Moving to Kotor2 General since this does not deal with spoilers.

Hell would be quite the preferable place to spend eternity in if that was the case.

For soundcards get Creative's Sound Blaster X-FI. I use the Audigy 2 ZS which I am very happy with, great sound, no static. The X-Fi is suppose to be better. Visit their website. I really do not know much about speakers. I use Logitech 5.1 surround sound speakers and they perfom very good.

RPG Codex is up and running. I see no reason for this to stay open. Memento Mori.

I see no reason for an upgrade in OS software. I am quite happy with Windows XP.

Classical music is alive and well. All you need to do is listen to the wonderful music from movie soundtrack scores. John Williams, Howard Shore, Wojciech Kilar, Basil Poledouris and Jerry Goldsmith to name a few composers who have written great sounding classical music in our era.

I have had that problem sometimes in the game, not there though. Usually you just have to move around until the game corrects itself or reload.

Good luck in finding it. Thanks to the random loot generator you can go through many game plays and not find some items, yet gain a lot of others as you found out with the pistols.
