  1. Yea that has been my experience, the issue as i see is it that the helm would have to do a LOT more to be as valuable as the heals yu get as in my experience the heals double your effectince endurance per fight, doubling the number of htis you can take before you go down. a couple of points in per and res dont have such a large impact even if the charm is useful is some situations
  2. I havnt tried it but would a chant that combines the frost chant with the fire chant work? or the fire and the speed? my thinking is that if you could slow and damage people following you you could have a fun time running around people in circles You could, but I think it's ultimately pointless. One thing that did occur to me was to get the fire AoE phrase, sit the Chanter in a doorway then have a Priest cast withdraw on them. IF you could throw out big dps with no risk of being auto attacked that would be very valuable on solo runs, as it is you can stack speed and run circles around people until your summon is up
  3. There it is lol, still since that thread I have yet to find any helms worth it, especially when late game buffs etc give you more bonuses. I guess what Im asking is has anyone found a helm powerful enough even in the late game to justify not taking moonlike for the immense heals?
  4. Are there any helms in game that make it worth NOT going godlike? ive seen a similar discussion before but the focus there was on the godlike powers. TBH it seems that either the godlike are all going to have to get nerfed (not nature obviously) or the are going to have to release some helms that make it worth it to NOT go godlike. I mean Im having to force myself to pick other races now coz i always roll moon or fire and i like their abilities so i dont really want to see them nerfed, but at no point in my playthrough have i seen a helm and been like 'dam i wish i didnt get 3 free heals per battle or aoe fire damage and free damage reduction'. Even the helm that lets you charm an enemy is a bit meh in comparison and you cant even get that till the second act.

  6. that would fly in the face of the obvious design decision to make them more powerful chants longer, its a strategic choice, one of the few in the game. Its also why you get multiple chants and you can create your own custom chants, chants are so flexible its insane and honestly having now tested some of the high level invocations and chants it would be stupid if there wasnt some draw back to using them. I agree the mechanism could use some tweaking but given the power of summons it would be so dumb to be able to cast a drake every 20 seconds and be able to chant the fire aoe AND to be wearing full plate while doing it AND to be auto attacking at the same time. It would make chanters walking death machines that can tank and increase the health pool of the party infinitely with a never ending supply of drakes (unles your enemy can kill it in less than 20 seconds you can always refresh it. It is perfectly acceptable to fly in the face of bad design decision. I am sure the people who designed it have every good intention, but that does not mean their choices are good choices by default. One of the biggest issues for chanters is contributing an invocation to a fight, because even on the hardest difficulty fights do not often last very long. As someone who has voiced concerns about the game not being difficult enough even on PotD, I am certain you understand. Ensuring that you gain a resource at 4 second intervals while chanting would go a long way to making the Chanter play smoother. The summons are certainly going to be nerfed as is. You can count on it. If summons werent as game breaking as they are then i totally agree, one of several things could change for a 4 second rule to make any sense 1) Summons become less powerful 2) Have an upper limit cap on how many summons you can have per battle, the main problem with summons as I see it is that they are an INFINITE source of health for any battle meaning that unless te enemy can kill them faster than you can summon you have a never ending source of damage mitigaton, another way to solve this would be making subsequent summons progressively less powerful, after all if your phantom has died five times surely it should not come back with 50 HP a sixth time 3) have a compensatory mechanism for summon power, monks get infinite wounds only when they are taking damage making wounds a limited and sometimes risky resource, ciphers make up for focus by being much more squishy than other classes and cant just hide behind plate armor and a big shield and stay as effective for DPS, chants only cost time meaning that you can keep fighting forever if you have enough patience

  8. Don't think that's possible with level 3 barbarian. You take 40-50 or more slash damage crits from a single one of them (let alone 3), through 9 slash DR. Did you get the platemail from the backer NPC? Nope, I've been trying to avoid murdering NPCs to see if there's any way around it. I'll buy some platemail if the blacksmith has it and see if that makes any difference as a test. The backer npc has the heaviest armour you will encounter for quite a while
  9. I can quite reliably kill the bear but thats probably because moonlike have essentially double the HP of other race (the combined heals add up to something like 100% of your health depending on your levels of might and con. Moonlike are so good that when i tried a wild orlan monk I was genuinely surprised how much faster i died lol.
  10. Not yet no i felt like the difficulty was too easy and at this point im just starting to get bored Jesus Christ. Stop trying to solo the game and beat the damn thing first. Im as far into the game solo as i am in my group (obviously avoiding encounters that just arent soloable

  12. My first play through i was on hard and I was absolutely destroying anything I came up against so I switched to PoTD where I tried rping 4 godlike chanters but found that too easy so I tried a few custom builds until i realised that really no matter what I chose the fights were never a challenge. Maybe Im not being fair as I havnt yet reached act three but i dont want to be 2/3s through a game before it becomes a challenge. So i thought i would try a solo run and what is annoying is that it isnt challenging because it requires skill so much as it requires luck and exploits. I mean I could keep adjusting until the difficulty is right but at some point ive gotta think its an issue with the game and not just individual difficulty levels. Yea, ive tried to avoid exploits but there are just some things that are impossible. Also ive had a lot of frustration with hidden mechanics and mislabelling. For example I absolutely hate that attack speed is hidden. Yeah, but a full party on easy/hard is not really challenging at all. And its not like the story "changes" once you beat the game.. Despite this i feel like the game deserves at least me to finish it so at some point im gonna rush through my PoTD trial of iron chanter run, ive remade my party about 10 times but ive now settled on 5 chanters one druid, tbh the druid barely does anything apart from throw out emergency heals. I just find it really funny how easy the game is with my build. I mean i basically wait till my summons are up then switch to ranged, the reason i switch to ranged is because usually my summons swarm them, i cant even imagine how much dps 15 wurms will do, especially given i wont have to worry about melee attacks not being in range
  13. thats a shame, that could have worked really well. What class would you recommend as far as the most fun? I mean im not stuck on my monk run but 1) Its a bit boring just spamming torments reach 24/7 2) I wanna try for triple crown 3) I feel like using moon godlike is unfair given how much more powerful it is than any other racial. I am curious about barbarians but i feel like it would be as boring Im considering cipher or druid as both have a large range of abilities, i dunno why im bored tbh it may be the game in general ive probably played too much in the last week lol.
  14. My build: http://abload.de/img/barbariankqqpw.png I have 2443 gold about 1.5 hours in with this at level 3. And I'm not having problems with the 1v1 shadow fights in the temple necessarily (there's one section where 2-3 shadows will pull simultaneously, and one of them sometimes randomly blocks the path in and out, but I think that can be manipulated by going up and down the stairs before running the whole floor). I'm having problems with the end fight with the stunlock phantom specifically, since I don't have the figurine. You have to try to get to the switch and use the doorway into the room where the priests' remains are. It's likely it will involve taking a disengagement attack or two. After that it's down to what food, alcohol, and potions/scrolls you have acquired. Can you stack chanter summons with figurine summons?
  15. so fast runner stacks with the speed chant confirmed, ie you can outrun anyone, run around in circles for 12 secons, win
  16. Ummmm.... u srs??? its obviously a balance thing, you should run the less powerful chants until you have a summon up then switch to the more potent ones. If you could summon a drake in 20 seconds thats easily worth having less good buffs, i see no reason to give the chanter both a super powerful summon and super powerful chants. Im not sure how they would solve for higher levels but i think that its about a choice, and i agree its an inherent flaw in their design, fact is that summons are so powerful that there has to be some high cost associated with them, the issue is that tying this high cost to time is a terrible cost mechanism, it doesnt stop a chanter heavy team kiting for 60 seconds then casting 6 dragon kings or whatever the next level of summons will be so the cost is still essentially 'free' from a resource point of view, the only thing it costs the player is patience and frustration. maybe have a blood magic type mechanic that speeds it up? I mean compare the phrases resource to the wound resource, monk spells are averagely powerful and spammable if you have lots of wounds but the you have a limited number of wounds per battle, phrases power very powerful spells and are unlimited per encounter so the only thing they have done to balance them is increase the times involved. I think a neat way to do it would be to add a haste mechanic, you could sacrifise a percentage of you movement speed and defences to speed up your chants, this would allow the addition of more powerful spells at the cost of survivability rather than patience, it would mean you cant just kite or tank until your summon is available you would have to protect your chanter while they build up phrases. This would make your chanter weak and given the way mobs beeline for your most fragile character this would be a nice trade off.
  17. Thats not really as useful as you might think it is unless you are usig that speed to fire arrows or something, The way ive built my monk he does insane dps has accuracy and like 140% attack speed or something crazy like that, means he interupts a fair few abilities as well given his higher than average interupt rating, even in slow mode his fists are a blur i mean running fast is useful but eventually ur gonna have to fight and movement speed doesnt help you in a flat out fight oops double post

  19. nice build but as others have said ciphers were always going to be more powerful than any other class by miles, its like how moon godlike is by far and away the best race to place as
  20. These are good tips, and I did something similar with stealth 5 rogue...except I used the figurine (managed to farm barely 5000 gold) to get past the Caed Nua entrance hall. I haven't found a way to hit level 4 with any character, or reliably kill Maerwald, or win any early fights (Ranga's quest, wolves, spiders, etc.) with a rogue. Moonlike monks have a good mix of survivability and dps, i kill maewald quite easily, im just waiting on my aoe stun before I can take on larger groups
  21. That would be a great idea actually, having unlimted lives is way too easy.
  22. kill the people guarding the gentlemans club in the brothel, they drop exceptional quailty items (if you try opening the door you can kill tem rep free) that sell for a fair bit
  23. Im not saying you should but if its a challenge you are after solo PoTD is so challenging we have a whole thread full of min maxers and the first like 6 pages is just us trying to get past act one lol
