage : 20 % [+x % by power level] Single class : 50 % at level 20 (+30 %) Multiclass : 35 % at level 20 (+15 %) Balanced. ----------------- EDIT : Let's talk of an another exemple. A concrete exemple, made by obsidian himself. I am player of Tyranny and there is an ability in Power Category. Stance : Might. [+4 penetration, don't stack] I have NEVER took this stance. Why ? Because once I have understand that magic give a widely better boost of penetration (From memory +11 ?), this little tool become totally useless. End of the game. This stance will NEVER, never serve. So, this stance is only a trap, for newbie, no more...

Backer Beta Update 2 Patch Notes
theBalthazar replied to Aarik D's topic in Backer Beta Announcements
-25 % armored grace malus of recovery = 16 % of action speed. (+35 % recovery) 13 % of action speed (+20 % recovery) Anyone understand the formula ? It seems to be more 50 % of [35 %] So the description is not clear. It is more 50 % of actual value of armor ? -
Or it is a pure loss... -20 deflection. And no bonus. For me, there is a big problem. Ok, you are a hardcore gamer, you will never take the modal of half sword. But if I am a 10 years old child, I am only punish by a malus, I am a casual gamer and I don't understand what's happening. And if I understand after a moment, I will don't understand why I wasted my proficiency for that. Bad build ? The suppressed is also hidden, it must be done a precise action to see it.
-
Yes but in this case you lose a "possibility" with fighter. it's a lack of equity between classes. Same thing for Half-sword and Tenacious (Berserker and others). Obsidian does not seem to want to fix it. It's a choice, but during that time, the devoted him can stack. (Half sword penetration bonus + Devoted penetration bonus) Rules of stacking must be simple. This stacking rule punishes associations. Associations which is THE new thing of the pillars 2, namely multiclassing.
-
1) Avoid Bad build. If a 9 years old child take two talents = pure loss. 2) If there are immunities like you said (Form of the delemgan etc etc.), my proposition is not OP. You pay it each time (race + one talent). 3) Logical reason. You have one concept, willy step + unstoppable, with two different name. But don't stack. IF we stay with "no stack" : I am totally OK, but in this case, give them the same name !...^^ It is more comprehensive for players... (actually it is only a cosmetic change of name ...)
-
On a "Halt" (Priest Spell level 1) - Dexterity affliction of level 2, With the two bonuses, I am only at Hobbled (level 1) So they don't stack.
-
Hello, Very simple idea. I am an Elf. I am a Fighter. WILLY STEP + UNSTOPPABLE = Resistance to dexterity affliction x 2 = Down of 2 level the affliction. Example ACTUALLY Foe use HALT (Dexterity affliction level 2) on me = Dexterity affliction level 1. (2 - 1 = 1) POSSIBLE CHANGE Foe use HALT (Dexterity affliction level 2) on me = No effect. (2 - 2 = 0) -------------------------- Why ? Because if not, what is the interest to take this bonus twice ?

Backer Beta Update 2 Patch Notes
theBalthazar replied to Aarik D's topic in Backer Beta Announcements
- Flame of devotion change is good for multiclass, but bad for single. For me an ideal solution would be to submit flame of devotion at power level like 20 % + [x% power level] (PL 20+30 % max for single classes. 20+15 % max for multiclasses = 50 % or 35 %) - Stacking rules. Always a suppressed tenacious with +2 penetration Sword modal. (become useless) - Miasma (eg) +1 second. LOL. Everybody say caster are slow, obsidian add 1 second to few spells : p - Calling the world maw (eg). Yes... -1 second. Always awfully slow.... - People generally dislike RPG like Pillars because too much slow speed. Here, here it will not help them to love this style. + I am now OK to stay with STR/RES change, except with a better idea in Resolve. -

Weapon balance and comparision after 2/2/18 patch
theBalthazar replied to KDubya's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yes, seemingly. A good news. It is Far of 66 % of POE1, but I think it is better than 5-9 raw damages. For 30 % fire damage of the Paladin, I think it is a good thing for multiclass (was crazy before), but a loss for solo. Problem is : if you add speed with you paladin = win (multiclass). But Single classes doesn't have this possibility, so 50 % fire damage wasn't crazy for them. I remember in POE1, 1.06 boost flame of devotion for this reason. -

Refunded my Deadfire pledge, here's why...
theBalthazar replied to Jojobobo's topic in Obsidian General
Problem is : KOTOR 2 / KOTOR 1 Sorry but KOTOR 1 is far less buggy than KOTOR 2... Neverwinter nights 2 / Neverwinter nights 1. Same here. I remember Pillars 1. After patch 3.0. A "famous" bug in Galawain's maw. = Not possible for me. All allies attack each others and everyone. Impossible to end the quest. After more than 8 patches you can not propose that... Tyranny. Patch 1.2 (AND 2 extensions !). I cannot end a side quest ! With a buggy woman seller at Lethian crossing etc ETC ETC^^ So much buggy, that they had to urgently propose a new patch 1.2.1... (el famoso patch of the patch = unending) That why there is a reputation... And a basic buyer laughs at the patches, he will judge the first version 1.0, the same for the critics. I do not care, personnally I support Obsidian. But to go beyond the glass ceiling, you have to make an effort on the bugs... It's not always the fault of others. -
Refunded my Deadfire pledge, here's why...
theBalthazar replied to Jojobobo's topic in Obsidian General
Obsidian have a problem with bugs. It is a fact. I read a lot of english and french forums. Casual / Hardcore gamers give their opinions. Obsidian have a good reputation. Hardcore gamers respect them. ...but also famous for buggy games. It is a fact, so I understand the position of jojobobo. It can annoy or scare you, after a while. I think that Obsidian should think about a more effective strategy to avoid bugs, and especially the addition of new bugs with patches updates.
