  1. Those restrictions came from Gygax’s origins for creating the specialty classes. He saw Pallies as the LG Holy Warrior, Assassins as poor evil, Druids as the TN Priest type and Barbarians as the Chaos Warriors. Because of those restrictions he kept them out of the MC systems. You can read writings on his memoirs on the ‘why’.
  2. This was discussed last year/two years ago in one of the threads. It’s what inspired me to try it. And it’s what inspired me to try it again, class-marathon Style, last night. Just choose a Background with Mechanics to make sure you get both potions. Bleak Walker I felt was easy with Watbow and Pike. Fighter is too easy as he ends up with a ton of heal sources. Monk is easy as well. Barb is tougher than I thought as he gets chewed on really fast. Was able to win thru but barely. I ended up going Aumaua for the extra weapon slot, using two battle/sword dual and only strategically used pike or bow to avoid letting a tougher contender face me. Made me feel like Tyson in his prime as was ducking larger/stronger opponents. Rogue I couldn’t do. He just is too soft, even brigantine and a Shield. Chanter is a breeze as stated above. Cipher is also easy as stated above. Wizard is tough but doable. Brigadine, Shield , Chillfog and Flame spell, Slicken and blast. Max Might and Int. Priest..... ugh. Don’t see the path to master slaughterer. Anyone else accomplish this feat with a Priest? Ranger with a Bear. Super Easy. Pike and Warbow. 18 in Str, Dex and Per. Stag Druid. Took a few tries but once Odema was killed at range I healed and then went Stag on the rest of the bunch. Went with 16 Str, 14 Dex, 16 Per. Hide Armor. Warbow, Quaterstaff. Unleashed the lightning then Warbow then Stag form. This was PotD. Any other difficulty should be a breeze.
  3. With Constant Recovery you give him a lighter Armour and go for Zero Recovery. He should Crit a lot with daggers. The key is picking weapons that add status effects as your damage per hit won’t be top notch.
  4. Yes, all Infinity games. Found them to be awesome game experiences. ToEE was another great game, with the Co8 mod an even better experience. The Keep on the Borderlands mod was a stroll back to memory lane as it was the first table top module I played as a young teenager. RoA series was also time consuming hours of joy! As was Darklands. Have not touched Drakensang as a good friend gave it a bad review. But I am willing to try it. I found Dragon Age to be way overrated so I never completed it or it’s sequel. Darkest Dungeon I have repeatedly taken a look at but the look of it seems.... almost lame. Legend of Grimrock games seem just like more of all school Wizardry/Eye of the Beholder styled dungeon delving. Anyone know how deep the story is?
  5. Revisited Age of Wonder, playing head to head with my bro. Tons of fun. Also I’m revisiting TripleA scenarios. Enjoying the NWO 1939 scenario. Actually struggling as the Axis. On the side I am giving hints he to my 10 yr old in Shining Force 2 on Genesis. What a great game!
  6. Looking for something new. Medieval Fantasy, party-based games. I have already tackled the below list. Every D&D and AD&D game ever made for PC except for Demon Stone and the latest game, forget the name.... All Ultima Games All Wizardry games All Bard’s Tale games All Might & Magic games All Realms of Arkania games Pillars of Eternity with expansions Arcanum KotoR Kotor2 Thinking about Tyranny or Tides of Numenera.... Is there anything worthwhile on Steam or GoG? Any feedback is welcome. Thanks!
  7. Don’t forget that crowd-funding is helping to keep them, the devs, working. So of course they will try to please all the backers. It’s the ‘inherent problem in the system’ which causes all the board violence and creates our PoE fan repression.
  8. Never tried but I would bet a Wizard with Chillfog or a Cipher would have an easy time doing it. Or possibly a Stag Drud. A high Con/Perception/Resolve Fighter with a Battle Axe and Shield s would handle it as well. What I would like to see is someone do it with a Rogue! That would be impressive.
  9. Did this a long time ago with a Coastal Aumaua Bleak Walker wielding a pike and wearing Brigadine. You can tuck yourself in next to the horses. One at a time. Let a weakling caravan person stand in front of you and attack the second row. Save Flames of Devotiin for Odema.
  10. When talking builds/tactics there is the variable of ‘vs. what type of fights’ that should be included in the discussion. I use drugs/potions only in the toughest encounters and only if I can’t beat a fight after upteen attempts as I prefer/take more pride in not needing them to overcome obstacles. I usually have the ‘Real Heroes don’t need consumables’ mentality. They just need a sword!
  11. They are situationally good against foes who are weaker vs Crushing damage types. That’s it. But you are right, your options are limited at best.
  12. Estocs are fine. The White Spire causes disorienting for I believe 5 seconds per Hit. So speed him up to help lockdown a foe. Gauntlets of Swift Action, Durgan Steel, potions of DAOM, etc.... The best two handlers are Greatswords, but there are good Estocs that can be end game weapons. Blade of the Endless Paths is an excellent weapon for example.
  13. Failing is only powerful, if the decision was made knowing full well risks and rewards. The example I gave wasn’t exciting it was frustrating. Playing without walkthrough should be more exciting, not frustrating. I might be scarred for life by playing Rick Dangerous as a kid on Comodore 64. You want to have a bad time, because you didn’t know what’s ahead of you? Give this a go: http://www.arcadedivision.com/classicgame27/platform/rick-dangerous.html First run through is the real experience. It’s like saying a level design isn’t confusing if you know how to beat it. You shouldn’t encourage players to replay your game by sabotageing their first experience, rather make it interesting enough and give it depth so they want experience it again/try different approach. Not really... or better yet, only partially true. The replay is just a different type experience. So the Axe example is good for the first playthru OR for those who want the RP type of game experience on every playthru. But does not hold for those who don’t care about the RP experience as much as they care about conquering the game, finding every Easter eggs, etc...in subsequent replays. So the Devs need to figure out their target and aim for it. I’m good either way as I see some benefits in both options and a perfect scenario in neither. Though if the choice was left up to me and only me..... I would choose a large inventory to be consistent with the first game.
  14. The Axe example is only good for the players first run through the game. After that he now knows.... what would be the point in limiting it then? Devs WANT you to replay so of course they are going to create the option that makes replay the easiest decision for a player.
  15. Great! Would you like to post your starting build? Id like to try it out Borreal Dwarf Deadfire Arch Drifter M - 15 C - 10 D - 14 P - 14 I - 10 R - 15 ( I never dump stats below 8...) Blinding Strike Dual Wielding Sabre/ Club Early game isn’t bad once you reach level 5. Avoid the major fights. Crank up stealth to avoid the spirits in the Caed Nua throne room. Add Vets recovery and Fulvanos Amulet found in Margan’s Fork asap.
  16. Ha ha. Lets assume you want to write scripted interaction with option of physical strong character doing something. Please give me different attribute to use... Easy. Athletics. That is LITERALLY what Athletics is. Athletics' been used for situations that'd require agility rather than strength and prolly rightfully so; a fat person is not athletic but can be strong. Being fat has nothing to do with being athletic.
  17. I am PotD soloing Rogue ‘Pirate’ Build right now. Just reached level 11. Using the three new armors, switching depending on encounter. Using Fulvanos BB to open, both the Sabre and Club as a dual wield but switching to Firebrand when necessary. The build is beastly so far. Complete the endless paths except for the Adra Dragon. Entering WM now. No encounter gave me real trouble. With deathblows, Savage Attack, Reckless Assualt, wiping everything.
  18. Dual wielding should give less attack speed bonus and maybe a small deflection bonus.
  19. If he is heavily armored they will ignore him. Try leather or mail and no shield. If that doesn’t work, try clothing. Also, armour up your Squishies in the back row. The AI will ignore heavies if you have squishies.
  20. To be honest it looks like nothing but a teensy-weensy Fire Giant’s dagger.
  21. Maybe they should just make pistols ‘melee-able’ as weaker clubs that do crush/pierce damage....
