Yeah, I tried it but it didn't really appeal to me, I think it was TB too though? I watched a few YT channels playing it and I didn't feel like it was my kid of game - also the brightly coloured outline around each character was distracting. Also there was an annoying bug (maybe Linux related) where each character I pressed was entered twice during character creation. So if I called my PC "Rimmer" his name would be "RRiimmeerr", I liked all the classes and options but I found the interface overwhelming. Also it didn't work well on my intel HD 520 integrated GPU... if I ever get a more powerfull laptop I shall try again.

Just in time for my retirement... hope I can afford the computer needed then to play the spiritual success to pillars of eternity. I'm hoping a games company will start a new kickstarter project creating a baldurs gate style crpg, as someone who played the original BG games when they came out I shant be playing BG3 since I don't like TB, but may watch others who play it on YT.

Most weapons are not effective against people with armour, the idea that swords can chop through plate or chain over gambeson is propagated by hollywood. If armour were so ineffective it would never have been worn. I would recommend you signup to the scholagladiatoria channel on youtube if you want to learn more about the realities of weapons and armour. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt14YOvYhd5FCGCwcjhrOdA Here are some good videos about english armour with Dr Capwell from the wallace collection https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=DE+0%3A04+%2F+25%3A39+Capwell+%26+Easton%3A+A+medieval+knightly+effigy+in+Dennington%2C+Suffolk

I had a priest of berath using a summned great sword which comes with a corrode lash. I also had Pallagina with that FoD ability that gives nearby allies a burning lash. This actually replaced the lash on my summoned great sword so it did burn damage instead of corrode. Not sure if this is a bug or how lashes work

The companions were not as good, I miss durance and the druid. PoE1 had better weapons spread... a lot of weapon groups are almost empty of good uniques in deadfire. Also that island dlc was crap, just fighting - all though Muātu trinket isn't bad, especially if you always choose to empower him, he can really kick arse if you do that... They should have spent more time on something like the white march with a real story.

I think the setting was the big killer... it went form a classic roleplaying world to treasure island - at first it didn't really seem like the same world. As for Chris... he is hardly a legend and absolutely not a household name. I doubt you would find any houses where he was known. When I was growing up the legends and household names were the bitmap brothers... but still not a household name. Where are these legends now??? I bought the PoE1 and 2 mainly becuase of BG, I really like them and think they are much better than BG2 - The best thing PoE did was not make classes/weapons required. BG2 pretty much required a thief if you wanted to open locks/disarm traps and if you were playing a paladin you better sure as hell have selected two-handed swords or you're going to regret it later. I really hope there is PoE3 as long as they keep RTWP otheriwse I shall probably just wait for BG3. I also think the lack of a archetypal good path also didn't help. Sawyer seems to like being evil and giving bonuses to bad dudes, just look at all the stat bonuses bad guys received in PoE1 for killing NPCs. Then there was tyranny where every one is bad, and in deadfire all the fractions are bad or neutral... at least from my perspective. I play these games to be a hero and save people, not sacrifice friends and rob people! It's for this reason I never played bad and joined the thieve's guild in BG2.
