Question: Arcane Cleanse
Boeroer replied to brasilgringo's question in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Ah ok. Good to know enemies also profit from that auto-hits weirdness. I tend to play interrupt-heavy. Maybe that's why I seldomly see those (lengthy) high level spells taking effect. Also Arcane Dampener (as reported by others to be a major pain in the backside) doesn't bother me a lot. I guess that sigil is just an oversight? Did you try to hit it with a Mage Slayer? -
You will get hit with a chanter as he can't stack as much defenses as other classes can. So it's totally fine. My chanter build that relies on self healing and only had okish defenses (Chillfog build, see the build list) could solo most encounters easily just by outhealing the enemies and release an invocation from time to time while chucking a potion of vital essence if he must. Key here was that healing bonuses like that from "Mercy and Kindness" also apply to potions of infused with Vital Essence and also to Wound Binding, giving you back a lot (if no all) your health (not speaking about endurance here). Combined with good defenses you will be fine. Veteran's Recovery, paired with Ancient Memory and Ancient Spirits is actually not bad. Especially when combined with Mercy and Kindness. Veteran's Recovery with high MIG might not be enough in long fights because Vet Recovery has a fixed duration and it's not that long. Potion consumption is often interrupted by buggy behavior. However, it is indeed crucial to not get hard-cc'd for a long time. Adragans with their long lasting petrity and Lagufaeth with Blowdarts can be really dangerous for a solo guy because even a graze can mean death. Luckily there are items (Fenwalkers, Aila Braccia and so on) that help. Do not only look for increased defenses but also at reduced afflicton duration (Fenwalkers, potion of recovery, Blaidh Golan). Those can really save the day. A trick for Chanters: in encounters where you get proned or stunned (Ogres for example): wear Blaidh Golan and Little Savior: the enhantments stack and leave you with +100 to all defenses while you are cc'd. Dragon Thrashed will continue to work when prone. If you dump a summon and then cast Withdraw on yourself (Black Sanctuary Shield) you can make yourself immune to any damage and attacks while Dragon Thrashed still works. If you switch to a one-handed weapon the chant will even get +12 ACC. It's a good "oh sh!it" button.

Oh, you are right. I just wondered why the defenses are SO low... Played him only for 2 hours or so now and am still finding stuff out with him. Ben Fidel is actuall way better than I thought. I took it because of Willbreaker (has good enchantments that trigger when enemies are shaken/frightened/terrified). I have to admit I never used Konstanten before and only did so because I'm playing SSS again at the moment. But after trying out a few things and coming up with this "debuffing" combo: the crit rate is astonishing (at this stage of the game where all his key abilites are online) - but the best part is that laughter. Jeez - I always find myself chuckling during fights because that guy debuffs stress so hard with his hysterical low timbre guffaw. And my own MC has a similar voice and also likes to laugh from time to time in combat. Not as joyfully, but together it's so much fun. Like Barry White and his brother beating up some thugs in an alley while having the fun of their lives... My wife came over to my desk last evening and wanted to know what's so funny.

Huh? Maybe they did something with WotEP so that it works now. They surely did something because its AoE doesn't transport afflictions from abilities like GOuging Strike, Stunning Surge etc. anymore. Somebody did some tinkering and it didn't end well. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/107888-bug-citzals-lance-not-working-with-affliction-causing-abilities/

You can use mine: https://www.dropbox.com/s/aksyw0xfuchc1fd/Hyleon%20%28TempleofToamowhai%29%20%28f9c897b3-bd46-4c0e-9148-d236ebfea8c2%29%20%28LAX-123ABCDEFG%29%20%28947299715%29.savegame?dl=0 You will find my MC Monk standing in front of some dummies. He has Spirit Lance equipped. Combat hasn't started yet (obviously). If you use Stunning Surge on the dummies you will notice that only the initial target gets stunned AND also only the initial target gets Resonances from Resonant Touch. Switch to Hand Mortars (first weapon set). Use Stunning Surge and observe how all dummies get stunned and all get Resonances from Resonant Touch. This is how Citzal's etc. worked before this bug (I hope it's a bug).

Question: Arcane Cleanse
Boeroer replied to brasilgringo's question in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Did you experience a wizard who was casting Arcane Cleanse on you? I didn't. I guess your biggest concern atm is that your latest build might not be able to resist everything...? Fair enough - however, I tested Arcane Cleanse just for you and here are the factual results (4.0.1): - It's an auto-hit (like Thrust of Tattered Veils and Minor Missiles) - It can't be reflected because it's not a targeted spell but an (friendly fire) AoE spell; in fact the reflection spell will get removed as well. - It can be resisted by Spell Resistance (like from Xoti's Lantern, Mage Slayer passive, the general passive ability and so on - chances stack multiplicatively, meaning that 20% & 20% don't result in 40% but rather get evaluated one after the other which means 0.8*0.8-1 = 36%) Neutral bystanders will see this as an offensive spell and turn hostile if they get hit. Since it's friendly fire and the AoE is huuuge you can easily hit your party members and bystanders with it accidentially. Since there are other spells that have no attack resolution (see above) and since that's intended I guess it's the same case here. But there have been cases where devs simply forgot to add the attack resolution (Charge for example) and patched it in later. This may also be the case here. This last part is open to discussion. You are welcome missus. edit: terrible typos -
You have to opt out of the master branch and into beta branch. Your game usually runs on the master (stable/release) branch. CHanges of the beta become master at some point - and your game gets updated accordingly. If you switch to the beta branch you can play the game with the newest beta patch, but it might be unstable and your game will not get updated to the master braches' new (stable) version once it arrives. You'll have to opt out of the beta then and back into the master. You can do this with two clicks or so in Steam.

Great Swords that are especially powerful? -
Yeah, those are the ones I tested recently that didn't scale. ALso Chanter's Skeletons don't scale. I didn't try Watery Double or Substantial Phantom. Matau (the spirit Barb from SSS) also scales properly.

Don't know if he's my favorite (dpends on the enemy of course), but at the moment I'm using a fun build with Konstanten as a Barbarian/Skald with WIllbreaker/Body Blows, Spirit Frenzy, Thunder Rolled upgrade, Ben Fidel's upgrade, Barb Shouts and the Weakening chant. Fortitude drops so low... until now I haven't met a foe whose fortitude was higher than deflection after everything hit him. Brute Force pays off every time. I don't even know if the -2 MIG from the Weakening Chant stacks with the -5 MIG from Stunned/Staggered... It's -45 -55 Fortitude (-25 from Body Blows, -10 from Stunned or Staggered, -10 from Weakened (-4 from Weakening chant maybe?) edit: and -10 from Ben Fidel's) and -15 Deflection (-10 from Ben Fidel's upgrade, -5 from Shaken). At the same time he interrupts on crit (Barb's passive ability) and 25% on hit (Willbreaker). And an occasional Eld Nary (targets Fortitude!) rounds the picture.

Ah right. Sabre modal might does not stack with Thunderous Blows. Thunderous Blows will get suppressed. I forgot. +30% additive (unfortunately yes) damage from Overpenetration is exactly 4.8 points of damage with sabres per hit - minus the 35% from Full Attack. And you have to have double PEN. Which is difficult to get against high AR targets. Even against lowish ones it's not guaranteed. Building one's dps on overpenetration is ineffective - even if you hit 6 or even 10 times in a row (high level enemies laugh about those numbers). The goal of Driving Echoes is to prevent underpenetration/to ensure penetration, not to generate overpenetration. Against high AR targets Driving Echoes is very good, espacially if you have somebody who can generate a lot of attack rolls in a short time (usually AoE). Against normal mobs it's a waste of casting time (and focus if you're not ascended). It's kind of a niche ability. Using it all the time indiffrently is ineffective. For attacking bosses with Whispers of the Wind you'll need at least one ad (that doesn't die instantly or hte jumping stops). Then half of your jumps will hit the boss - which can be very effective. This is a case where Driving Echoes pays off on a monk. Or when only the boss is still standing and you attack him with single-target-attacks. And still I think it's a waste on a monk most of the time. I would nearly always try to give it to a caster since those struggle the most with PEN and at the same time are those who can usually hit the most enemies in a given time (excluding single Barbs or Monks with mortars or other shenanigans of that sort). However... ... still makes no sense, no matter how often I read it.
