I used Chill Fog more. -
I find auto-attacking for most of the game the very definition of tedious. T1/2 spells should unlock per-encounter earlier than 9/11 respectively. At that point the camping issue is not a problem for me then. Ive beat the game on PoTD btw, so this isn't a difficulty issue...rather a "fun" issue.

Wiz t1/t2 really need to be per encounter at much lower levels now after these changes Someone make that mod -
Well with the new versions, per-encounter teir1 should be at a much lower level then. This way Wiz is more fun to play with the current camp supply mechanic and not OP either.

Meh, all this does is making a PC wizard boring to play. And after their major nerf next patch, I won't even consider playing one w/out a unlimited camp mod. How was spamming two lvl 1 spells fun? If you read the patch notes, they did say other spells were tuned up. At least on Hard, I"m constantly at 2 supplies and keep finding more supplies I can't even loot because I'm full. I know which spells were tuned up. They aren't worth much. How is spamming wand for a majority of combat time fun?

Unlimited rest option?
Parsong replied to jaydee.2k's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
This. I beat POTD with no problems. No, I didn't find this rest mechanic "hard". All it did was make me go through more load screens or make my Wizard spam auto attack for a majority of the game, which is bad design. If the load screens weren't so Obsidian long or if Wizard had good per encounter abilities....then it would be a different story. But all it does is create a nuisance, not difficulty. The game was a breeze. -

Yeah this makes Wizards suck pretty bad early on. Their power creep is marginally larger than every other class though still from my experience; especially considering the other classes took some nerfs. Druid is already much better and took no nerfs. With Wizards t1/2 spells being so bad after 1.3, they should be encounter based at the very start. -
I beat PoTD with ease. All the PoE Rest system did was make my Wizard have almost no alternate build options + spam auto-attack for 90% of the game. It also made backtracking annoying due to the long load times. The BG/IWD Rest version is better hands down. Meh, all this does is making a PC wizard and long dungeons boring to play. And after their major nerf next patch, I won't even consider playing one w/out a unlimited camp mod.

Slicken spell is now a single hit AoE. Chill Fog is now a friend or foe spell. That was the only reason to even think about having a Wizard in the party. I'm not even going to try playing one until a all encounter-spell or permanent-rest mods are made now. -
I beat the game on potd. I don't think a mod that made resting like BG/IWD would hurt the game, it would just open up more preist/druid/wizard builds and make you suffer less long load screens.

I run the party you listed, and i destroy everything. I might replace the Priest with another Cipher or Rogue. Chanter is worth it for the buff and he himself can do nice dmg w/ the ranged talents and weapon. I know everyone says Druid>Wizard, but I prefer Wizard at level 9. Chilling Fog DoT seems to stack and you can place quite a few before the battle.
-
I honestly wouldn't put Fire God-Like anywhere near my personal list, because in my parties barely no one ever takes damage. To let my tank get 50% would mean I have to significantly nerf him. And if he's not a tank, why is he in the front line taking damage? Counter-Intuitive, (one of the reason monk is a chore in this game). CC stack/Deflect stack = too good. But anyways, 1. Wild Orlan 2. Wood Elf 3. Harth Orlan.

-Shapeshift is 100% garbage after first 2-3 levels. IT reduces your stats. When I shapeshift at level 5 druid merc my DR/HP/Deflect/Acc/Dmg all go lower. It's set in stone and doesn't use your gear. It's real bad. -Druid spells are amazing. He makes hard fights easier. I wouldn't make a party without at least 1 druid or wizard. -Druid suffers from the same issue as Priest/Wizard. You'll forget you even had a Player_Character until level 9 (Per encounter spells open). He will be autoattacking for a majority of the game unless you like to camp/back-track a lot for the smaller fights (With these load times? No thanks). You can mostly only build as caster due to this, as you can't use those super cool melee weapon summons or melee buffs since they are per rest...so you can't really BUILD for them. At level 9/11 this is less of an issue, but that is way off. This is a game design issue, neither of the 3 classes were given good enough per encounter abilities early on. Don't get me wrong, Wizard and Druid are gods 9+, but that is like 30 hour of auto-attack and not even clicking your Player_Character with the occasional spell spam on bosses/events. All in all, it's up to you. If you want a more involved caster early on go Cipher. If you want caster who becomes involved and more powerful later on go Druid.
-
My most optimal so far has been: Cipher, Cipher, Chanter, Wizard - all with penetrating/gunner. Only one without marksman is Wizard. As many Woody Elfs as you can. Two tanks (Pally/Fighter), no need for Priest. I'm the Wizard, but even if I wasn't I'd still bring one no matter what. Stacking multiple slick/chill in front of an enemy group before we all fire is just.....MUCH better than the paladin dps buff imo.

Easy Mode is to hard
Parsong replied to Judah's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The game can be hard at first few hours. But then easy the other 30+ This is why you have two threads saying the opposite -
Hard mode is too easy.

If you don't mind me asking why Ranger? Best ranged single target dps? Did your two wizards just use the encounter attacks and wand for most battles? -
First I wanted to know if this was even viable on Hard, or if Paladin should only be a pure tank. If not, what is the best DPS Pally? I'm thinking 2H specialization, starting off with a Arqueblast flame shot, and then switching to 2H and using that switch time for my Tank to get melee aggro. Whats a good stat spread and Paladin style.
