  1. But then its a symptom of a greater problem. We want a greater challenge out of the game but dont want to play a class that feels gimped, and while i consider myself a min-maxer I would also say that even with totally random stats the game is too easy. I guess my problem might be that i came here from the paradox games series which were RP heavy but also very big on the strategy side of things. This game is hevay on the RP but the strategy is abysmal. I guess you could say its my fault for playing the wrong game but i think that a bit more strategy really wouldnt have hurt this game.
  2. Not if they miss Also from my experience they require a LOT of strategy in solo play because they are so squishy, yea you can blast everything to hell if you can get off all your spells but you wont live long enough to do so if you just stand there
  3. You might wanna pm @iamknownastherat, he was commenting in my solo PoTD tips (not exploits) thread and he was doing wizard, think he was just short of act 3. I can answer any general questions but IMO wizards arnt the best class to do this, their base stats are garbage so you are gonna be relying quite heavily on your spells hitting. Im a bit biased but might i suggest the chanter instead, they have better base stats and get a smaller range of spells but can cast them as many times as they like. . In terms of EXP gain if you look at the numbers pretty much 99% of your exp comes from quests, I mean people always say max out mechanics for the trap exp but that exp is insignificant compared to quests, also you get much more exp from main story quests generally. You should know that a lot of your fights are going to come down to dice rolls, wizards have good burst and CC but if they miss you are totally screwed most fights. I got as far as level 4 with my battle mage before I decided he wasnt worth it. In a party your wizard can get away with garbage tier stats but in solo play low deflection means you will get shredded if you get hit. Anyway its always good to see another soloer so give it a try , jsut be aware that solo play is quite different than party play in that certain things become far more deadly (eg traps are often a game over screen)
  4. No it isnt. You can also cheese ai pathing and kill in from range without getting hit once by it. Perma stunning/interrupting/petrifying Adrogans disagree with you. If you pretend you are going to help the dragon, then run to the treasury the dragon and the xuatrips follow you but the adragans dont. The xuatrip skirmishers are ranged and the passage to the treasury is narrow, if you make the skirmishers follow you in the middle of the passage they block the dragon from attacking you because its large character model cant squeeze past the archers model. This is how I soloed the dragon with my chanter on PoTD. Note you still have to kill the adragans afterwards for the encounter to end but you can pull them individually and they arent so tough by themselves if you burst them down.
  5. Even x1 damage would be well then, that's that. 1x damage would be fine, it would still guarantee crits but would make those crits one shot you. Like ive said the issue is that it is a long disable, a huge debuff and is so difficult to dodge. I think you can deal with one or two of those things but all three make this spell a gamebreaker.
  6. Its terrible from a RP perspective as well. My end screen said that it was the biggest most secure etc fortress in the land but it had exactly 8 people in it (the hirelings).
  7. Any other restrictions/specifications? Gonna take this run much more slowly, i do have other things i need to do this easter but ill post updates on my progess as it goes Only that she's super protective of Aloth I wasnt planning on playign with aloth in the party
  8. Alright made all four Not much range going on so i might make my monk into a ranger in fights that are in small rooms. Im having to give my monk other weapons until i find some implements

  10. I killed the adra dragon solo on trial of iron and most of the damage came from fire scrolls so I gotta say my opinion of them is quite high
  11. It crops up more in higher difficulties and near the end of end endless paths. I guess its their way of making it 'harder'
  12. Chanter auto attack is the same as any other average accuracy class auto attack and as Eos mentioned i'll pick up ranged combat talents (with specific weapon specialisations) and i can go; 16 in each might, dex and intel.........and; 10 in each cons, perc and res ........ (or may be 8 in perc and res; and go 18 in might and intel).......... sounds promising..... I would argue that what makes chanters broken is that they can maintain high DPS while bein as tanky as possible. My 137 deflection chanter was able to maintain a DPS of 7 damage per second+autoattacks+scrolls whatever just by standing there chanting the dragon chant. This damage is AOE so skyrockets when the chanter is surrounded and can further skyrocket if you chant cycle (switch between two dragon chants (the DOT normally hits every 2 seconds but if you switch between two chants you can apply a new DOT and because it hits once when it applies and you can apply it much faster than every 2 seconds you damage goes up my a huge amount. Not to mention drakes/ogres/ice spikes, the most useful of which i think is ice spikes as long as you run out of rangeof the rest of your party as the damage is huge and his allies and enemies. What melee style are you using? two handed, dual wield or sword shield? Hatchet and shield, with all my talents aside from scion of flame in teh defensive tree. My DPS pre level 9 was nothing but as soon as i got the level 9 chant i just because super OP, like walk into a room and everyone dies OP I hope its not broken.......but anyway i'll take a look into this.. In fairness it wasa very specialised build that i planned 9 levels ahead of time, i knew that Chants are unaffected by recover times or dexterity and that the dragon chant had a really high damage so i built by entire buuld around the the idea that all i needed to do was survive long enough to chant away their hp

  14. My orlan had 18 might, 15 con, with bears fortitude was unable to dodge petrify even if they rolled a ****ty low number. Its the combination of it being hard to dodge, having a long duration and making you die in 1-3 hits that makes it broken

  17. I hate on them because nothing in the game tells me they are not important to the plot. The first few backers I met, I read their stories thinking I might need to know this sometime. Then I noticed just how many backers there were and I was like, fk it. I'm not sure if the loading screen tip was there at launch or got patched in, but it's inadequate either way, because it still doesn't tell me they're not plot relevant. Furthermore, even if it did, how long before I saw that message? It might not appear, I might tab out... I agree they're great flavor (unlike many uninspired epitaphs, saw one with an XD and decided never to look at them again) but it needs to be clear when I click the first one that their stories are optional reads. Perhaps a mesage should appear the first time a player clicks on one. This would certainly reduce the griefing. I read about 3 before i realised they were totally insignificant.
  18. It is broken OP, it targets forttude which most mobs have lower stats in and espesically with a full party if you land petrify it makes even the worst fight easy. I might there is a reason that most of the 'strategy' guides for high level bosses all include trying to land petrify and thats because its like turning easy mode on
  19. I think thats part of the issue. Its a pretty long disable, I mean stone isnt exactly weaker than flesh is it? So why do you both get disabled for ages AND get turned into a one hit wonder
  20. Soooo, having just finished my first play-through on triple crown solo ive decided to make it a lot easier and play with a group of 4. So what i thought would be fun would be a crowd sourced party. The party is now made and i will update this thread with interesting fights/encounters and will take any suggestions in terms of challenges or anything else (Eg fighting raedric without armor or whatever). Anything to spice up my second run. Mercy the Deathlike kind wayfarer: Ivy the Tanky Druid: Iselmyr the Kith Slayer: Thunder whose fists strike like lightning:
  21. Yea well now ive done it im never playing trial of iron again. There are too many save or die situations that i had to spend ages figuring out my way around and tbh having two save games running made it twice as tedious. Like, i like a challenge but a lot of them you just had to whip out figurines to absorb the petrify/paralyse and burst down fast enough. Also the adra dragon was in no way worth killing, i mean maybe in a group it wouldnt be such a game over situation.
