  1. maybe on normal difficulty but chanters have the highest potential of any character per fight because they have stamina. if most of your fights dont last lost enough to make use of the chanter then your fights arent challenging enough, My fights reguarly last more than 30 seconds (PoTD solo) and you really see chanters come into their own in longer fights, sure if you wanna nuke down an enemy other classes are better but if you want to reliably grind an enemy down then chanters are super OP
  2. Thing of it is, even if you didn't have a personal rule against dumping stats, you still probably don't wanna do it on PotD anyways. it depends, i find that dumping int on a chanter that stays in melee range is worthwhile as you will always hit mobs and allies near you and durations matter very little to you. But i tae you point, in general dumping a stat is almost always a bad idea
  3. Thats just not true. at dex three you reduce your chanter to nothing more than a summoning/buff machine. There are several viable builds for chanters so saying that the only way to play them is to dump dex is pretty narrow minded. For example if you dump int you have more than enough points to make them relatively tanky but if you dump dex you lose a lot of dps for not much gain elsewhere. Itdepends how you play them and how you level them up. At 3 dex you're making an off-tank chanter. yea you are, if you dump both int and dex you can make a quite tanky chanter for the front line, i wasnt saying that dumping dex was particuarly bad just that it isnt the only way to build a chanter.

  5. His build could certainly be improved but it isnt unworkable, i mean he has way too much inteligence between the group IMO, and why he would give a chanted dexterity is beyond me but given that PoTD is just about possible with one highly optimised toon its probably not that hard to do it with a full group even if they arent 100% optimised. Well to be fair, I used item spells/scrolls far more often than innovacations on Kana. So Dexterity isn't completely lost on them if you still want to wear the heavy stuff. I dont mean that you should dump dex on a chanter but raising it above 10 is very ineffective, i am a heavy scroll user and at dex ten they cast more than fast enough, its not like you can bring more than 16 scrolls to a fight, and in solo you are gonna want at least one figurine
  6. Tbh sinking 2 points into athletics is sooooo worth it, i put it off till i was level 6 or so and the difference in how much money i spent on camping supplies was monumental, its not even funny, 3 points into athletics reduces your combat fatigue by 80% lol. As it is ive got: 3 stealth 2 athletics 7 lore 8 mechanics 2 survival. Most fights i either avoid entirely or attack straight on (well with kiting and summons but still) so stelath isnt that helpful, 7 lore lets me use level 3 scrolls and it is so worth it, msot fights i go in with 1-2 figurines and 2 stacks of scrolls depending what resistances im fighting the lightingning ball one is sooo good against people in armor.

  8. you wont find that many, its not so much that you need them, its more that your accuracy tanks and fights become even slower, trust me when you start going against harder mobs you are gonna want to maximise your dps, my chanter is full tank and his dps is abysmal, ive put all my eggs in that level 3 chants for aoe fire damage
  9. I always go chanter but that may be coz my first run with a pally left me utterly underwhelmed with them, like fair enough he tanked well but he did nothingelse lol
  10. Well im doing ToI so exploiting that trick isnt really in the spirit of ironman. Korgrak is settling in nicely, making new friends and all, here is a pic for a size comparison, im a wild orlan. Now he is better fed he doesnt go raiding for pig herds, which is lucky considereing my new pet piglet
  11. There are other second chance items, tbh i dont the second chance is really worth it, if you died once you will die again, id rather an item that healed me than one that brought me up, but i guess it would give leeway, it would probably work with second chance tbh, the game doesnt end untl your entire party is down, a couple of times ive had very close calls and the summons saved my life, its why even if im winning i make a point of hiding my summons off to the side, I thinkf this is exploitable as well but ive avoided doing so, but on my practice run it seemed to work but no chance am i risking it for my iron run, too far now to go back if i die now i think ill just give up lol (hide summons off to side and you rez when the encounter 'ends' even if you are dead)
  12. Trick of the day- Korgrak the big friendly giant: In the cave on dyrford crossing for the farmers plight mission, if you can make it to the south east corner and talk to korgrak you can befriend him and offer him to stay in your stronghold, I then thought if this guy is working for me lets see how tough he is: results below, to get him to follow me i just agroed spiders into his vision, he really doesnt seem to like spiders that much pull a spiderling and i notice he doesnt need much provokation to come and lend me a big (and i mean massive, like pretty much as big as me) hand So I took him for a walk, its time for the ogre to earn his keep! I may have trapped myself on the wrong side of the fight (i cast wurms behind him in case I died so tat it wouldnt be game over if i did die to the spider swarm) Infestation cleared, i came close to dying but Korgrak earned his keep, he can go chill in my stronghold. Truth be told I havnt paid much attention to it since i repaired the road but now i may visit to see how korgrak settles in, maybe see if i can take him dragon hunting with me Also ive figured out that unless engaged mobs always target the target with the least resistance to whatever they are gonna attack with so i dont really need to corner hug anymore once i getmy wurms out coz they never attack me anyway
  13. Yeah, this is one of the most OP combos likely. Can do some church choir RP as well :D. yea, im still stuck on the forge knights tbh. so much aoe, cc, and regen.... its so stupid how the ai gets unlimited spells, i mean i atm in my practice run im getting such varibale results depending on how much they spam their heals
  14. Oh i havnt even bothered to go back to the temple, it didnt have anything i wanted in it, im confident i could have taken it as soon as i got my wurms, they would easily absorb the damage and stuns and phantoms have terrible defenses anyway so i could just attack from range, plus they are vulnerable to fire dmg. Im absolutely stuck on the main story line, i just dont know how i can deal with the forge knights
  15. PS if you want cheese I maintain there is nothing more cheesy than 5 chanters 1 priest. Stun lock with 5 phantoms, create a wall of wurms that will block anything from reaching you, perma charm people with enough wisps (each gets one charm, 2x5=10 charms per 16 seconds) 10 ogres=your enemy will never stand up 5 drakes=anything in the aoe dies, this isnt even considering the chants you can run, with 5 chanters you can run dedicated chants per chanter, one fear chanter, one buff chanter, one speed chanter (your entire group is now able to kite almost anything) one ranged speed chanter etc etc.
  16. if you want tanks that are more active roll a couple of moonlike monks for your front line. Give them the heaviest armour you can and spam torents reach (helps if you hotkey it) at level 5 my moonlike monk (solo run) has about 20-30 wounds per battle before he dies, and thats without any external healing id then get a couple of barbs with reach weaponds to gve you some constant aoe dps in your second row and a druid and a priest in your last row for heals, buffs and aoe spells
  17. In fact near the end of the fight i switched to my bow and turned off catious attacks so that they would miss less often, lol i wanted to be hit coz retaliation hits them harder than I do meant to edit my previous post oops
  18. as far as soloing pursic goes i found it difficult earlier so left it till now, its actually remarkably easy if you focus him down asap by surrounding him with shades Then if you have any kind of retaliation and high enough deflection and DR the mercenaries are easy- i have 97 deflection pretty much everything misses or grazes me, and im wearing an enchanted sanguine plate
  19. So minor tip: When facing a group of enemies that has casters/ranged enemies if you cast a figurine/summon to attack the squishies the melee mobs will peel off you to try to help, they dont usually arrive in time because a flanked spellcasted falls pretty dam fast and its a really good way to get some breathing room if they surround you The casters will also prioritise the melee mobs attacking them so its a good way to get them to burn their spells even if they dont die.
  20. This is especially annoying in solo play where your single party member charges forward from the nice safe protected corner/doorway he was fighting in to be instantly surrounded by 3/4 mobs I just wanna shout at him "YOU ****ING IDIOT DO YOU HAVE A DEATHWISH???"
  21. i guess, ive just played chanter enough that i know all my ranges anyway, at least at min int, normal int and max int. expert also turns off maiming and doesnt allow to to see conversation metadata, both of those things arent particularly important in a solo run though. If im honest msot of the time i forget i have expert mode on, its only when i wanna see the range of an ability i havnt used before that i remember why i cant
  22. Given how important positioning is on PoTD i really think there aught to be a stand here and do not move button. It is soooo annoyin when i have fund a really nive chokepoint then an enemy dies and my braindead tank thinks SCREW THIS CHAAARGE. he then charges forwards and instead of fighting the enemy one at a time he ends up getting surrounded andoften dies. Currently i have to autopause whenever an enemy dies and make sure that my braindead melee characters dont do anything stupid. I mean I am playing with autoattack on but it would be nice to seperate 'standing there getting hit and not attacking back' from 'hold this position'.
  23. Triple Crown is Path of the Damned, Expert, Trial of Iron. Triple Crown Solo is a separate achievement. oh lol i guess expert does make itmarginally harder too, i hate not seeing the range of my own spells
  24. Ok so I am uterly at a loss as to beating the rogue forge knights at my current level so i think I am gona hve to go side questing
  25. Im not quite sure i understand, triple crown I thought the three crowns were solo, PoTD and ironman???
